  • Having played tennis myself, I knew that Federer was an amazing player. Djokovic right now I thought was really amazing.

I spent a good amount of time one day looking at clips of all the greats from 1960 to the present. Federer is an order of magnitude above everybody else.

He is not just amazing. Federer is *preposterously amazing*

  • Great Roger! Just Great!

  • there are fourteen people that don´t know play the real tennis :/

  • If 2004 Federer could play now he would beat Djokovic in straight sets.

  • Why do players say the grass plays slower these days and the clay courts play faster these days? Do they change up the grass and clay???

  • @aznboi1398 They canged the grass to make it more durable (which made it slower). They changed the FO balls in 2009, which are slightly faster.

  • 5:10 SPLENDIDO!

  • @leeho0113 Best comment ever. Thank you.

  • @leeho0113

except he's not though, is he?

  • @leeho0113 Where's Djokovic in ur theory?

  • @Skafiskafnjak as you can see, that comment was posted a year ago... the djokovic wasnt the world No. 1 at that time or 2 or 3 i think

  • @Sebreyone Just rubbing it in. :D haha.

  • All you have are points that Federer won. Why?

  • Telecronaca di Gianni e Rino <3

  • leeho0113 proves that without knowing what you're talking about, you can still sound extremely convincing.

  • I'm a huge fan of Roger Federer, but my brother is a huge fan of Roddick

When we were small, I felt really happy when Federer beat Roddick

But now I feel a bit sorry for my brother and Roddick, although I'm still a huge fan of Federer, because you know why, espiecally in wimbledon final 2009

Anyway I really want Federer to win Wimbledon this year, the last one was already Australian open 2010, come on Roger!

  • What happened to Wimbledon grass? In 2001 i saw the ball bounce higher than ever, in 2004 slightly higher in this video, from 2005 2006 onwards bounced highest. It simply can't take away the ball's energy now.

  • I don't know who is worse, the Italian commentators or the Russian commentators. They just cannot shut up!

  • Roddick's approach shots are laughable. He should have known they would not be good enough for Federer, let alone any top 20 player.

  • I think I'm going to retire from reading comments. All you hear is people comparing eras which is near to impossible, it's just a very ignorant discussion between unintelligent fools.

  • Andy Roddick is only a mere mortal... he can't stack up well against this god of tennis

  • Wheres the Roddick highlights, this all Federer highlights

  • @leeho0113 feds serve isnt good and his backhand is okay it isnt great either

  • @manyturk Who's that then?

  • Allways..all of you.Federer,Federer,Federer!!ohh please...give a litle credit to Roddick,because he's also a good player...all the highlights when Federer wins the point...cut the crap!

  • Can't blame anybody. In any field, no matter how good you are, TIME defeats everyone! At least, in RF's case, when he looks back after he retires, he can look back with a smile, because he owns ''the greatest'' place in tennis history!

  • Roddick being outclassed by Roger as usual.

  • @leeho0113 I just wanna add that Michael Llodra with an amazing volleycan make a top 30 player.

  • @leeho0113 Genius !

  • @leeho0113 Michael Chang was 5 feet tall. That's what happened to his career. He became too fat.

  • @ledgaren yeah but its a massive 'if'. agassi was still winning masters and going deep in slams at the age of 33. federer has more efficiency than agassi so I believe fed will still win a slam (at least) every year for the next 3 years (at least). Can you really see nadal bouncing around the way he does in even 4 years time? maybe, but he will have had so much time off with injury that its hard to say he will be fit for every slam until then.

  • 2:16 most epic scream ive ever heard him yell

  • ace at 517 was the greatest ever

  • whenever you post a video of a match lets show both players win some points, it makes it more interesting. And it will give more credit to whoever your highlighting becuase their oppenent is more worthy XD

  • @leeho0113 well for now he may be considered so but rafa certainly can surpass him we havent seen everything yet and i think he will shatter fed's records later that of course if he keeps himself healthy enough but before you all throw stones at me i'm a roger fan.

  • it seemed like first change in grass starts from 2001 then 2006 till now. In this vid balls are still skidding, nadal will never rally at such surface.

