Id love to see inside them! Its such a shame blimps/Zeppelins never progressed onwards, they are something spectacular to look at! Just like the hangers, pretty sure they are all redwood as framing as well
During World War II, a Navy anti-submarine airship base (later to become a Marine Corps helicopter station) was established in unincorporated land south of the city; the two blimp hangars are among the largest wooden structures ever built and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and ASCE List of Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks. - source: wikipedia
blimp hanger,we have one here in san jose called moffet field, basiclly the same shape as that one but less fortified looking. Now Ames research center for nasa.
I have a urban exploration page on facebook you guys can check it out if you want it called Urban explorers of slo county like our page if you like it.

MCAS Tustin. I attended motor transport school that WTS-37 operated from one of these hangers. Tustin was a fling wing (helicopter) base. This was a really cool air station to be at when I was there in 1977. Very low key and easy to walk to town. I later spent my enlistment tour at MCAS El Toro. Thanks for the video, the place looks good.
It was MCAS Tustin. (Marine Corps Air Station). I lived in the house directly to the left of the secondary entrance many years ago. They put blimps and helicopters in them.
What's so weird about them? They were originally made to house and service airships/blimps. Helicopters were towed into the building they never flew in.
No wonder you can't get work. You are DUMB! DURRRRRRRRR!
Those blimp hangers are landmarks that EVERYONE knows about. "DURRRR! FOUR STORIES TALL!" Idiot. Try 18 stories tall! And no, they're not "abandoned." They're just not used to hangar blimps or helicopters anymore.
VIDEOING WHILE DRIVING WILL GET YOU AN EXPENSIVE TICKET.
THIS WAS THE HOME OF THE 3RD MARINE AIR WING, CH-46 HELICOPTERS AND THE CH- 53 ECHO THAT WAS KNOWN AS MCAS TUSTIN, THE HANGERS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY FO HISTORICAL LAND MARKS, THEY WERE BUILT DURING WW2 FOR THE OBSERVATION BLIMPS. HOW DO I KNOW THIS, I WAS STATIONED THERE FROM 88' TO 92'
It used to be a base for goodyear blimps. It was right across from the old El Toro marine corp air station. I went to 2 airshows their in the late 70's.
@DetoxMansion It was never a "base for goodyear blimps". they used the facility to service there blimps from time to time. El Toro is 10 miles away not across from.
@barriobajaj I may have been mistaken it was over 30 years ago. Im so sorry for apparently upsetting you so. Here's some advice, why dont you make an appointment with a proctologist and have him pull the corn cob out of your ass!
@DetoxMansion It's been 45 years for me and I still remember it being a Marine Base. I don't think you should have bothered detoxing. Your brain damage seems permanent. Better a corncob than the big dicks you've been sitting on all your life. I'm not upset but it's quite obvious you are.
they used to store ufos in them. haha. are you from oc? how could you not know what they are. like the one guy said, they are old airship hangers that housed airships that patrolled the west coast during wwII. i believe they were the largest wood structures in the world at the time they were built. it was used as a helicopter base for the marines in modern time. ive seen commercial blimps stored in one of the hangers as late as 2006
apparently the city has decided to tear down the buildings completely, regardless of the fact that it has been marked a historical landmark in the building and engineering category by the us historic society -_-. i'll have to see it before it goes
This is a hangar for blimps building in 1943 this was a marine Corp base and it was abandon in 1997 for the marines in 1997 but this buildings still in used for blimps and movie studio
These are not blimp hangers, it is where I grow all my weed so stay out!

It is a World War II blimp hanger. Each hanger held seven blimps. The blimps patrolled the Pacific Ocean and were used for spotting submarines.
