Noodles great love for Deborah and Max makes this movie far differerent from the Godfather. The Godfather was all about the logic of "reasonable men", while this is movie about almost irrational passion. Noodles raping the woman of his dreams was the great tragedy of the film - nothing in the Godfather compares to that sort of utter dispair.
I heard this soundtrack for the first time today and haven't even watched the movie yet. I can tell this is gunna be great to watch and plus I found it for 6 bucks at walgreens so im getting it.
not uplifting for sure..its downlifting...sierro leone sure is a masterful torturer of the 21st century..justin beber whos that imbecile wu posted that name..yeah sure jsutin bebier can play the role of the newspaper boy putting out the newspaper arson fire..he sure wud sing gallantly or holler at the top of his voice..hahahahaha!!
@TheTmny876able different. both fantastic movies. you should watch them both. However, i strongly suggest you to watch the european version of once upon a time in america, because the american version was cut by half.
The Godfather is definitely more fun, but despite their similarities, their actually to different to compare. The Godfather is more of a mob movie, while OUATIA is more of an epic human drama and tragedy about people whohappen to be mobsters.
I didnt expect this film to be like this. It was actually very faux-modern. ie the way we would expect a movie like this to be made today, only they never are. Actually, after Casino, is this type of movie now redundant? Why, after Casino, have all these kind of films stopped? And before you say it, The Departed was about cops, not gangsters.
@Saint666ist I thought PE was incredibly boring, as I did with American Gangster, which was even more boring. I found these two films very dissapointing. Aside from the great visuals I have nothing to recommend PE, I just watched it and felt empty cos' apart from Depp all the characters were all so bland.
@Pentdad iv'e been thinking the same thing since The Departed came out, i think it's cus a lot of directors and producers are really into that stupid ass green screen and 3d effect
@LuiB13 I also think the gangster movie in general has not had any decent films about it for some time, what do you think dude? I found Public Enemies really dull and dissapointing, and American Gangster well I have tried but cant get interested in it at all. Road To Perdition was fine but no classic. Have I missed any pearls or something or is the new millenium the century of retarded comedies, reboots and cgi?
I have always loved this film and the beautiful soundtrack, I am a big Man and not especially friendly, but I am always in tears when I her/see the movie and hear the soundtrack...We all have a heart..Thanxx screen for hiding me....EPIC!!
I only saw it recently and I can honestly say it's one of the best movies ever made. Ennio Morricone has created a beautiful score that is bound to be remembered. Once Upon A Time in America is a masterpiece.
I love De Niro as an actor and he had the talent to show his own skill shooting with the best realizators ( Cimino , Leone , scorcese ) of course i ran faster than Bolt to watch the movie at the time it was released. this movie resulting into a masterpiece
of 7th art is due to actors play , ambiance , story choice and of course MM. Morricone and Georg Zamfir flute. Thanks to all for restituting this historical saga
I agreee ! THE BEST MOVIE and music-soundtrack ! I' ll say epic !!! I watched this wonderful film when I was 8 ! And for today a watched maybe 15 times ! And I will another 15 !!! From the director to the actors! Sergio Leone (his last film) Robert De Niro, James Woods, Joe Pesci,Tuesday Weld...and the others... great performing and directing, and novel-story ! Just everything perfect !!!
(But is realy sadness because film like this doesn't making anymore)
A deeply mysogynous film! Beautiful images, music, but also scenes that do not for one instant question the image of women portrayed. Violence is shown without any critique and only from a disturbing point of view

masterpieces like this will last for centuries ... it's a pitty but it seems we're not able always to appreciate genius people during their life time.
Agreed Morricones score for Once Upon A Time in The West is incredible but his music for Once Upon A Time in America captures the mood and atmosphere of 1930s depression Brooklyn quite magnificently.
There's one thing we can agree on and that Ennio Morricone is a genius when it comes to writing music.
