One of my favorite songs back in the day. Never knew Marvin Gaye wrote it but it does not surprise me. In my opinion, he was one of the greatest singers of all time.
I was just graduating from high school, I had this serious crush on a girl I met in a summer job program....I used to try to sing this song to her...she loved it, guess it didn't sound too bad...Thanks for the memories.
I'm 56 and I still remember when this song came out and how much my mother played it(I would sneak and play it when she and my Daddy would go out)!. What great simple love songs. No cursing, or demeaning comments about women, just innocence love. I miss this kind of music. I refuse to listen to most of today's love ballads.
I'm 16 y/o and I know I wasn't around when this kind of music was around but growing up my mom would always listen to this music so I feel like I did and this is real music when artist never said things to offend women or say racist things unlike todays singers. Such a shame. Where did the good music go?
These guy's and the "DELLS"!.. Man. They knew how to express it. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish between them. I'll take ANYTHING by and from them. Classic songs...Classic groups.
Notice how you can understand everyword of the older music. They sing for 10 minutes now days, and im lucky if I can understand 5 words in the whole damn song. Its like many celebritys say, its just pure noise comming out of the radio now.
@ThickRthanaSNICKER ha ha....wish they made music like this still and ladies like your granny. Makes me a little sad to think of the future in that sense.
Hey, PatrioticPirate, the remake was done by After 7 and it is a classic too. Those brothers could sing anyway, especially with the two alternating leads (Babyface's brothers). They put a "natural high" twist on it at the end. Check it out here on youtube. They did the song justice, with soul. But his here is a true classic---Marvin Gaye was the man. Slow dragging to the blue light in the basement.
This song is a true classic. Every time I hear it brings me back to a very special time in my life. Oh those memories and BABY I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE FOR REAL.
This song is timeless! I'm grateful for everyone who listens to it and knows what real music was and should continue to be. Listen to the voice. I'm 51 years old and I danced many a 500 to this. LOL
@speedygonzalez59 I know, right? I'm 57 and I remember oh so well....dancing to this....very, very slow...lol....our music will be here forever! gotta love it!!

How I love this song..!!!! It takes me back to '69 when my then boyfriend, who was over in Vietnam, had it playing in the background as he was talking softly. He started realizing what a great song it was and he turned up the volume and said, "Wow, that song is fine," and then he let it play out, as if to dedicate it to me. How romantic that was. This song always has a special place in my heart and whenever I hear it, I think of that young Marine and how crazy I was about him....
@lynda000 That's sweet of you to ask... We wrote to each other and sent tapes back and forth the whole time he was in Vietnam. I was waiting for him at the airport when he came home, along with his family and we had a couple of special dates but I could see that he needed to heal from what he'd been through. Unfortunately, I was in college and we kind of drifted apart. I still have his tapes, believe it or not, and I have the most special memories of that time in our lives...I hope he's happy
