I look at Rock and even Austin as actors who used to be wrestlers, not wrestlers who became actors, because although they cared for wrestling. It wasn't all they had, it wasn't at the core of their soul like it was for Bret and Mick and Hogan. And in my opinion he didn't walk those extra miles and really go out of his way to be an all time great.
Although Rock does have passion for wrestling, in my eyes he's not a wrestler like Edge, Bret Hart, or Hogan. Mick, HBK, and Bret all did a little acting on the side but didn't stop WWE. To those names, wrestling was everything to them, they had nothing else. And when their bodies just couldn't take it anymore, they retired. Rock was at the prime of his physical condition, if he went on a couple more years, people would like and respect him even more and he would become an even better wrestler.

Sure he reached the apex of his career, and sure he jobbed occasionally to people, but he did little to help other people rise to the top. Shawn Michaels reached the top of his career, but he stayed around for a long time to help names like Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Diesel, and Steve Austin all rise to the top.

It wasn't all they had, it wasn't at the core of their soul like it was for Bret and Mick and Hogan. Although Rock does have passion for wrestling, in my eyes he's not a wrestler like Edge, Bret Hart, or Hogan. Mick, HBK, and Bret all did a little acting on the side but didn't stop WWE. To those names, wrestling was everything to them, they had nothing else. And when their bodies just couldn't take it anymore, they retired. Rock was at the prime of his physical condition, if he went on a couple more years, people would like and respect him even more and he would become an even better wrestler.

He was literally just as good in the ring as HBK & Jericho. Only he didin't do that many 'high flying' moves. And to be quite honest, no one could really out shine Rock on the mic. The only ones that come close are Austin & Piper IMO. And judging by the promos Rock & Jericho had together, Rock was superior on the mic.

Once again, @guardianshaven wrestlers don't have to cripple themselves to be successful. I think what @shaid1111, was trying to get across, was that Rock had more to give to the business. Sure he reached the apex of his career, and sure he jobbed occasionally to people, but he did little to help other people rise to the top. Shawn Michaels reached the top of his career, but he stayed around for a long time to help names like Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Diesel, and Steve Austin all rise to the top.

Brock Lesnar at Summerslam 2002 stands out as a big one, as does the Hurricane in 2003, as does Mick Foley in the highest rated RAW match ever in Dec. 1998, as does Goldberg in 2003, as does Kurt Angle in 2000, as does Chris Jericho in 2001, another big name (without the Rock agreeing to put him over, Jericho probably would have languished for a while.)

@guardianshaven Bret Hart was called the excellence of execution . he was more of a technical wrestler. never injured anyone. His career was ended with the infamous screw job led by vince hhh and hbk in wwf. all these fellas said sorry to bret. His arrival on Jan 4th after like a decade made TNA hulk's comeback ratings below par he helped wwe at that time which could have been a turning point. We all have the wrestlers we like so no harm :)
