  • Fuckin Right! Gust honed them cylinders clean! Dude; it kind of sounds bad ass. I'd like to see all the big talkers stand next to that shit. Yea Right, they'd run too!

  • that thing was fucking roaring lol you guys restoring it?

  • At least he got it right, I've told other people this, if your diesel runs away, choke the oxygen, that's it!

  • now thats how you ( clean out the cobb webs ) lol

  • I like how it's blowing sparks and shit out the exhaust.

  • And this is why we need to learn from our elders. Just because we have all this new technology on our motors doesn't mean squat when yuo have something 62 years old.

  • Pause at 2:08 haha

  • lmfao when the scared bitches ran away!!!! haaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaa" mommy!!!! i was afraid of the big noise!!!!!! haaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaa

  • i kinda wish they never fixed that problem so i could see that thing gernade!

  • this was a truck bound for the junk yard that these guys brought back to life shit happens with out taking the engine apart you can't tell every thing about it, it just needs work

  • Wow you are lucky that wood didn't catch on fire! This is a close call and yeah, old man has some balls! Not only to stop it, but to sit in/near the truck and wait it out haha!

  • @Jonnyferrari202 why in the hell would the wood catch on fire? duhhhhh????

  • What a bunch of fucking idiots too bad it didn't blow up, teach you fucks a lesson

  • fuck you agin faggots! gramps is the only one with balls! you left him to explode with your gay truck. i've worked for mack for 27 years and have seen it all! you two are cunts!!!!

  • @frescabigblock Yeah why dont you go tell that to them in person and see how fast they kick your ass.

  • @alecluke844 u stand next to runaway diesel and will see how big of a man u are

  • @alecluke844 no thanks, the pussy that ran away might try and blow me.

  • @alecluke844 i sure as fuck would..you chicken shits

  • @frescabigblock lol fuckin classic man

  • @frescabigblock The man who claims to have seen it all has seen very little...

  • @MercuryMorrison1 Are you chineese?

  • @frescabigblock Do I look chinese?

  • es lo mas pendejo que me tocado mira en los vídeos de un grandiosa detroit diésel

  • Poor ol girl went from retirement to heart attack haha, wow !! This happened at our shop once, nobody knew what the fuck to do, finally we just cut the fuel line.

  • @Eheld786 Euh.. A runaway is caused by the engine running on lubrication oil?

  • @Skoda130 true, but a stuck throttle will also do it such as in this case

  • I love the little bitch running away from it lol

  • hahahaha thats nothing hahaah

  • old guy walks over there like its a sunday walk and take care of business.

  • Another day, another Detroit Diesel 2 stroke runs away...

  • well...got all the cobwebs out

  • what a beautiful old truck

  • wonder what rpm that was?

  • it didnt suck that ice cream lid into the motor LOL the fat kid shit his pants and dropped it as he was running for his life LOL

  • Ever heard of keeping a CO2 fire extinguisher handy????

  • I hope the old girl is stile running after that very high idle .

  • that cleared it! LOL

  • Sick truck!

  • well you know it runs now lol..

  • Proof that the older generations are tougher.

  • @1987slim Yea,smarter to.

  • lol like really! total pussed out.

  • Dude the rag didnt go through the intake u pussed out and pulled it out and dropped it while u where runnin for ur life :)

  • LOL that guy who ran away definitly pissed his pants xd the reaction of the old man is good, more people should know what to do if this happens.

  • I like all the comments saying how its such a piece of crap and stuff. I guess some people dont realize this is almost normal for a 2 stroke, especially one that has been sitting for years. There is a reason gm put emergency shutdowns on them from the factory. A nice piece of plywood over the intake also works great

  • WTF? A little too much either

Well atleast she has some spunk ehh?

  • how do u say lemon?

  • @97explorersport how do you say you like boys

  • @97explorersport Lemon????

  • @97explorersport how do you say you're a tool?!!

this thing has been sitting since (according to the posted) '81. show me some modern day engine that'll sit for 30 years, have the oil changed, fuel cleaned/flushed out, and still run?

and i'm talking about actually parking it & walking away. no long term engine storage prep, just shut it off & walk away.

and i can guarantee you that this truck was parked with no intention of it sitting 30 years.

  • @alecluke844 So is the engine salvageable? What do y'all plan on doing with the truck now?

  • Just noticed all the sparks coming out of the exhaust.

This motor ever run right after this?

  • too funny but hey the old man took care of it .

