I climbed up right where you come out of the tunnel from under the curve on the west side. Since me and my buddy were in pursuit of an 82E with an awesome lashup, we just kinda ran up the side of the mountain and kept going, eventually we came out to an ATV trail which brought us right out to the west side of the curve. I know theres a "real" trail that gets you right up there, but we didn't have any time to pussyfoot around and look for it. I hiked up to an overlook from where I took this shot.
Haha cuz now I'm a train symbol whore cuz I actually know most of em, just makes it a little more fun. Then again, all that really matters is the sound of those units pounding up the curve in notch 8. Thanks for rating!
Thanks man! And if you thought THIS was good, wait till you see the 21J meets 82E video that I shot from here that I'm still editing, which is without a doubt, the best video I've ever shot. 100% pure dumb luck in terms of timing, thats all I'm gonna say!
My best sighting on the Curve was 22 May 07 at 5pm. NS was sending units west for some executive function. Two helpers went slow around the curve checking track. Few minutes later, 14 units hitched together. Two helpers followed checking the track. Only five or six people up at the Curve to witness the spectacle. I look forward to all your videos!
Hahaha DUDE!! Are you trying to tell me that you were like yards away from me??! MAN! how the HELL did we not end up trackside at ANY point during that trip! And dude...just WAIT until you see my shot of that 82E!!! Well, I got 3, but the one from this vantage point is the best shot I've ever taken, hands down!!
Dude no way I caught this train at Plumber's Road crossing in Tyrone and then again from the base of the HS Curve. I remember leaving my camera on because 82E came right down, after 23W ended, with front helpers, NS SD50 5409 in blue and two UP AC4400CW's. I chased it to Tipton and caught it again. There were lots of good trains prior to this guy, 67Z and an intermodal with an exLMS leader. Good day it was indeed... except sun would have been nice. :-)
Oh yea, since you were there I need your help. The only reason 23W is in the title of this video is because it LOOKS like one, I was originally told that the one with the SD70M-2/ex-CR C40-8W/SD70 was a 23W, but it looked more like a 21J/21M to me, and it couldn't be 21M cuz 21M was a pumpkin sandwich that day. SOOOO...what was this train, and what was the one that cleared right before 82E came down? If you remember
Dude, I didn't catch the ID he was quiet. 21E had the LMS leader, NS 8463 and NS 2592, and 21J had NS 2684, NS 8404 (blue), and NS 9301. So I don't know.
been there so many times..me and my dad walked down all 12 miles a few times.
