These children need to learn how to ward off "bullies" through speech... by convincing them to just go easy with them. Over Facebook or Myspace, you can just reply to a fool! You can also delete posts off your wall, block people, mark videos as innapropriate and all of those things! These kids probably wanted to commit suicide from day one! People place too much values in words over the internet! Even rascists can only use their mouths to chastise me. If it gets physical, I quit!
I do not believe that cyber bullying is effective in lowering self esteem! These American children are too stupid! They cry about everything that happens to them! That's why Jamaican's will always have a strong sense of character, we don't concern ourselves with such stupid things as bullying! If you block your mind to these things, then you will have no problems! People have a right to freedom of speech in most states in the world, are you still trying to say that bullying is to be a crime?
I agree with the example you gave ie not meaning it in that way.
Thats the problem with exchanges over the internet. You don't know whether it's meant as a joke or a real threat as it is merely text on a page whilst if you had an exchange face to face you could tell by tone of voice or expressions or whatever
What if it starts on the net then moves onto real life? Such as you meet via the net and then meet and the person you meet becomes a stalker? Please reply with an opinion to this comment Mr Repzion.
@johncwilson .... This video was meant to clarify the argument I was making as I didn't do a good enough job explaining it in the first video and said was an "extension" which I admitted was the wrong wording. I still am arguing that cyber-bulling does not exist, but only in the context of strangers you've never met. In fact, in my first video I make I mention of "complete strangers". The bold statement I made was not clarified in my first video. Not sure why you're complaining.
@MrRepzion I never was complaining just offering some critcism. I know you know the difference between the two and just made a mistake in saying I was complaining. Cheers! :)
@ilightbite When did I imply he should have to do anything at all? I didn't even say he should have apologized, merely he should have argued his original point better. I am making a statement in regards to an exhange between the two of us on his last video. I am not attacking him, I am not going after him, I am merely responding.
@johncwilson Never that is kind of why I asked.. Why should he argue when he admitted that he was wrong? I've never said that you was attacking him. I only pointed out that he said that he was wrong and asked you what else he could do. Is there really a point to argue about something after you have admitted that you was wrong?
@ilightbite Lol okay... I'll bite. Once again let me just say.... I was RESPONDING to an earlier conversation, not arguing or trying to have an argument. I get it, you are trying to defend the guy, but I think he's okay over my comment..... I really do. Cheers! :)
Well this is a common problem, people thinks that the laws is what they think they should be. A lot of people says that illegal file sharing is stealing. No it's not but it infringes on copyright laws
@ethan1581 Within a SCHOOL context which has to start in person first, yes. Don't go running around saying, "I was called a faggot, *sob, sob* i am being cyberbullied". It's not unless it starts in real life.
So hang on, what if i'm bullied on the street outside of school? Hmm, it's 'bullying', of course - where bullying is the informal name for harassment, i.e. If someone harassed me on the street I didn't know, it should be in the same regard as online. People commit suicide over this, and any other form of harassment. Sad to see U.S.A legislation doesn't recognize 'bullying' to be something outside of the school context :(
@pallypower3000 " If someone harassed me on the street I didn't know, it should be in the same regard as online. " Verbal or physical harassment is not even remotely the same as cyberharassment. Both can involve words, but verbal harassment is not the same thing as me writing you an email telling you to "go suck on a *****". Online harassment through words is translated by the receiver (you) whereas real life harassment you know when you're being harassed in a dangerous or threatening manner.
@MrRepzion Well, then we all should brush up on our English skills, and display proper mechanics in our texts to produce the correct tone. Yeah, in a perfect world I suppose that will happen :P. Anyways, i'm just saying, if someone repeatedly attacked me online telling me I should kill myself, that should be considered the same as if it where real life or not honestly. If a person insults me then leaves saying "Don't take offence, I was just joking mate"... is that real life trolling?
@MrRepzion Fuck off lol, this is harassment... you could argue if adultery if the same online and offline...... but this is strictly to mental health.... But hey, I'm an 18 year old christian and still learning.... You can go to a point and say cyber vs real life is not the same, end of the day, you shouldn't call people names and generally be nice. There has to be some teaching in the bible about this somewhere...