  • Keep a CO2 fire extinguisher handy.

Blast the intake with the CO2 and it snuff out a runaway.

No damage to the engine, no risk of rags sucked in ect.

  • You want somethin done ya gotta do it yourself. Kids. Well I guess this means they"ll know what to do next time instead of running. At least they wont have to get that rag that was thrown on the floor out of the blower. Btw please do it again and put the camera inside the engine compartment this time. #loveadetroit

  • HAHA THEY NEED TO MAN UP!! If that was THEIR truck running that high of RPM's, would they run try to kill it? Fuck, I would find a way to turn it off.

  • @wheely132 It is "their" truck. they had no idea that it was going to run away. it could have exploded and killed them. sure it may have "looked cool" to stay there and try and shut it down, but i would rather live.

  • @alecluke844 Do you know what caused the runaway? And is the engine still useable after this?

  • @Skoda130 yes, the fuel rack was stuck wide open, so when it fired up, it went straight to full speed.

  • @alecluke844 ive done a couple old diesel start ups. i was warned of them running away and exploding and learned that they really do explode on the first one ill admit though it was kinda funny but then again it sucked but from then on i carried a CO2 fire extinguisher or a small thick runner mat because well lets face it all engines need to breath no oxygen no fire

  • green horn with a black stripe in his drawers

  • lol, look at the pussies run

  • I think the rings are seated now, Mel.....

  • Back around 1960 there used to be an old GMC single-axle dump with a diesel exhaust (4-71 detroit) like this one that roamed our end of town. I used to run down the alley to try and catch a glimpse of it as it pulled onto the main thoroughfare and go through the gears. Pure poetry to my young ears,

    .

  • Hahaha that happened to one of the 4-53's we had at school, got the video of it too!

  • Does it say Walla Walla Washington on the door?

  • Tough old guy,way to be calm in a situation like that.

  • Bull shit "It sucked it in" 2:08 he threw it on the ground!

  • Ya don't know what you're starting till it's started, and then it's too late.. Good save!

  • God bless that old guy

  • "Holy crap" this was just after he seen how much was in his pants

  • Wow,very unexpected noise level rise.

  • Hard way to start a 30 years sleeper.....

old diesel crankage = cap to plug intake ALWAYS !!!!!!

    I

  • faggot panzies! the old man is the only one with know how and balls! watch those pussies run away!!!!!

  • @frescabigblock you are the gay one. i would like to see you in that situation. i bet you would run home and cry to your mom. or maybe stand there and get blown up. do you even know what a detroit is?

  • @alecluke844 that's exactly what you did...

  • @alecluke844 what dumbass's and before you make your self look even more retarded with some dumbass comment look at all the thumbs up them comments get that explain how big of a pussy you morons are. go back to playing with legos these engines are for real men.

  • @frescabigblock and the prick of the year award goes out to frescabigblock

  • that was awesome thumbs up for the old man

  • God bless that old man, there ain't many people like him around no more.

  • @HedgehogOutdoors calm cool and collective the three important things to be in a situation like that

  • Whoa! What happens to the motor next? Do you have to tear it apart and rebuild it, or is it good to go once the fuel rail has been reset?

  • did anyone else notice the sparks flying outta the exhaust

  • @farmboy3w Yup. It's burning carbon deposited knocked loose by the high RPM and airflow. Harmless, though the first time running my Mog I was concerned at how much I got but it's normal on an older diesel, and once you air it out they stop.

  • Comment removed

  • I can just barely read where it says "walla walla" on the door, that's pretty cool cause I live near there. what else does it say on there?

  • @jaxes88 I was thinking the same. Maybe an old Roger's cannery truck. Still a damn cool truck

  • 5,000RPM ftw

  • That is really amazing that that thing didn't explode. I've never seen an old diesel run that fast.

  • @crmchzandchives2 Not running that fast.Sounds like the Governor is working on limiting the revs but stuck at WOT.I would put that at a around 2500 RPM but it might be a tad over being Detroits will rev past factory redline slightly unloaded.

  • @crmchzandchives2 sounds worse than it is, because it's two stroke. Still not good, though.

  • This is the best. man that kid was crappin them coveralls full. I can't quit watching this. It reminds me of the good old days of working on them detroits. Like others have said always have a good thick detroit shop manual handy to slap over the intake pipe. Maybe make sure the emergancy trip works also, but I've seen them not completly stop with the trip shut. Dan

  • From what I've seen in many videos. If you are trying to start a diesel that's been sitting awhile... always be prepared to kill it through suffocation.