  • it's seems to be coming off the grass differently, not faster or slower, just different during 2004 on youtube

  • i think you got the title wrong... "King of Tennis!!" lol this is when federer was at his best =) now hes getting old =(((

  • @emoboynumber13 He STILL is the King of Grass, Those who doubt it are just jerks ;)

  • @leeho0113 al lot of ppl have already said it, but thats a very nice comment mate :D on of the nicest i have read so far

  • @leeho0113 Probably one the best comments ever in any of youtube videos so thanks mate...

  • @leeho0113 you are my IDOL

  • @leeho0113 very well said!!

  • FEDERER MAKES TENNIIS LOOK SO EASY

  • @blerandi91 I'm sure you are :)

  • Im actually one of the only people who could beat Federer

  • at 2:50 , I love roddicks reaction: "Thats a good volley".

I dont understand why some people hate roddick so much. If half the players put hte effort he put in every match, they'd be top 20 players easy. People think he comes across as arrogant, but I've loved the guy ever since I saw him v El Enouyi in AO QF 2003. One of my favorite matches ever. Saying that, a 21-19 fifth set seems a drop in the ocean compared to 70-68

  • @Jamus182

well, i just hate him because he very often becomes a jerk to the linesmen and umpire when he starts losing

  • SPLENDIDO!

  • yep. what federer now needs to do is look thru these past youtube videos of him playing back in his prime old days. that way, he will start to remember or re structure his game to play better physically and mentally.

  • This was when Federer was at his (virtually unbeatable) prime. What I like most about Federer is that he is not a 'power' player and his play style is very graceful and great to watch.

Nadal is better than Federer now, but Nadal is 24 and Federer is nearly 30 years old. And as we know, tennis is a particularly brutal sport in that even people in their late 20's will see a noticable decline in skill compared to when they were younger. Nobody, not even Federer, can remain that good forever.

  • Pete Sampras- The True ONE AND ONLY KING OF GRASS

  • @mudda001 Sampras, the King of Grass ...?? JAJAJJAJAJAAJ ... Federer > Sampras, on that matter ;) Check 2001 Wimbledon match. Federer = just a kid by then, and Sampras = The 'uncrowned' champion of Grass, Roger just proved people wrong about Sampras ;)

  • @MattyOyola21 They grass was slowed down in 2001 moron! Roger never beat him on real grass. Roger and Rafa are the kings of fake slow grass only. Real grass is for serve and volley players.

  • @thisislaser Yeah,,, Yeah .. .. Yeah ... Most retarded comment ever. Do you know who Richard Krajicek is? ;)

  • @MattyOyola21 Yeah Krajicek won Wimbledon when it meant something before it was turned into another clay court for baseliners. Rafa and Roger are afraid of him on fast grass. They admitted this.

  • @thisislaser And do you remember who was beaten by Krajicek in THAT tournament of 1996? ;)

  • @MattyOyola21 Sampras. And if Roger or Rafa played Richard Krajicek on real grass he'd beat them too. He had lots of injuries that was his problem.

  • @thisislaser Excuses, excuses.... Now you're saying that Richard would have beaten Roger on Wimbledon??? It's just obvious you know NOTHING about tennis ;) What else? Are you going to say that Sampras is the G.O.A.T.? For God sake!

  • @MattyOyola21 It depends on the speed of the court. Roger would win on the slower grass. Today's game is easy for Rafa and Roger. they only face one style - baseline on slow courts. that's why you see average ball pushers like Andy Murray around

  • @thisislaser without a doubt Federer would also have won 5 Wimbledon titles on grass from the 90's. His reflections are probably the best out there, his volleys also could have been but are a little bit underdeveloped (getting better again), and he wouldn't have lost to Nadal. Also he still would have returned Roddick's serve better than anyone else.

  • @Elwink he did compete at wimbledon in late 90's fast grass and he lost. He was still young of course. He could beat Nadal on that. Agassi could return roddick's serve as well as Federer.

  • @MattyOyola21 wow i think sampras was like 30-31 back then. an old man in tennis years. federer beat a old man that was way past his prime in 5 sets.

