Jeannie was so adorable. Cute, mischievous, and lovable. I had a crush on her in my teens. I can honestly say it was an honorable crush. In spite of her brief outfit it wasn't just about her looks, she was lovable. That impish smile of hers was so incredible. When she did that I turned to jello.

It's very hard to find this in "monochrome" these days, 'Betty'. Most stores only stock the "colorized version" of season one on home video, and local TV stations usually accept what SONY gives them (as WPIX-TV did in New York this past summer when they aired the pilot episode in "color")....

Once Barbara told Sidney Sheldon "I'm pregnant" (after the pilot episode was filmed in late '64), he decided to film as many episodes as possible before she "bloomed"; this involved episodes 2 through 11, during April and May '65, with close-up "inserts" of her filmed as late as that July, before she gave birth to Matthew Michael Ansara that August].

It's true that showing her belly button was a no no. Actually, the long veil in front of her torso was actually put there to hide the fact that she was pregnant at the time. If you look at some of the episodes, her huge belly could be seen, especially after several episodes.

Actually, 'Limp', Jeannie's harem pants were more transparent in the pilot; after seeing this, NBC insisted they be lined with silk so that her legs couldn't "peek through" the fabric...and Barbara eventually had to wear a diffrent halter top so that she wouldn't appear....more "voluptuous". The network was always nitpicking at things like that during season one.

It's nice to see the colorized version of the first episode from season 1 although it's a short version. Barbara Eden's costume in the first season was a bit conservative and less revealing and you could not see her belly button back then....still this series is timeless. It was sexy,silly,stupid and just plain funny all at the same time....needless to say I had a crush on Barbara Eden when I was 12 and 13 at that time! She's still a sweet and beautiful woman today!

"Minisodes" are just that, 'yardley'- not everything can be included in five minute "streamlined" versions; even key scenes such as Jeannie's first kiss to "Master", or Dr. Bellows' initial determination that Tony's "hallucination" of Jeannie was, in fact, that of his mother {"My mother's in Salt Lake City, sir"/"I'm a psychaitrist- I know a mother when I see one"}. I think 'Minisode' did a great job in deciding what appears here...

Richard Wess composed the theme and score for season one, 'prp' {along the lines of his sophisticated arrangements for Bobby Darin}, but ultimately, Sidney Sheldon was dissatisfied with his musical approach to "JEANNIE", and chose Hugo Montenegro to write a new theme and score for season two (the first filmed in color)- that's the one we all know!

The first season- 30 episodes- was originally filmed and shown in black & white (as I've previously mentioned), but was "colorized" in 2000, 'oldbanjoman'....

I used to have a crazy obsession with this show in 5th grade... I was so depressed when they took it off TVLand. This was colorized, wasn't it? Haha, the theme brings back old memories... I would hum it at the same time every day, lol.

Sidney Sheldon wanted to film the series in color from the very beginning. But a Screen Gems executive told him, "Save your money"...it wasn't until end of the first season that they finally allowed him to film the show in color for season two...this "colorized" version of selected scenes from the pilot episode shows how things MIGHT have looked if Sheldon had his way.....
