Hey Laura, i´m from germany and i just learned so much things from your videos! I´ve never seen things like buttercream in a bakery store but i really would like to make some for my mom´s birthday. now i´ve seen you allways use vanilla extract in in your buttercream, in your cupcakes (of muffins? where is the difference?) and i wanted to know if i have to put it in because we use just small bottels, and i think thats too little. can you help me? thank you
@dienade: You'll have to go to her site (see the description underneath this video). The recipe and the measurements per ingredient is there -- you'll have to use her site's "Search" feature to get to it. Just remember the name of this particular recipe ("Buttercream Frosting").
For those of you who are wondering no you can't use granulated sugar. And if it's yellowish it's probably because you added too much vanilla extract. If it tastes good then you can still use it unless you're trying to achieve a white buttercream. Most people color buttercream anyway.
I have ur app on both iPad and iPhone and this recipe isn't on there. Can you please make sure all of your recipes on are there. It makes it so much easier to follow your instructions :) thanks!! Oh and u rock btw hah
I love your cooking guides and I recently made some cream puffs after watching your video. Everyone at home loves it. I need a favor from you....can you show me how to make a chantilly cream, please?
@thelaurenator3008 hi i made dm fr my guests and they loved it bt the butter cream was a bit watery and crispy too,and yes i added icing sugar and unsalted butter
@BieberFever2311 yes, because you can control the amount of salt you put in. but any good dessert recipe has a pinch of salt in it to balance out the flavours, so using salted is just fine (in my opinion). i always use it anyway and its inexpensive :) x
@thelaurenator3008 hi i made dm fr my guests and they loved it bt the butter cream was a bit watery and crispy too,and yes i added icing sugar and unsalted butter

I HAD A PROBLEM WHEN I DID MY FROSTING=[ I FOLLOWED THESE STEPS WHAT DID I DO WRONG? IT LOOKS LIKE THE SUGAR DIDNT BLEND IN GOOD HELP! IT LOOKS WEIRD=[
Hi I was just wondering if your not a big fan of super sweet, could you add less sugar and still use it for decorating or would taking away some sugar completely ruin the texture? Thx so much! :)
@Mikyajful Sorry Miss EXPERT... but i hope next time you can comment much more kindly...nobody is perfect you know? people here are helping each other not to take a look at their mistakes. If you are a gourmet chef and want to teach me, then maybe you can use much more kind words, it's kinda' offending to say, "wrong", "never", "no" it's negative in my opinion.
Do you have a recipe for a lighter frosting? I've had some cupcakes recently that had a really light frosting (almost as light as whipped cream) and the frosting was not nearly as sweet as buttercream frosting. They were the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. Buttercream frosting is just too sweet IMO. Thanks for the recipe anyway!
wasn't it grainy? i tried making buttercream once but it was grainy and you could feel the confectioners sugar in your mouth not nice. how do i get it non grainy?
@blarrajay are you positive you used confectioner sugar and not granulated? Confectioner is totally smooth powder. Sounds like you used granulated sugar....I made that mistake once before.
Buttercream is very very sweet, the reason buttercream is so popular and usually found on top of cakes and cupcakes is because of the consistency. It's mainly used to decorate because it holds together well and it won’t run off the cake and the ingredient that gives that texture is quite a bit of confectioner sugar, so yes it is a very sweet frosting. This video has been highly requested and i figured i would show you how to do it.
Laura. Could we substitute Maragine for the Butter? And whenever I try to make Buttercream frosting, it is so liquidy. I don't want to add anymore sugar because I'm afraid it'll be too sweet. Any solutions? thanks. -3
@LuzPerezTV yes there are different types of butter cream i think there are 5 different types and the culinary name are Swiss, french, italian. simple, and creme anglaise. the frosting you described i have no idea what that is though it sound like it just might thin down whipped cream. i hope that helped you
@LuzPerezTV I know what you are talking about it is good I bought some from publix because i was to lazy and running out of time to make it myself because i didnot take my butter out of the frige.
can u make a episode on peanut butter balls i use to eat 3 each year at my elem. skool bt u know how alot of people r alergic to peanut butter we never cam really eat n am i dying to know
@xibelieveinme I would assume that you could use soy, almond, or even rice milk. THey all have more or less the same properties as regular milk, and are healthier.
Laura, your recipes are DELICIOUS! Really! So don't get this the wrong way but, this frosting (along with the one for the cupcakes) is so crazy sweet, I get headaches from only tasting it :-s Do you also have other recipes with less sugar?

@lilypana Room temperature okay. Get yourself a cake holder at Target or Macys. It helps keep the cakes moist.