  • This is the real grass, see the bounce. Nadal wouldn't have won on this surface.

  • nowadays federer FH and BH always land short, allowing many players to hurt him by hitting hard returns. I wonder whats the reason, prob due to loss of strength in aging. Its no longer the giant whip. He didnt give opponents a lot of time compared to now.

  • @Baddieko well said

  • back when federer had almost no unforced errors, which are causing him close matches now, cant be in ur prime forever though, thats why its called a prime.

  • Yeah, I~m a fed fan but roddick is the sportman who gets his arse kicked most on all of youtube sports thanks to Rog. We can thank god we had Roddick to bring out the best in Roger. I have many favourite fed vids on youtube but I will always come back to this one in the years ahead to remember that there never will be another sublimity like the divine Roger...

  • roddick came out firing, i thought he was gunna win back in 2004 when i watched it, but stupid rain delay fucked him up and federer remained at his piquant best.

  • federer had to go to his best friend for advice during this match cuz he was having trouble with roddicks powerful serve

  • trust me, I speak italian... ;-)

  • Are they speaking Portuguese?

  • @OneWingDuck italian....

  • @jophcap Are you sure? thought I heard stuff like "muito bowa" which is portuguese, but they might be a lot alike.

  • @OneWingDuck trust me, I speak italian... ;-)

  • @jophcap alright, in that case......

  • don't get me wrong, i'm a Fed fan but -- could you get some Roddick points in there? i don't want to have to feel sorry for him throughout the whole video, lol. i know he did better than what this video showed thanks.

  • Rafael Nadal King of Clay

    Pete Samparas King of grass

ROGER FEDERER KING OF THEM ALL!!

  • Federers forehand was bonecrushing

  • One of the greatest athletes ever, and a class act.

Some champions don't deserve respect. Federer deserves ALL of the respect.

  • This looks almost like another era now, with players like Agassi and Henman and Grosjean and Hewitt and whatnot... Almost everyone among the last eight in GS tournaments in 2004 is retired or way past-prime now. Yet Federer has been in every GS semifinal and in something like 21 of 23 GS finals ever since, winning...15? of them, the last one 3 weeks ago :-P

  • i dont think anyone of us is at the level of discussing whether federer's FH is the fastest because we have never been on the opposite end of the court against him. so if a player like agassi says that it is the fastest then maybe it is

  • I'm starting to believe that no one here actually watches anyone but Federer.

Footwork hasn't improved at all in the last 40 years. Patterns have always existed - yes, athletes have gotten faster and stronger but that isn't footwork - that's just speed!

And Federer's serve is overrated. People can go ahead and say Federer serves better than everyone and has the best motion, but others will be held in higher regard.

  • no one says he serves better than anyone. everyone knows there are players like rafter and ivanisevich who are pure serve players and serve better than roger.

  • No that's the thing, some Feddie fans actually believe that Federer is the best at everything - trust me.

  • Well it's like the old saying Sonic2710 "A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while" But in this case the squirrel got his sight back haha. Currymastuh that's all part of the game. So I just Roddick was unlucky because he couldn't find his game after the rain delay. Seigaku001 Nadal doesn't need pity he just needs new knees. Roddick should feel lucky because without his big serve he's shit. His whole game is surrounded by that and that alone.

  • Currymastuh - it's like saying every player has gotten lucky a lot in their career, but Roger Federer, winner of 15 Grand Slams, has gotten the same amount of luck. Omg, get the fuck out. He has luck in his career, but as little as fuck.

  • @Sonic2710

15 GS titles, 22 straight GS semies, 10 straight Gs finals (an guess what, the second in history is..himself with 6 consecutive finals), 21 GS finals total, 4 Masters cup, 61 career titles, the only player with 2 x 5consecutive titles (US Open and Wimbledon), one of the six players to have a career grand slam, 3 years with 3 GS titles...

That is not luck! This guy is best technician the game ever produced; he's got the best strokes and the best footwork...

  • No chance. Laver and Borg had the best footwork ever.

Hewitt and Nadal from this current era have as good a footwork as Federer - who in prime moved great but the reason he shanks and misses FH's and BH's now is to due with his footwork getting a little worse.

