Hi all! Thanks for enjoying my video! I would like to add, that these babies were only out to play for a few minutes, and give mom a break. This was NOT their cage. They had a nice cage with plenty of cozy, warm hiding places!
Aww this reminds me of the time my rat had babies. I had no idea there were babies until I went to clean the cage and my own rat shot her head out of the news paper pile and bit me, lol! Of course I forgave her and she eventually trusted me with her babies =)
@sophsincolour I handle mine from about 2 days old to condition them. In my experience it's perfectly harmless. From that early I just hold them in threes or fours for maybe 20 seconds and pop them back, mother just takes them right in, gives them a lick and settles down. Once they get a little fur I hold them a bit longer.
Hi, I just had a question and thought you would be a good person to ask about. After a mom has a litter, how long does the baby(s) have to stay with the mom for milk till they can survive on their own. My teacher let me watch her mice and they gave birth and she said i could keep the babbys but i don't know how long they need to be with their mother before i return the mom back to her. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
@RatsMyHeart it's more of a warmth issue..since they dont have their full pelt they cannot hold heat well... they're curious about their surroundings.
Can I guess some of their names? Brutus, Justin, Jenner, Nicodemus, etc. Hope you get it. :-) Pretty rats. They're too smart for me, too. Tried to catch a wild one in a trap. Kept coming home to snapped traps and not so much as a hair stuck in the trap. The rat finally got bored and left my soap alone. Why do they chew soap, anyway? :-\
I kind of know this feeling all so well, we have bought 5 babies from a breeder, and have had two surprises, and waiting to see if there will be a 3rd surprise, and the babies was 5 days apart in age, well the ones who are 19 days old today, so they are all doing the same thing.
Just to get the word out, I own my very own rat Sanctuary, if any rat needs a home, contact me! I am located in Herriman, Utah, in the Salt Lake Valley. All i require is for you to come to me! Drop offs are accepted!
