A lot of the cars in the "cash for clunkers" weren't.They are melting down all the engines as we speak.You could have spent 4000$ on upgrades to a car to make it more fuel effecient.Meaning injectors,intake systems,exhaust systems and such could have raised mpg by 5-10 and made the car more powerful.A lot of the stuff on cars today are for comfort not economy. If you got rid of comfort (sound insealation) you could get the 5-10 mpg out of a car and make it more powerful and last longer.
Well that's not what most people wanted. Who would logically dump 4 grand into a car and hope for fuel econ.? Especially since a lot (not all) of the clunkers were just that, shit. And Horseshit... Removing 20, 30 lb.'s of "sound Insulation" wouldn't give you shit for improving your cars mpg. And who wants to hear road noise in their luxury car going down the interstate? Fuckin truck.. rip the shit out but yer V-8, hopefully... wont care if it's missing 20 pounds or a thousand.
See, they gave their camaros so they'd be destroyed. Now THAT's ruining it, modifying it like this is not.
I agree that they could spend 4 grand to make it more efficient, but it still wouldn't be all that good. You can buy a Turbo for 4 grand and install it yourself and hope for about 4mpg and 100hp gain. When you think about it it's well worth the total of 10 grand it'd cost.
But it still wouldn't be as good as a modern car, the new LS3 is 400hp and gets 26mpg reliably.

Well that's not what most people wanted. Who would logically dump 4 grand into a car and hope for fuel econ.? Especially since a lot (not all) of the clunkers were just that, shit. And Horseshit... Removing 20, 30 lb.'s of "sound Insulation" wouldn't give you shit for improving your cars mpg. And who wants to hear road noise in their luxury car going down the interstate? Fuckin truck.. rip the shit out but yer V-8, hopefully... wont care if it's missing 20 pounds or a thousand.

See, they gave their camaros so they'd be destroyed. Now THAT's ruining it, modifying it like this is not.
I agree that they could spend 4 grand to make it more efficient, but it still wouldn't be all that good. You can buy a Turbo for 4 grand and install it yourself and hope for about 4mpg and 100hp gain. When you think about it it's well worth the total of 10 grand it'd cost.
But it still wouldn't be as good as a modern car, the new LS3 is 400hp and gets 26mpg reliably.
