  • I write poetry, I sing, I act, I sew, I paint

  • I have no arrest record, no drugs, no alcohol, no mental health issues, therapists call me an inspiration, I have low blood pressure, I don't complain, my child loves me and calls me "mama": a student. best kid ever, ----- cause looking this way no one will knock me up.

  • amazingggggg Aretha was just so an exceptional woman !!! wouuuuuuuuuuh swing!

  • Wrote by the BIG Don Covay.

  • Great piece of music history seeing Aretha live. For certain most live gigs can only / are best appreciated when you are there. Watching a video like this, if you weren't there, is a bit like kissing your sister ! Listen to the studio recording - preferably in a club - if you want to get what it's all about.

    cheers,

    Denny

  • she is awesome

  • You know you need to have finals end and have no life when you think this relates to the chain rule in calculus.

  • who the hell is saying Aretha is ugly? she may not be STUNNING but she's perfectly pretty. some people have weird perceptions of what beauty is.

  • chain of fools- resale of the streets- ghet a grip on this rim job- which is a blow job in the heat you betcha- roll it into the hangman 12- for men smoothed out. (men muted from angels?) ps next and hopefully last-fire and ice dont know who sings it pat benetar? NO someone else a little obscure group

  • anyone judging a singer on their looks is a moron . . . it's the voice and only the voice that counts.

  • What a voice! What talent!! That's why I don't watch American Idol etc. Who can compete with this? I would say only 1 in 1000.....REAL talent!

  • hey what year was this?

  • bellissima canzone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • She was and always will be one of the greatest talents we ever had. Why argue about it? Enjoy it.

  • i dont know why people always talking about looks.... that is why our music today is so much garbage and the real singers cant get a chance to sing nowadays cause its all about looks ....

  • @Tamesha1

    You're absolutely right.

  • Great song, great singer. There's a few who can match her, but there's none better.

  • I think she has a beautiful voice she may not look perfect in the eyes of everyone .But anyone who can sing like her, has a INTER BEAUTY . Just because something don't look perfect on the outside don't mean they don't have a heart of gold on the inside. This is my favorite song.

  • Awesome. One of the queens of soul. I say this because I love Tina Turner as well...

  • this goes to my friend Michelle

  • Beautiful Voice And A Beautiful Woman.

  • Barbra Streisand? Are you kidding me? She has a beautiful voice, sure. But, come on. No one even comes close to Aretha. Every female singer since then has tried to sound just like Aretha, not Barbra. To be honest, they have different styles. It is apples and oranges to some degree...except that we all know Aretha is the best., not just the best American singer.

  • oh.. I always thought it was "change a fool" for some reason.

  • i love this song!

  • ooph ! LEGEND.

  • She's amazing!

  • The absolute greatest female singing voice that has ever graced the planet earth!

  • @deeway1963 that would be Barbra Streisand

  • @stevesg92 Totally agree with you there stevesg92. However, Aretha, is the greatest African-American singing voice ever to grace the plant earth...in my humble opinion, that is. Peace! =)

  • Dont u mean Ken~Barbie ??

  • There are some songs nobody else can sing, even for Bette!

  • @supermandisco once again.... Barbra Streisand.

  • sorry, but the audio quality is horrible.I know it's original, but not worth saving. Too many others out here that are much better.

  • LoL it soun better in 240p

  • I love me some Aretha Franklin

  • ARETHA IS A GODDESS OF SONG. XD ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Chaim Levine. He needs to watch the movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact. And the X-Files movie I Want To Believe. And Woody Allen's movie Everyone Says I Love You, the film where Drew Barrymore makes the comment that humans control nothing.

  • R-e-s-p-e-c- t to you AREhTa!!!!

  • You know what, she's big but she's more famous than any of y'all and she SURE KNOWS HOW TO FUCKIN SING that's what matters.

  • oh my goodness, nice pipes tamika!

  • listen here chuckmcfinley she cant help she big now she has diabetes and that is an illness i have a 6 yr old son that has that and you do gain weight from having diabetes even if you do manage it so before you cap on someone i would think about it first !!!!!!!!!!!

  • someone fix the audio por favor..

  • She is AWESOME! and love the choreography! sixtylicious!

  • Check out Big Mama Thornton and Buddy guy; for a big woman: while your at it check out Big Mama Thornton Hound dog and make sure you see a live performance where she is wearing a Plaid shirt, there is another from the same show where her and five guys each with their own technique on the harp, she also plays harp on that, it's called Hometown get down or something like that. Very sexy woman for sure.

    CMVHighPriest

  • @ChuckMcFinley - you are no prick, pal. Enjoy life!

  • @ChuckMcFinley - she is going to se Jesus face to face when she leaves. How about you?

  • Why do people have to comment on her size & shit ? Its about the music & the fact that Arthea Franklin has one of the most powerful voices! Not to mention this song kicks ass!

  • why don't people understand that as long as you try to judge musical artists by their appearance you will be listening to garbage? Was Aretha Franklin one of the best looking women of her time, well no. She only had "the voice of God", but that was enough to sell records. video really did kill the radio star

  • @farneyblakeley

    But, she wasn't actually ugly.....

