I bet Nikita Koloff was watching this match on his monitor or tv and was steaming with jealousy over Lex Luger. He knows his career went down and did his popularity when Luger beat Nikita Koloff for the United States Championship at the Great American Bash 1987.
Max McGyver looks like he just came from drinking beers from a bar by his stance in the match. Just looked like it the time I saw him compete on that show in 1987 and 1988.
0:14, case and point. Ladies loved Lex Luger and his attitude. They ended up loving him even more after he dominiated to win the U.S. title from the so called "Russian Nightmare" lol. Notice, ever since that match at the Bash 87, that Luger and Koloff had, Lugers popularity went up like crazy and Koloff's went down. That match at Great American Bash 87 totally made Luger into the superstar that he ended up being, and it brought down Nikita Koloff and his wrestling dignity among the fans.
@Edgehead10075 In the late 80s, Luger was at his peak as a worker. Don't let his late 90s WCW stint fool you. He was one of the best power wrestlers, especially as a heel. Catch his matches with Pillman and Steamboat.
@PhenomAJ or better yet check out his match with Nikita Koloff, where he TOTALLY dominated Nikita Koloff at that Great American Bash 1987 in the Steal Cage match for the US Title. I mean Luger was a heel in that match and Koloff a face, and most of the fans were clearly cheering for Luger!!
Look and listen to how all the beautiful ladies cheer for a man like Lex. Unlike Nikita Koloff, who was bald and was largely booed by the fans , especially the female fans. Thats the difference between a man and a douch, Luger has the muscles, the ladies the long thick hair, and Koloff was bald, and never got the chicks lol Luger was the real man between the two.
this goes to show how much more popular and better men with long hair are then bald men. Luger when he beat Nikita Koloff, not only totally dominated the match and was in total control of that match, but he, even as a heel, always got more cheers and pops from fans then Nikita Koloff did. After Nikita got creamed for the U.S. belt in 1987 at the Great American Bash, the fans booed Koloff out of the building.
Luger was awesome back then. He totally owned Nikita Koloff and in every match he had with Koloff, Luger always dominated and won. Luger had more fans and more ladies then Koloff did. Ladies, give me a thumbs up if you agree with what I said. Luger owns Koloff any time, and day.
Lex Luger owned Nikita Koloff in 1987. He also seemingly had a bigger pop ovasion in his matches with Kolof and Luger was the one that supposed to be the heel.
Lex was by far the grealent, greatest U.S" Champion of the 80s He was the most powerful, has the most talent. He was the most popular here then any U.S. Champion before him. He won hs first U.S. Championship easily and with little effort, and essentiallyh it was like he beat a jobber to win that title, it was so one sides, and then he became very dominant. Even here as a heel, he is being cheered more then the guy(s) who held the title before him.
The massively muscled heels who beat dudes up so easily are often crowd favorites. First off, everyone respects muscle power....especially when they totally dominate and punish weak dudes in the ring. Musclebound heroes are always respected and feared.
Watch # 66 through #69 and you get an idea of why Luger was the greatest man alive....he just dominated in the ring and showed off his awesome physique in front of millions of TV viewers. He was the perfect muscle bully, superior in every way.
Luger was awesome at this time...so strong, so tough, and so brutal. You have to respect any jobber for getting in the ring against him because Luger was going to beat the sh*t outta any jobber and make sure the jobber felt pain before the match was over.
Lex Luger and Scott Steiner were awesome. They got to show off their muscles on TV in front of millions of people, got to beat the crap out of their opponents, and they always seemed to get the hottest freaks.
I was kidding. My point was that Luger destroyed this jobber just like he destroyed and owned Nikita when he had his matches with him for the U.S title.
Not only is this Lex Lugar, United States Heavyweight Champion. This is Lex Lugar member of the 4 Horsemen. This match must have taken place in the fall of 1987 beofre Starcade 1987. Thanks for posting this footage.

Yeah...it states that in the description. I believe this was just before Halloween. Later shows on the tape this footage came from were advertising movies that were to be shown on Halloween night. Glad you enjoyed the vid. :)

Great submission finish, I always expect to see Luger whip out the torture rack, but knocking the jobber out cold with a bearhug is impressive.

He was a fine young wrestler, the Marvelous Mac McGiver, one of the most feared wrestlers of the 80's.

No it wasn't. Nikita Koloff wore a singlet and he was bald.
