Iolanta is a glorious opera and Netrebko has performed a concert version recently; Really it should be staged and taped for commercial DVD release; if reams of baroque opera currently being committed to tape surely Iolanta deserves the same--especially with Anna
I love this piece. Anna's performance is superb. While Rolando would not pass as a Russian, amongst non-native singers of Russian, he is remarkably good. I cannot recall, offhand, a non-Russian who sings Russian this well.
They are both great. A very moving performance. Bravo!

@Mekertitch Oh,perhaps you must be aware of Russian operas something, but you have no idea of Russian language and her Russian soul of course ..Yes,mr.Villazon was a bit sharp and incorrect in his Russian libretto but he was Anna's stage partner and he did his best at least ,he certainly was not imbecile.I wonder how person like you can discuss human's dignity when calling an artist like imbecile?
It sounds like Anna and the concert master/mistress tuned up on different notes in this one. Why, I wonder? Too few rehearsals? Or does she warm up back stage and then can't adjust to the orchestra because she's nervous? Or is the concert master not reliable? Rolando is sometimes sharp, but when he's on, he's really ON.
Such nasty comments in spanish about these two wonderful artists are shameful, so I write this opinion in English. Both of them are wonderful. She is goodlooking as a soprano. Most sopranos are quite ugly, for example Joan Sutherland and Brigitte Nilssen - they look like witches from the swamp.....
Who said Opera fans don't listen to pop music? We also love the Beatles and R&B/ Soul musicians but we hate shallow and depthless Netrebko and Villazon who sing with unstable pitch. Well, I'm not buying this publicity stunt. I would only like Netrebko if I have low taste in Music.
I wouldn't be so quick on that. There are many Russian sopranos who have more clarity and luster in singing than Netrebko. Even Barbara Hendricks could sing Rachmaninov songs.
Nertebko haters do not care about the quality of her performances. They trash everything of hers under condition of anonymity. The good thing is that everyone already knows their names (thrugman30, esradesso etc) and the longer they do that the more pathetic they look. Anna is going GREAT and her voice has doubled in the last couple of years. So, respond to their insulting comments, when you can, and haters would not feel in a safe heaven (like Taliban before 2001).
Hello people, please be aware that thugman30 is a dangerous maniac who hates women in general and Netrebko in particular and has made a hobby of posting hateful and insulting messages (or messages with dirty and explicit sexual contents) on her pages. Please advise what can be done about that. Thank you.
eff you. don't be e general netrebko hater who doesn't even watch the video and puts something mean. EVERYONE (meaning people in the opera world who matter) says she interprets russian repertoire perfectly and always has.
Yes, but Piotr Beczala will and he's also superb. Let's hope that Rolando can strengthen his voice so he can sing with the strength and sweetness he's capable of.
I love them both ! They are a fantastique couple. Rolando's russian sounds sooo good ! (And his german is fantastic, too ! I know what I'm talking about I am German ^^)
Dear...even before his voice was damaged, he still sounded throaty, monochromatic, and hooted. His upper registry was always weak. And I have never seen any ability for coloratura (I'll give him a pass on that one...). The voice is not elegant, and the singing has major flaws.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He sounds throaty, monochromatic, and strained/pushed (pick one -LoL). His upper register is barely there. No signs of a good squillo not vibrato. Yet he tries singing every aria that comes his way. Very sad. Very sad indeed.
This was YEAR AGO. Everybody knows that he was ill and NOW he is fully recovered. Why you are spending your observer's gifts on what is NOT RELEVANT today..Listen "Luisa Miller" in the concert from Köln..
What a lovely duet. Netrebko was born to sing Jolanta!

I don't like her in short hair.

What's so beautiful about this? This is not musical compared to her Ruslan and Lyudmila. This sucks and very shrill singing.
thugman30 2 years ago
and that was in 1995, look how different her singing then. Now all she cares about is the money.

Unfortunaly Beczala does not have any stage presence and as an actor he is zero.

A pity they won't sing it together at Baden-Baden!,it is so beautiful !

ChristinaLuiseNikita 3 years ago 6
Yes, his russian is surprisingly good considering that he doesn't speak it, but he does work very hard on pronunciation.

Dear...even before his voice was damaged, he still sounded throaty, monochromatic, and hooted. His upper registry was always weak. And I have never seen any ability for coloratura (I'll give him a pass on that one...). The voice is not elegant, and the singing has major flaws.

He sounds throaty, monochromatic, and strained/pushed (pick one -LoL). His upper register is barely there. No signs of a good squillo not vibrato. Yet he tries singing every aria that comes his way. Very sad. Very sad indeed.
TheInquisitive4Ever 3 years ago
This was YEAR AGO. Everybody knows that he was ill and NOW he is fully recovered. Why you are spending your observer's gifts on what is NOT RELEVANT today..Listen "Luisa Miller" in the concert from Köln..