Federer's FH is the greatest ever but Federer isn't top 5 for anything else in the game (except footwork, which is still close).

  • @Anaconda43VR

You are kidding me? There's not a player on the tour who floats around the court like that.

Borg... LOL! there's a huge margin between Borg an Federer...

And, speakinf of Federer's footwork, when Hewitt was on the top, he was considered the fastest player and Roddick's ofrehand was considered to be the hardest on the tour by many.

Yet, Agassi at that time spoken of Federer has being able to hit harder than Roddick and run faster than Hewitt.

  • @Anaconda43VR

And, if you cannot appreciate his service motion, there is a problem; since Sampras, I have not seen such disguise.

Also, his hands on half volleys and volleys are surely better than anyone on the tour.

I'd easily compare his net game with Sampras' and he would not have to be shy in front of the American.

Also, Federer's overheads are the most effective in the game - he barely ever misses a smash and I rarely see him being forced to play after smashing once.

  • @Anaconda43VR

Federer is a combination of every best player in history and he can exhibit equl or better any stroke or perform any thing relevant ot a given department of the game as well or even better than any other play that has played so far.

And, have you looked at Aussi Open? Tsonga and Murray are both top ten players, Murray is a former world number two... at 28,5 years old, the guy annhilates the best players he can face.

And, saw Andreev and Davidenko? Fed was as cold as ice.

  • @Anaconda43VR

RF need not be the best in any single aspect. Let Roddick be the best in serving. Still he has to concede the Wimbledon 2009 title to Roger. What does that best in one single aspect prove? Nothing.

Roger is the most complete player. His consistency won him 16 Grand Slams. It is what Murray, Djokovic and Nadal lack and which makes Roger the best.

Don't forget that there's still Roger's tactics, shot accuracy, mentality etc which make him the Champion he is today.

  • @istoriposhivz

Well, in the time of his utter domination (2004-2007), Federer's forehand and footwork were the best in the world and it was not even close.

But I want to say you're right: He combined strenghts in a matter no other player ever has.

  • In 2007, Federer started to decline...

  • @911801111801 What are you talking about? In 2007, Federer won three Grand Slams, and has been in finals of all four. Plus, he won the Masters Cup in Shanghai, two more Master Series tournaments and the Series 500 tournament in Dubai. Therefore, if you had looked at the facts, you would have seen that Federer had had one of the most successful seasons ever. I wouldn't call that DECLINING.

  • Comment removed

  • In fact, it´d be one of the most succesful seasons ever, if it´d been carried out by any other player... but not for Federer because of his standards... From 2004 to 2006, Federer averaged 82.34 wins per season, and 11.34 titles per season...

  • If we compare that to 2007, Federer had a 68-9 record (yes, 4 more losses than his average of 5 from 2004 to 2006, and had less wins, therefore having a winning percentage of 88% [yes, less than 90%, when from 2004 to 2006, he had a winning percentage of 94.3%]) and won ``only´´ 8 titles... you see, regardless of what any person, you or I, can say, it's CALLED DECLINING...

  • I knew it right away that Federer would continue to decline in 2008 after the 2007 season ended (also Federer's 2008 season'd be a career season for other player, but not for him beacause of his standards), I wasn't surprised at all... it was only natural...

  • @911801111801 What are you talking about, Federer was completely dominant at the year end Shanghai Masters in 2007, his decline began with the mono early 2008. He has never been his consistent self since then.

  • Sorry, but statistics don't say so... in 2007, Federer won less matches, lost more matches and won less titles than in 2004, 2005 or 2006... so, it was easy to see it coming that he wouldn't do it so masterfully as he was doing it from 2004 to 2006 in 2008, because it was apparent in 2007 that he wouldn't be able to keep up that rytthm anymore...

  • @911801111801 I respectfully disagree Federer won 3 majors got to a fourth major final and won the year end event vs 2004 where he was out before the quarters at the french or 2005 where he won 2 major and lost in the year end championship finals. Winning pct. over a season is the biggest identifier its Slam results

  • @F2125524 *is not the biggest identifier

  • Federer's 2004 and 2005 seasons were better than his 2007 one... he did better in EVERY statistic in those years compared with 2007, EXCEPT for ''Grand Slam results''...

