Never let garage staff drive your car - insist on a copy of their driving licence and insurance certificate. I know of two car owners prosecuted for permitting a car to be driven without insurance because the person from the garage was part-time and not covered by company insurance. The other had been banned and didn't tell anyone but had a minor bump, so the owner was also prosecuted! insist on documents first...

The gear box is a very minor niggle and applies to most automatics anyway if it was a manual would it be a 100% good car thought?

The Skoda Superb is like a rover P5 or P6 in someways classy good and great value, so is like middles class posh, an would not look out of place parked next car cost twice as much, but not to flashy that it would not look out of place in the middle class close either. Were as in the 70 the middle class had P5 & P6 and the volvo estate.

@boy638 no, its working fine. it just has a system that when you turn lef for example the left fog light turns on so that you have a better look on the road.

@boy638 No. The fog lamps turn on when you steer. If you steer left the left fog turns on and the same on the right. It's a cheaper way to iluminate corners instead of the Dinamic Lights equiped on BMW were the Xenon Lens turns in the same directions has the steering wheel...

Many VAG cars use this, VW Polo, every Skodas, Seat Ibiza...and every Mercedes-Benz. Try to notice that on the new ML or the latest CLK or even the E... :)

@micoaraujo In addition to the fog turn light at slow speed (<40km/h) the Skoda Superb also has "Dynanic Lights" like on BMW.

"Bi-Xenon headlamps feature outstanding illumination and, combined with the new AFS (Adaptive Frontlight System), multifunctionality. They automatically adapt the lighting to various travel situations, swivel into turnings, depending on the speed and actual driving conditions change the illuminated surface."

Doing a service in a day is normal. It would be more useful to know what the price was and what work was carried out for that price.

@desimunda116 Nah. It would go from "Superb" to only "Adequate". Not all manual drivers know how to get the best out of a car when not driven hard and those that do typically don't drive family cars. Skoda needs to spend a bit of time working on the shift points and/or making them more flexible to deal with varying driving situations. Varying sets of points for different speed ranges.

I don't like the design of the normal Superb, but this estate looks really good, and your long term test votes well for the car. Would be my first choise, if i were out to buy a car in that class.

@pissigubbe Skoda are still built in Skoda factories but like all VAG group products, they share engines and floorpans with VAG. Skoda just happen to be better built than VW's but for fractionally lower prices - in fact, the new Passat Estate was tested against the new Superb Estate - the Passat cost £10 yes, just a tenner more, and as always, the Skoda beat it hands down.The Passat is nice, it doesnt look as good or drive as well as a Superb estate tho.

Well, those who buy skodas are ppl who do not care about design, emotion etc.. Skoda is IMHO a reliable and economic car. It uses VW/Audi technology and that is the main point, no matter if the thechnologie is from the previous "season". The car might be cheaper than its brothers, but if its in the shop, you pay Audi/VW prices for maintainance.

@mrjost55 skodas position is not quite clear i think. Seat and Skoda are on an equal level. Skoda is family oriented, Seat is sportier. Audi is the premium and VW is somewhere in the middle. VW worked a lot on the Skoda image in recent years. In the 90ties Skodas were the cheap car with old VW tech.

@mrjost55 well yeah, but that was pretty much enything from eastern block with engine. And 1xx family and first Favorit were really old designs. Later Felicias were actually run by VW engines with newer breaks and electronics, and that was where change came it was somewhere about 1996. they suffered from poor design of trunk door, so it was getting a bit rusty at few spots (solved by plastic door). Other than that, great cheep family car.