@MrRepzion Since you're going by legal definitions, I guess we'd have to look up how the laws apply to that situation, i.e., when is online sex illegal. However, if I'm not mistaken those fall under state laws in the U.S. so there might be quite a variety of possibilities. Underage sex issues might be treated the same as in real situations sometimes. I guess sending or posting illicit images is the same whether it's real photographs or digital ones so that might apply too.
When somebody says "the world would be better off without you", in my opinion that's wishing death on a person. That's like telling somebody to go kill themselves. You can't tell somebody to go die, then shrug it off when it happens and say "well... I didn't mean what I said, I didn't think they'd actually do it". Those who commit suicide over a comment are no doubt mentally unstable & insecure from the start, but the one who made the comment should be held accountable to some degree.
In conclusion this subject is defiantly something that should be tackled. I think the Supreme Court eventually will have to face this issue. What is cyber bullying? Where does it extend from opinion to bullying. Should trolling be illegal? Or is it free speech? I think the 1st amendment is going to stand very strong in a bad way. But its the risk we take for freedom.
I have been bullied and CyberBullied. There are 2 big differences that make me say your right.
1) Physical V. Mental. Physically I cannot fight back to them. Bottom line is that I can turn of my computer and open a book or ride a bike if i'm being cyberbullied.
2) When I am cyberbullied it isn't for "Nothing." Usually its due to a post, picture, video that I have put out on the internet, part of putting something out (Stranger or not) is open for attack from ANYONE.
Watched the whole video. I completely agree with you. Also, I've heard of plenty of cases where people commit suicide with the reasoning being harassment over the internet. Obviously they had some kind of mental issues because if someone were to insult me in real life I wouldn't kill myself, especially if you don't know the person. It's all completely avoidable.
It's interesting how people loose interest in the subject matter when the video is long for accuracy purposes. It pretty much is just a syntax issue. The damaging stuff people do online does have names and are crimes for the most part when they represent real threats or genuine fraud to defame someone's character, it's only the term cyber-bullying in a legal sense that doesn't apply many times but some other legal term. You could have summed it up in a minute but I liked the detailed vid.
How could there possibly be an justified intention behind saying "the world would be a better place w/out you." No, they may not have been trying to get her to kill herself but what that woman said was awe full. The girl probably killed herself for more than one reason but I don't think what that woman said was ok.
@arcencielstylin I'm not sure it is illegal in the U.S. to say that to anyone, even if it's to their face. You can be fired by your employer for saying something they don't like because free speech rights don't apply to public statements by employees, but there is nothing criminal in saying that that I know of. Simply hating on people is legal in the United States, which is where the laws and definitions in this vid were referenced.
@arcencielstylin No place is Utopia. Even countries dramatically more peaceful than the U.S. statistically often have to deal with the issues of bullying and hateful speech or even violence. It's just particularly noticeable in the U.S. because there is the assumption that the U.S. is supposed to be a really nice place to live (and compared to some countries it is), and then you get surprised by the problems there.
@TheRainbowTribe Ya, I know you are right. I just see all things wrong w/ the U.S.. I really wanna live in Europe or Australia but Im sure they have there problems too.
I don't think that anyone is claiming that cyberbullying can occur among complete strangers- in that case it's just trolling. You probably should have made that more clear because theres a huge difference.
:D I was downloading something (none of your business) and this is the perfect length for my download. A debate and a download, that isn't any of your business what it is...

@AzrealeInsanityxxxD The fact fat you obviously had time to tell that you're not going to watch the video. The comment section is for people who has watched the video. And you are totally wrong. @ilightbite The comment section is available to everyone, including people who want to say that they're not watching the video, or even bashing the youtuber. I do have a 6 month old child, does that mean I'm home all the time? No. Even when I'm at home I'm not gonna sit on my computer and listen to 35 minutes of rambling, and I have the right to inform "Mr.Repzion" of that. This is the internet, I can type out whatever bullshit I want to. Are you forced to read it? Nope.