  • @yesiamanalien This is why you have the valve cover off and make sure the rack is free. Put a vise grip on the rack tube and hold in closed position. open alittle so engine will fire up, when it does open alittle more and make sure the goverenor takes over. If it does release vice grips. If not stop engine and see what the problem is. Dan

  • Man that thing has some power. Hope it didn't do any damage to the engine. I love that truck it is a beast. They don't make them like that anymore. Those was the best years.

  • It's aliiiiiiive! TOO ALIIIIIIVE! KILL IT!

  • i love how the other guy ran and the look on his face

  • Did you ever get it to run right?

  • welcome back to life NOW DIE !!!!!!!!!

  • God, this makes me cringe just thinking of what damage is occuring every second it's doing that. When I was a little kid my Mom would start her old Pinto in the winter and the throttle cable would stick at WOT and she'd start it and let it run full speed when it was sub zero outside, needless to say it threw a rod that spring. We didn't have a car for almost a year after that. These runaway vids make me re-live it every time, but I can't stop watching either :)

  • @Nodak81 what damage?

  • @cber8860

Really? You think that was good for it? May not have been severely damaged but there's no way that there wasn't some sort of internal damage (or at least extreme wear) to an engine that hasn't run in 30 years and likely had a lot of moving parts that hadn't had oil in a long time, turning over a few times isn't going to oil the whole system.

  • Poor kid was so scrared he dropped it and it landed on the floor it didnt go in,old man said shit they ran off!..Its ok i ran fron a backfire when i was a kid bout got ran over in the process!

  • WOW..I wonder what the hp & tq would of been if it was on a DYNO ?

  • I like how the old man is all calm and kills the engine like it happens everyday.

  • @Ssooz That's probably because the old man KNOWS these engines from back in the day.

  • What a Liar "It suck it in the intake" no it didn't watch at 2.08. I think you will find it on the floor! LMAO

  • @djgerbiluk yep you are right he is a liar. Next time put this @ 2:08 he throws it in the floor lol. lol at it sucked it. Listen @ 3:02

  • no school like the old school. i'd have been out the door with the rest of them.

  • Sounds like she runs good, just free up the fuel rack!

  • that was cool as hell

  • always have a manual handy haha, they work quite well

  • WOW!!! That thing was on a mission!!!!

  • It's something else when those things run away like that... Detroit 2 strokes are great engines.. They did run away more than most diesels but hell they have a great track record of dependability and are still used in many applications to this day.. Good thing he knew how to shut it down before it turned in to a grenade.

  • i would stay away from those detroit siesels bud, they got plenty of power but their blow up specials,we ahd a chevy with 1 in it and the pos blew up after 100,000mi,s i got a 1983 mack r686 with 774,000 mi,s on and never been rebuilt it smokes a litte but still runs good and strong only problom is rusty cab

  • @MRcubcadet107

There are a shitload of Detroits out in the gulf of mexico on cranes we service. They have their quirks, but they're by no means a bad engine. They make plenty of power as well.

  • @phantom240 when they run there great and have lot,s of power ,but i hear alot of stories of them blowin up,ours did at 100,000mi,i just think the macks, fords and international are much better trucks, kenwopers and peterbuilts are great too

  • cough cough waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • thats the truck saying " WHO THE FUCK JUST WOKE ME UP???"

  • Cool truck man! Love them old Detroits!

  • lollllllll red particule cumming out the muffler most of all old detroit 2 stroke had this problem! ALWAY HAVE A FLAT SURFACE covered with rubber to put in the intake ! Verry nice video Max.

  • Love the camera vibrations from the sound @ 2:38 The fact this can happen still blows my mind. Thx!

  • thats why you dont spray a whole can of starting fluid. seriously i knew that when i was 13! use it once and no longer than a second or never again. your lucky you didnt blow that shit up!

  • dont use ether on a diesel. will make the rings stick bad

  • The notebook is on the floor next to your skid marked drawers.

  • that woulda scared the shit outta me, thats why i like my gassers :D

  • Yes it has the 2 valve head

  • @Tylerscummins i think u pissed it off lol

  • does that truck have the orginal 2 valve head enegine in it? ur gonna have too get more videos cant believe u got it for 600 bucks

  • Cool heads prevail good job.

  • That was unreal. Lets make sure that never happens agian
