a serious question here.was miming allowed from the start at TOTP....if not, when was it allowed, lol. just seen a clip of alan price on the 1976 show dont know wat month, and it wasnt even a hit . anyway can someone please answer my Q ...tyvm
@Wolfington....Actually they are playing live here...you can tell just from thie vocal and bass tracks. I played the crap out of my copy of this single, i know it backwards and forwards.
@DaronWoodward Bands didn't play live on TOTP in 1980. They would usually re-record the track to comply with Musician Union rules and then mime to it - especially apt as the musicians here weren't playing on the original record. If they're playing live, then what are the guitars plugged into? Thin air? Where's the mics for the brass section?
So actually, they're not playing live here. I am not a loony - I just know my shit.
On 17 July 2010 there will be a gathering in Birmingham to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of 'Searching for the young soul rebels'.
Original band members will be present as will friends and associates of that time, live music, images and spoken word are all planned to make this event extra special and a fitting celebration of arguably one of the greatest debut album's of all time.

Note the totally different style and line up here compared to the band who did 'Come on Eileen' a couple of years later..