  • Comment removed

  • @farneyblakeley I agree with you. I think the only great singer who benefitted from video exposure is Whitney. Although she wasn't as great as Aretha, her image on screen did enhance her powerful vocals. She would've been big before videos. But they magnified her success. Most of the others who came out after her couldn't sing but were very camera-friendly.

  • @farneyblakeley Hear Hear. If Sheryl Crowe looked like Janis Joplin, we would never have heard of her.

  • @JohnABoy1 actually girls aloud had quite a few dope singles

  • @farneyblakeley By 1970 she was looking pretty tasty in my opinion; I don't think we should be to sanctimonious about all this, looking like he did didn't do Elvis any harm or Hendrix or Morrison etc etc.....but where today's music business is concerned I do agree with you.

  • @farneyblakeley ya no shit man, just seeing comments about adele or any larger woman it's pathetic. Lord above this is the world we live in, and apparantly we have to share it with judgemental bastards that judge purely over appearance...

  • @farneyblakeley video killed the radio star

    video killed the radio star

pictures came and broke your heart

we can't rewind we've gone too far

Aretha est la plus grande des chanteuses soul. Sa voix se rapproche de la perfection et n' a aucune égale exceptés Diana et Donna.

God Save The Queen Of Soul

  • @peterjacquesband T'as oublié Judy Clay et Teena Marie egalement

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN.

    DOT!

  • What was this record released? I love the song!

  • Sound quality is whack. I just came from Eva Cassidy's version. She pays a great tribute to Lady Soul. It is so crisp and the video is excellent. We know who the MASTER is, but I will give Eva a nod cause she really does tear it up. Love you Aretha your music is the song track of my life and I would imagine every woman on this earth!

  • hey 19, thats Aretha Franklin

  • Back then, she could serve as the definition of "pleasantly plump"! She's adorable!! And the BEST female vocalist ever!

  • My Prayers are with you Aretha. The GREATEST Singer of ALL-TIME!

  • 8 people are a chain of fools.

  • @a1d2h Since you are fans of Aretha and Ella, check out Mahalia Jackson. She's okay too.

  • As much as I like Aretha, Ella Fitzgerald has my vote for best vocalist in any genre.

  • @CrazyBlackGuy11 Bitch fuck you and stop bitching over old shit! It happen almost 3 years ago. GET OVER IT SHIT!

  • @CrazyBlackGuy11 When Beyonce can sing like Aretha, get back to me.

  • @droopusmaximus How about one fo the finest singers to ever grace the chess label?

    Etta James

  • @Freyja1133 Hey, she did a good job, but Beyonce's "At Last" was not quite up to Etta. Just my opinion...

  • @droopusmaximus But they did have to take the song in to a higher range& key for Beyonce... She did a wonderful job with singing at last

Byt he way,did you know that the original version was recorded by Glen Miller?

  • @CrazyBlackGuy11 Dumb ass do you know who your mocking?

  • She´s so talented!

  • The greatest singer that has ever lived... barr none. That's the way it is.

  • @teden20 Yup.

  • i listen to metal but this is knarly sick

  • i luv this freaking song especially when roller skating and i am jus 16

  • Another unforgettable song from one of the godmothers of soul.

  • @mssusan1961 ...One of the godmothers??

That is the understatement of the year.

She is so far ahead of her female counterparts it's crazy.

  • soooo damn good I can't stop listening to it.

  • Goddess...

  • there is always somebody that knows more but is gagged.

  • The bass player was bangin it...

  • Man How I Love Her :)

    Our Queen Of Soul :)

  • Carolyn Franklin & The Sweet Inspirations on background vocals.

  • Carolyn Franklin & The Sweet Inspirations on background vocals.

  • ti amo arethaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • RIP out the lungs Aritha!!!!!!!!!!! Make souls fro grow!!

  • @60sdude u spelled aretha wrong Lol

  • @leolee1020 , Please remember that "Aretha" is in fact a proper noun. Please remember to capitalize all proper nouns

  • watch?v=x18zI1sZcow

  • hey this is a great version from a male german Singer check this myspace,com/bobbywhiteone

  • Just a side note: Don't you just love the choreography? This was the hallmark of very early (50's) music, which was the first and only real "rock n roll." What is called rock n roll today is actually "rock." Not the same as Little Richard, The Bobettes, Danny and The Juniors, and a jillion others. Inductees into the rock n roll hall of fame today are not the real deal, but if you aren't an old guy like me, you wouldn't know the difference. Some good music, just not "rock n roll" that's all.

  • The choreography, the girls, the "doop doop doop", the musical reinforcement of singer's delivery "Yes, yes, yes" - "No, no, no" - fantastic! My heart always skips a beat when I walk into a show and I see two or three mikes for the backup singers :-) I was mesmerised (like everyone else) by the backup singers at the two Steely Dan concerts I saw - trust the Dan to bring that touch of R&R glamour and taste into their shows :-)

  • wow myspace,com/bobbywhiteone check this

  • Mercy kind of sounds like her in a big way with the song , release me .

