@fenderstratocaster96 Not true... A couple of free downloads and you've got wake turbulence. I don't remember the file name off the top of my head but I could dig deep and find it. But really, never count out the thousands of freeware developers for FSX.
Every been on a plane caught in jet wash? I have, it's a lot more intense then that let me tell you. Half the passengers thought they were gonna die. After taking my connecting flight I will never fly again. And I fly 6-10 times a year on average, but no more. That flight I was on with friends who fly multiples times per month, both said it was the worst turbulence they've ever been on.
Another question, if I was to get new computer to run X Plane 9, how fast would I want it to be? I'm hoping it won't have to be the latest and greatest PC out there, as it will be used ONLY for the X-Plane simulator (no internet connection, no additional games, nothing else that would slow it down). But at the same time, I want it to be fast enough so that it will not lag when flying near a big city with a lot of scenery.
@GeneralSirDouglasMcA dont get x-plane 9, wait for x-plane 10, it will be much better, look it up on google, they will tell you what you will need for it, the minimums and the recommended etc
As a Flight Simulator fan, I'd never heard of X-plane until very recently. Does it have the same worldwide selection of airports as FS9/FSX? (Can I fly at my home-base airport, and are runway lengths/widths accurate)? Also, can it be used to practice VOR work and instrument training?
@GeneralSirDouglasMcA It does have all airports and it comes in 6 dual layer DVDs, it's excellent for IFR trainning. In fact, there are several FAA approved simulators that use X-Plane as their primary software. Go to x-plane dot com and check it out. ;)
@Transam941 my only complaints with x-plane is the way the scenery is, and the radio. in FSX the AI radio seemed more realistic to me, which is a HUGE part of flying.
and i know you can download addons for the scenery, it just seems to me that the rest of the world could be green/blue for all i care, as long as the actual airports and runways are dipicted right.
Yes i agree FSX Gives a very good balance and when it comes to flying in the virtual Airline buissness there really isn't an official program out on the market for flight traking in X plane.
too bad fsx is unrealistic, maybe a one third of realism is planted into the game, i wana get xplane and give it a ry but do u need to install the 60 gb scenery?
I often enjoy relaxing piano music while fighting turbulence in a hard-handling fighter plane. It helps me to plunge screaming into the terrain in an uncontrollable low-alt roll-spin with grace and calm.
to be honest, ive done some research over the past couple of days, and it seems fsx was really focused on the visual aspects of flying while most of the people that bought fsx could only experience maybe a third of its visual potential, and now that i see how realistic and in depth the flight dynamics are in X-plane are, in my opinion it outweighs the the graphics of fsx (even on a standard gaming pc) plus in my opinion x-plane seems to have more potential
I just recently purchased x-plane and it is my opinion that the standard C172 in FSX flies more realistically than the one included in x-plane. It seemed way too twitchy/loose even in in calm weather at high airspeeds.
i feel the same way.. the only thing x-plane needs to kick fsx's ass is terminals at every big airport with working gateways and generic terminals at all the smaller airports
Yes I agree! The flying characteristics in X plane 9 are phenomenal. They certainly did their homework when they made X plane 9. X plane has some bugs they need to work out, but it is still a phenomenal game for those ready to move on after FSX.
@Transam941 I suppose you're right. I have fsx and I'm not too impressed with it as far as realism goes. But MSF has been around for a lot longer and just has so much more things you can do with it. X-plane isn't quite "ready" yet, to replace msf series. So I'm going to stick with fsx and stuff all sorts of add-ons to it for at least 2 or 3 years to come, before changing to x-plane. (I tried the demo once and hardly got the plane off the ground cause it's just so different to use than fsx)
@JSAirways I was disappointed with microsoft's decision to cancel their flight simulator series. I grew up on that shit. It gave me a headstart when I started flying three years ago. X plane lacks the flying lessons and Rod Machado did a stellar job on the FS series with the lessons. X plane is all we got for future sims, and I think when people start switching then we could see major improvements because they will have the demand for it.
