lightning is faster but ice is easier. Ice will also save you alot of mesos (via the unuse of potions) but lightning means you will get hit more. Usually ice is maxed first (proven to be more effective in hybrid builds)

Dmg. my good man. Lightning has disgustingly low dmg. But speaking strictly in 2nd job skills. Ice on the other hand has fairly decent dmg. and freezes reducing the use of pots.