  • Britney Spears said during an interview 3 days ago she would have LOVED this song to be hers. Well, she has good taste =)

  • Cupcake brown i get reminded this of

  • does anyone know the tabs for this song?!!?

  • Amazingly, this is one of the only pop songs in history that has only one chord - C minor.

  • @mizzterE Actually, I hear a "Major 3rd (E)" in the horn line. It appears that the rhythm section has omitted the 3rd scale degree. One cannot determine if it is in a minor or major key, but the horn line told the truth.

  • The bass line doesn't change once, except to introduce C. Aretha is singing on the Eflat blues scale..how did you hear an E?

  • I agree - one of the horns is hitting an E natural repeatedly. The alternation between Cm7 and C7 is subtle and gives the tune more bite and interest anyway (this effect reminds me of the opening of Thus Spake Zarathustra, as

popularized by the King :-)). Sliding into the occasional maj 3rd in a min7 situation on your way to the m3rd or 4th is always a good move :-)

  • Also the backup singers seem to me to be singing a C maj triad on the ooh -ooh ooh stabs (for instance at 1'05), but this just reinforces the power of the C m7 when it comes back (for example at 1.21 - listen to the trumpets - Cm at 1.21 and then Cmaj at 1.25 - the Zarathustra effect :-)

    You're dead right lches335!!!

  • your right... Its just C blues... whole song is basically a big C7#9. Has E and Eb. So its Cmin blues scale same as Eb blues scale over a C7#9 blues chord... our ear doesnt hear it as major and back to minor, like some are saying. Its just messin around on a C dominant blues.

  • I'd say Aretha shares queen throne with her sister Erma. I can't say who's better

  • love this woman

  • @marianokass VERY VERY WELL SAID...

  • grande aretha

  • true slient and steve

  • Patti= QUEEN OF SCREAMING AND YELLING

Aretha= QUEEN OF VOCALS AND SOUL

  • I love Aretha but I heard she is very Nasty and mean I hope this isnt true

  • If that's what ya consider fat....I'll take it! :-) I think she was pretty damned HOT!

  • @TheHEARSEDRIVER People of girth survive when ecoli and mad cow kill off the rest of the planet.

  • @TheHEARSEDRIVER back in the day women with curves and a healthy body were sexy. Marilyn Monroe wore a size 12 dress and a size 8 pants, not sizes 2 or 0.

  • @ddpl365

A real woman should not ever be measured by her size but by her heart.

  • @ddpl365 ...because curvy women are so reviled nowadays?

  • Hurting people hurt people, that is a fact. Your negative comments mean nothing to her, for she is a legend. I pray and hope those of you making negative comments one day feel better deep down into your core, your roots than what you feel today. This is a free country so say and write what you feel. Sometimes it hard to appreciate goodness when your life is awful and pitiful.

  • This is so very true. However, in the Afr. Amer. culture there has been generations of pain and hurt passed down, and a whole lot of it hasn't been discussed as it is nowadays. It hasn't been processed in the positive, bringing positive results, healed lives and restored self worth, individually and as a group. This needs to be factored in. Forgiveness and mercy need to be given in huge amounts. None of us is perfect, though talented and incredibly gifted. The woman has a voice!

  • Aretha Franklin...you got soul. Skinny, fat, slender, bony, full figure...beautiful, pretty, gorgeous, ugly, and super ugly what ever your case and others...Aretha Franklin you sing so well. She is alive and not dead so we shall honor her, as many are doing Micheal Jackson for he is now dead.

  • Then y listen to it! You Fool!

  • That's your opinion. Billions of other people think differently.

  • her name is Tomika, not 'fat girl'.

  • I'm sorry, but Aretha is the Queen of Soul and can sing a hell of a lot better then everyone I've heard. So you can't be one to judge. Take your negative comments and take them somewhere else because they're not needed here.

  • i dont know about everyone...

shes can keep up with janis i think, altought i prefer janis' blues..

    great vid

  • Waaaww.. Chain of foolss

  • chain chain chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!!!!!!

  • fab track with great footage

  • mrs soul one brill singer

  • check out christina christofi singing chain of fools at the age of 13

  • i love her dress;)!!

  • the sound on this isnt the best

  • I'd agree but you can still hear it. The reason is because its a TV broadcast.

  • This concert is taken from a swedish tv broadcast when Aretha Franklin and her band visited Sweden back in 1968. They re-run the whole concert on swedish tv nine years ago. Fantastic concert. I have it on videotape unfortunately. It was a very special moment for her because His Royal Highness crown prince Carl Gustaf was in the audience later Carl XVI Gustaf King of Sweden.

  • this is a very rare video!!! how did you get this?

  • this is the best song ever

  • ALL HAIL THE QUEEN OF SOUL!

I was there in the mid sixties . . . heard it and felt it very well.

But never saw this video. It is further proof of Aretha's mastery of the art form.

Aretha Franklin. The Queen of Soul.

  • Solid voice. She roxx!

  • Aretha at her best. The unedited version on "Lady Soul" is my favorite.

  • The real Queen of Soul! Love it!

  • Listen to it in Stereo. A classic!