Well, this video isn't about FSX. It's about the turbulence simulation in X-Plane. YOu can even watch the model physics working in X-Plane by making speed, drag and other vectors visible in real time. That's what FSX definitely doesn't do, as FSX doesn't model the physical characteristics of any given wing cross section in real time but instead uses look-up tables for it's simulation. This doesn't make it better or worse. FSX is intended to appeal to a different audience (GFX!!!), that's all.
Well, since you insist, The physics Characteristics of X-plane can Not be anything near compared to Aviation, it's Not much better then the tables FSX uses in the .air file because a Complex Physics equation for Air Data can't be done Enough times per second on todays computers to make it "Realistic"
FSX has nice graphics, the other thing it has that your beloved X-plane does Not, is an absolute Plethorea of Addons that when used make Xplane look like a joke, not to mention Austin's a jerkoff.
No need to be rude. Talking about jerk-offs, the founder of Microsoft was one and might still be.
I said the principles both engines are based on are very different and that you can make the calculated forces visible in X-Plane which you can't in FSX.
I said "FSX is intended to appeal to a different audience (GFX!!!)" which does not contradict your "FSX has nice graphics, the other thing it has that your beloved X-plane does Not". So what are you so angry about?
Bill gates is actually quite the Philanthropist, He's given away Billions. I'm not really angry about anything, I just find it slightly Humorous;
You'll find no LevelD, PMDG, no advanced commercial Addons for X-plane, it's all "Default" styled addons for the most part, which is okay, But when it comes to the interests of the simmer looking for an over-all more realistic Experience, FS9 and FSX win the market hands down right now.
Giving away lots of money (especially if you have so much you can't spend it in a hundred lifetimes) doesn't make one a philanthropist. Gates was an asshole and I think he is now an asshole in retirement. ;)
As it's an X-Plane video I won't continue talking about FSX here, there are plenty of other videos where it's appropriate.
None the less, Bill gates began a company through his Own hard Work that did very well, He earned the Billions he had in a capitalist economy by playing the right cards and working hard towards it, as far as philanthropy goes...
His will gives 10 million to each his kids and the rest of those many many billions are being distributed to charities. Philanthropist, is Definitely a good word for Mr. Gates.
X-plane has plenty of addons and a superior flight model. You can really feel the difference when flying. FS really isn't a contender anymore now that the series has been canceled.
the FS series has been put on hold by microsoft, they've stated they will re-hire a team to run Flight simulator in the future, for now FS9 and FSX are perfectly fine contenders. LevelD, PMDG, Airsimmer you name it - they all develop for the MSFS Platform. the only good addon I think i've ever seen for X-plane is the RealityXP Gauge....
Microsoft did not say they would rehire a team for Flight Simulator. Here are their exact words:
"We are committed to the Flight Simulator franchise which has proven to be a successful PC based game for the last 27 years. You should expect us to continue to invest in enabling great LIVE experiences on Windows, including flying games, but we have nothing specific to announce at this time."
You haven't surveyed "the greater majority if simmers." Give me a break.
Microsoft fired the team working on Flight Simulator as part of their preannounced 2009 job cuts. Being "committed to the franchise" is PR speak. You're not committed to a franchise if you fire the studio that's working on it.
Also, your profile video of gnomes.... and Favourites of similarly non-mind requiring games would lead me to believe you don't have all that much experience with Flight simulation or its Community.
"Non-mind requiring games?" Ignoring your odd grammar, the fact you're fishing through my profile because I pointed out the truth that Flight Simulator is dead kind of creeps me out. Please don't reply anymore.
they cant even come close to competing with x plane, do u know what the wake turb. in fs is? get close to a plane and fall out of the sky. Air speed simply drops to zero. ALso, x plane runs much better on mid performance computers, gfx quality is lower sure but still very nice and realistic, and of course, playable framerates. overall it makes you just want to go up and fly. If you dont belive me, just whatch som x plane and fsx vids, you should see the different flying styles.
That would be illegal, and you can't download it for free. It's over 72 GB of information and scenery. You can't put a file like that on the internet.
@3snowyman Wow. Looks like im on a mission to dig for that file for wake turbulence. Haha. Thanks though

X-planes flight dynamics can only be used realisticly if the plane model is extremly detailed. If not, the plane will fly badly.

if you use ASE (active sky evolution) in FSX you got this effect too. Nothing special