  • @istoriposhivz Roddick might serve harder, but that doesn't mean he serves better.

  • @Anaconda43VR

Even when you oputplay him, you need to outplay this man for five sets or else you loose. As soon as your level drops, he's already there, confident that he can take everything away from you.

16 GS... and still counting. I keep saying it since months, some day, it will be plain ridiculous to speak of anyone and compare him to Federer. And, his game against Tsonga proves my point: he made an exhibition of all the strokes and strategy mastery he has.

  • You're confusing "footwork" for "speed."

Federer's footwork is unmatched. To say Hewitt has footwork as good as Federer is an absolute joke.

  • you may not believe this, but federer and his fitness coach, actually studied hewitt´s footwork probably to take something out of it..im not making this up, but yes, I agree, no other player has smoother, more fluid, well balanced footwork than roger does.

  • @Ricearoni80

    They are different!

Footwork is about coordination, and side stepping.

speed is just how fast your legs work. Monfils could outsprint anyone but hasn't got the best footwork on tour. He is athletic on tour.

Most people know that Hewitt had the best footwork on tour. He didn't have the weapons of Federer or Nadal though.

Federer's footwork isn't the best anymore - seeing as he shanks more balls now!

  • @Anaconda43VR

Also how do you compare Roger in a much faster, more physically demanding game in today to likes of Edberg, Becker in a completely different game in the past?

Hewitt's footwork is good. But when his footwork is completely useless against another player, say in the numerous times he got trashed by Roger, how do you say that his footwork is already the best, when not many other players managed to make a fool out of Roger's footwork?

  • @GueorguiJoukov Very good summary. By the time you wrote that he was second with actually even 7 consecutive (French 08 - US 09) finals, ending up with 8 after winning the Australian Open/reaching final. Now, his QF-run is also quite impressive :) and still counting. He is the best. I sincerely hope he makes it 18+, overtaking Navratilova and Evert. He prolly won't beat Margaret Court in that regard but let's see :)

  • this video is biased against roddick.

  • Currymastuh who got lucky at 1:35 you fucking son of a bitch, btw who won 15 grand slams in the history of tennis and counting, you cant have to much luck to win 15 grand slams, you know that?

  • wow why are you getting so angry? you dont think it was a little lucky that when roddick had moment when he was a set and beak up the rain started to pour? and he had time to think of a srategy?

  • @Currymastuh

Actually, Roddick was lucky: he had a coach to whom he could talk while the medias, if you remember well, said that Roger was in a bad situation having fired his coach...

There's an other time at the US Open where it also happened and he didn't have a coach. He was thinking alone, while Roddick had both himself and a coach - who, I have to remind you, is sitting in the crowd and thus has a better and complete view of the game.

  • wow at 1:35 federer hit a forehand winner, roddick hit quite a few himself, although they arent shown on this video, which is fine because its about federer, but just cuz federer can bang away winners like crazy on the forehand doesnt mean hes lucky

  • Federer got so LUCKY during this final its ridiculous, it's the same luck thats helped him throughout the course of his career, especially at wimbledon, for once the luck was with his opponenent and thats when he lost to his opponent nadal in 2008

  • I think it's more a case of "the more I practice, the luckier I get."

  • Yes he got lucky 15 times. That makes total sense... Not! Go fucking die, you fucking moron.

  • so again you dont think he was lucky to get that rain delay to help him regroup in this final?

and you dont think it was lucky in the 06/07 (one or the two i cant remeber) that nadal played 5-6 straight days while federer was relxing all that time elading up to the final?

if you dont think that's luck well then idk what to say

  • Nadal is a big boy, he knows what he's capable of. He sure doesn't need your pity. Just keep me amused by saying its luck. Seeing haters like you is entertaining.

  • im not a hater, roger isnt my favourite tennis player but i appreciate that because of him north american media mentions tennis, nadal played a part in it too but it was mainly roger. if you dont call those to siuations advantageous or lucky to federer -- which most certainly is the case-- then again, i dont know what to say

  • @Currymastuh

My friend, Roger's technic is a couple of level beyond anythign ever seen; all his trokes are accurate, powerful and effortless without mentionning that just behind Nadal, he leads for the spin rate (2700rpm for Rog's FH and 3000rpm for Nadal's For.).

