Im sorry, maybe its people I've had both generations of the clix, but this is a pathetic excuse for a successor. I really dont see the point of the L player, really a step down for iriver, very dissapointing.

One thing they don't tell you in the documentation: there are two file system modes, one of them sucks (I think it's called USM?) and sadly it's the default. That is the first thing you want to set - it reformats the flash memory and makes the device show up as a standard USB mass storage "drive". You can drag and drop either way though.

Don't know about the background, it doesn't bother me so I haven't looked into changing it. There are two visual themes, but they both have a blue bg.

my iriver e1D was keep freezing on me so pressed the reset button. but now when I turn it on i get a msg to update the player but i don't know how. Do how to do that? Is there a website i can go to? thanks

Not true, the view shown is just the one I prefer. There are several options, including full id tag support and album covers. You can even rate songs with the player!
