  • DAMMIT OPETH!!! TEACH ME THE SECOND HALF!!!! lol.

  • I miss peter so fucking much

  • They said they'd stick to death metal vocals.......

  • an opeth album with loomis solos would be interesting, or a jeff loomis album with mellow opeth parts and mikael vocals (clean brutal) would be very interesting too...

  • prolly get some **** for this but, Jeff loomis, altho i am a big nevermore fan and even his solo album was killer, but i like Opeth solos are better than loomis. Loomis is too all over the place for me and i find them emotionless for the most part. Not doggin on his talent, the guy is amazing player. But Opeth's solos are so melodic and I think they are doing it right.

  • Mendez looks so bored for me xD

  • "No words, it's just AAAH!!" That's pretty much it xD

  • i loved the final comments

this is for sure one of the greatest bands of all time, and they are there for their unique style and because they keep exploring without forgetting their roots

  • go jeff loomis and opeth!

  • I usually ay that "ahh, aaahhh, ahhhhhoooohhooooohh!" part when I ride roller coasters going through loops, eyes closed, breeze on my skin. :) Epic stuff gentlemen.

  • they left out the best riff in the song!

  • If there's anything worth worshiping in this world, it's whatever muse inspires Akerfeldt.

  • finally a video where i can watch mikael's fingers when he plays the solo... almost all the live videos dont show the actual guitar playing on the parts i wanna see them play

  • The Drapery Falls might be one of the most underrated songs of all time. The creativity and the dynamics behind the track is simply amazing. So is the rest of Blackwater Park as well...

  • Excellent use of Squier Bass

  • " its a new solo :D"

  • I love that Mike references Jeff Loomis XD

  • haha sweet me too I just noticed that lol nice :D

  • "You would have been a lot more famous or whatever... But we didn't, you know, we love this." And that, dear YouTubers, is why I also love this; they're being thoroughly non-mainstream.

  • If I were stranded on an island forever and I could only bring ONE band to listen to, it'd be Opeth; the whole discography. They have so much variety and so much soul within every note they play. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be reserved for musicians like them.

  • lol Mike is too humble.

  • "It's just.. 'Aaah..'."

  • Really great interview, it's interesting seeing the 3 members that made opeth what they are today in the same room clearly enjoying being a band.

  • @ the end Mendez wearing a JD shirt

  • I like how they are so modest.

Very skillful band. They are my inspiration!

  • "We like solos too! But we're no Jeff Loomis"

    Haha, ^_^

  • when they start jamming and playing the solo part you can really tell how awesome they are

    incredible

  • i agree they are absoloutly incredible.

and they obviously get along very well together as a band and it shows in their music.

  • Åkerfeldt plays the guitar really good, the riffs that Opeth creates always give me something...they can remeber me a place..a feeling..and alot more. I like this of Opeth , they're absolutely fantastic!!

  • Mikael shits on every ones face.

  • slipknot doesn't exist.

  • it's probably the 80's squier bass series

  • Akerfeldt is the David Gilmour of Metal.

  • that solo sounds amazing even on his jazzy sounding guitar.

  • Is Mikael missing his beard there?

  • yes

  • I'd be pissed if I had to play a squier bass.

  • haha i got a squier from my friend for 20 bucks. it sucks

  • YEah, cant he afford a real bass? lol that's what little kids start off with when their parents don't want to spend much money on them :)

  • im pretty shure it was just the people who did the cameras just gave them instruments to use

  • You are exactly right.... Mikael play a Telecaster!?!?! lol Peter ever playing a flying V?!?! lmfao, none of those instruments fit them!

  • Mikael loves tele's actually

  • Why should a "Squier" bass be bad?

    It's also from "Fender".

  • let us all boycott slipknot!

  • FUCK SLIPKNOT.

Åkerfeldt should teach them a lesson.

  • im pretty shure all of us do that already

    =)

  • but they can creat mellodic riffs just like dat...mixing jazzy sounds...with latin and every kind of sound there is...remember bleak...had kind of an arabic riff at the beggining...or dammnation album...this whole mellow mood through it...that what makes em good

  • best guitar lesson. I wish they did this with many of their songs.

  • I feel bad for The bassist D: he looks bored and slightly pissed

  • " We like solos too but we are no Jeff Loomis "

    lol XD

  • Anyone know the tuning this song's in?

  • Standard

  • E Standard? really? thanks.

  • Standard tuning.

  • i checked out opeth about 2 months ago and now there fucking one of my favourite so clever musically

  • same here, approx 2-3 months ago, bought Blackwater Park at the suggestions of other Opeth fans, and they are one of my favorite bands.

  • HHA we're no 'Jeff Loomis' thats well funny

  • i wish he would make a tutorial on the web on how he growls...

  • It s not that difficult, with a bit of work, you can reach to that. I can, only by training on opeth' lyrics (on blackwater park).

You have to try not to scream. You must "shake" your throat without using the normal sounds for speaking; there is no voice at all, just the air passing trough your throat and making it tremble.

Sorry i cannot be more clear, this is a question of feeling, more than technic. Besides, im french, so its not that easy.

    Keep growling

  • corey doesn't growl xD he just screams lol

  • and slipknot fucking blows

  • slipknot is fucking retarded. so is korn.