His footwork is undoubtedly better than Nadal's and he doesn't damage his body while he plays.

Mentally, when you win 15 titles, you have shown you are able to play under pressure.

  • @Currymastuh

Perhaps some situations may have come to be helpful to him, but from what is shown here, his game is better than Nadal's and it's probably the best game in tennis history, far ahead of his nearest follower champion, Pete Sampras.

I speak of biomechanics, energy efficiency and there has never been a player this much elegant on the court.

Numbers, looks, results and his game shows that he is ahead of any player you can think of.

  • @Currymastuh

Nadal is surely the best player you can find to play gainst Roger; I have not seen any other able to play against Federer and win.

And, if you want some of Nadal's words, he said something like that about Roger:

"If he plays good, I have to play incredible; if he plays incredible, then it's impossible: no one can beat Federer when he plays like that."

  • these highlights are bullshit. it doesnt show one shot roddick made

  • right. I was looking for the videos "Federer, beauty points" there used to be tons of matches with only the points of Federer, I guess they are all deleted now.

  • he got suspended the guy who made them

  • damm

  • these are federer highlights. the title says king of grass. that's federer. not roddick.

  • it stands king of grass first, thats means highlights frome the king of crass :)

  • grass*

  • the end is amazing!!!!

  • roddick was coming back strong the second set

  • come on show some of Roddicks good points

  • wtf 1.40???

    just sick

  • Didn't Roddick win any point?

  • he almost won the match but this video is bias towards federer

  • ...did you not see the scores?

  • Look at how 99.99% of Andy Roddick's return of serve hits go to the middle.

Roddick has really improved on 2009s Wimbeldon getting the ball away from the middle. That's how he was close to the title but somehow Fed found the answer like he always does.

  • i really think roddick should have won

he was SO CLOSE if you think about it

    i have the match dvred

roddick served so bomb but stillmessed up alot in the last tiebreak/last set

  • yeah good point

but look at federer's improvement aswell frm back then

  • Without Nadal it will be less competitive, but never boring... Just watching Federer against a wall is beautiful :P

  • imagine how boring tennis would be if there was no nadal to keep federer competitive

  • Nadal wasn't at Wimbledon this year and you can't say the final wasn't boring.

  • Just watched this match in full again and I can safely say that both Roger and Andy played MUCH better here than in 2009. They were both hitting superb groundshots, having great rallies, great volleying, exquisite serving, etc.

The 2009 match was 80-90% about the serve and while it went to 5 sets, the quality of the 2004 match was vastly superior imo.

  • Keep in mind that although the match was more fun to watch, the reason was because the serves and groundstrokes were considerably slower (due to recent shwers that dampened the grass) , and allowed for better rallies. The 2009 epic, played on much dryer grass allowed for hellacious speeds off of the bounce.

  • Not in my opinion. The grounstrokes seemed to be actually FASTER in 2004 but at the time, Roger was 22 and Andy was 21. Now they are 28 and 27 respectively. Big difference.

  • I agree, the condition´s were pretty fast at the 2009 wimbledon final..

  • Where did you watch this match in full?

  • Live on BBC when it was first aired and now again on DVD which I purchased from a private individual.

  • was it from matt hughes?

  • No, it wasn't

  • Being young is a beautiful thing, Nadal should enjoy the advantage he has over Federer before it disapears in the next 2 years.

  • if nadal can even play 2 more slams with those knees...

  • So... who's the king of clay?

    Rafa?

  • Not unless he reclaims his Roland Garros next year.

  • I am a federer fan, but showing winners from roddick is not a bad idea, is it?

  • Totally agree.

I dislike videos that shows favoritism to one player.

  • @fedthebest1 yeah! especially since Roddick won the first set

  • i mean this years final not 2004 lol

  • federe is gd but im a roddick fan and i must admit federe looked realy edgy against him

  • yeah, he was looking a little awkward