  • i feel at home now lol

  • @8stringerr why r yu comparing Slipknot and Opeth !! their music is waaaaayyyy diffrent !!

  • @mizandmorrisonlol

slipknot comes when a guy who doesn't know metal enters in metal conversations

  • @opethgarzaMD

I dont think so ! Slipknot didnt win a grammy by "not knowing" about metal

  • @mizandmorrisonlol

grammies are related with popularity and merchandising, it is not about music, your argument is completely the opposite of a guy that really listens to metal

  • @opethgarzaMD

People have different opinions ...Slipknot could have never come to this stage if they werent good!

  • @mizandmorrisonlol

your point has some understandable statement, but popularity isn't equal to quality

nowadays, most of the known "musicians" suck, even the ones that win grammies, not all of them, but most

and most of the real metalheads, dislike slipknot for some reason, and every guy that doesn't know real extreme metal make the mistake of mention slipknot in a metal video, and comment something about them in every metal video

that's sheep acting in my opinion

  • I watched your videos, you sound nothing like him. Are you trying to say a joke or something?

  • ok...im not gonna try t prove anything t you...i just said what they telling me...and if u wanna know at video u saw thats NOTHING man.....and its recorded by a cell fone..what u expect t sound man???Xaxa...this videos is with my stupid friends some mornings....whatever.......maybe im a dreamer but im not the only one...::P

  • dream on, dream on.

  • my favourite band :]

    I just love Opeth ^^

i want them to play in poland! ^^

  • well duh, they ARE great! (sort of pr0n for manyMANY people)

  • Its an awesome guitar, very good to play on..

  • Hum, Mendez seemed to be so booooored... Poor he, his bass is never showed !

  • hehe, right. 2:45 is great. "are we done yet?"

  • it looks like a squire by fender

    what the heck?!?

thats like a dime a dozen bass

shouldent he be rocking something a bit more

    classy?

  • its a 70's strat I believe

  • What's this lesson from?

  • what do u mean?

  • What video is this interview from?

  • as he says at start, guitar dot com, guitar . com :)

  • @DerPrinz one would gather its from guitar.com

  • ha!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, I really wanted to see the 'Spiral into the ground below' bit.

  • that part is Dm chord and C chord, if you don't know these they are, C: fret 0 on high E, fret 1 on B, fret 0 on G, fret 2 on D, and fret 3 on A. For Dm: it's string hig E fret 1, string B; fret 3, string G fret 2, and if you like you can use the open D with it. You can figure the pattern out yourself

  • yeah! fuc.k being famous. keep that sound pumping, opeth.

  • this song is sexy

  • mann oete had to go leave them=[

  • i love how opeth knows how to hit the right wrong notes.

and also mikael's winding octave progessive solos. Slidin'

  • 'tis called dissonance

  • "People started complaining all the time, they wanted more solos, and we like solos too, but we're no Jeff Loomis..."

    dude opeth solos are great.

  • yeah they are, but i swear opeth has more musical knowledge than nevermore (at least loomis cause hes self taught!)

  • martin use a squier precision bass...strange but cool

  • of course, no doubt about ot, well said... STICK TO IT... akerfeldt vocals are marvelous, I wish I could scream at least kind of near as he does, anyways... Opeth are killers creating music.

  • Wow, it's great to know someone feels the exact same way I feel about something like a certain artist or music. Fuckin' A. Rock on.

  • i was a opeth love fan until i saw micheal's lecherous affinity w/fat chicks live...wait....um...jk

  • Don't these guys ever wear something besides black? I find it so strange that so many metallers wear almost nothing but plain, black clothes, black clothes with band logos or simple print/logos on them and camo cargos. Anyone else feel the same? I mean, what's so bad about a yellow-striped polo shirt or something?

  • because metal isnt about image, its about the music. black doesnt portray an image because they dress the same so its more about the music.

that and polo shirts are gay.

  • Maybe dressing all in black portrays an image. Ever think of that?

Polos shirts are not gay. You are mistaken.

  • sorry, but when i see men in yellow striped polo shirts its such a turnoff.. i`m gonna have to agree with du

  • Well, fine, you don't like yellow polos. What about something like an orange t-shirt?

  • Much of Opeth's stuff is gothic in nature, both in melody and lyrics. So, naturally, to fit that style of music they wear black clothing.

  • Meh, they can still wear non-black clothes OFF stage.

  • I can't picture them wearing anything else.

  • that is rather a matter of habitude and a little bit of marketing technique we can say.

  • "were no jeff loomis" lol

  • i find most of thier stuff easy.. like thier minor chords and riffs..but some of thier solos andsoft breaks can be tricky but nothing a little practice cant do..:)

  • Not to start shit with you, but I would just like to add that this obviously isn't the most technical guitar work like a shredder thing but the sheer genius, creativity and originality in it is just astounding. Opeth are one of the few artists who can play one of those "strumming" songs that I will find interesting as opposed to the numerous other, dime-a-dozen rockers that do something along the lines that I find just stock and boring. I hope you know what I mean! Anyway, great shit.

  • It's so hard =/

  • awesome stuff!! im a new fan!!

  • Opeth = The best

  • why is there no comments? there the best

  • yes, why?

  • ^^ soul food ^^
