Unfortunately the more linux versuins get "user firendly" the crappier the experience and the more time you spend fixing bugs. Frankly i gave it up after years of use because it just wasted too much of your time.
The most professional programs on Linux I found in audio editing and music making. they are amazingly good. And if you make music, I would definitely give Linux a try.
I must admit, the community of Linux is very good. You post your question in a forum, or news groups or anywhere else in the comnuity, you are almost guaranteed a good and usefull answer very quickly.
It's just that Linux is not for you, if you do not want to tinkle (if that is the word). The majority of Windows users would not like it, because they are used to letting the OS decide for them what to do, and in Linux you have the full control yourself.
Is linux perfect? No. But can it be a really viable alternative? YES. Guess what! If I have a problem with my linux machine, I go on a forum, and I can get answers to my question in as little as half an hour. While I wait, I can go elsewhere and work on other things. And a lot of these guys KNOW what they're talking about. I don't pay money to sit on a phone line for 2 hours, I post, read, troubleshoot, and solve my issue. Easy as pi.
I saw this way back in the day, today I was trying to compile a game and I had to check my libraries were up to date, then I had to run a bunch of scripts and it reminded me of this video so here I am...a Super Villain.
I think Linux Mint is way easier to use for new people than Linux Ubuntu ... flash play and video drives, codec all come installed in Linux Mint even Compiz Fusion is already installed... But I Like Ubuntu it's what I'm using right now...
That's awfully presumptuous. You assume that because I do not like Linux that I must therefore not know anything about it or the array of devices that use variations of Linux however you have absolutely no evidence of this.
your right that was awfully presumptuous of you to say that if you have Linux and are smart enough to use it to the fullest that it is somehow a fail. windows users are like children pointing at the picture wall not knowing how or why they just like the pretty colors.....
Windows would be a good platform if they would take...say XP and develop it to its fullest instead of putting band-aids on broken stuff and advertise it doesn't have the problem.
I suppose there is a reason you call yourself "VillageIdiot8055"; perhaps it has something to do with your complete lack of reading comprehension. You're offended by what I've said but unfortunately my statement doesn't given you any insight regarding my technical ability or even how I came to my conclusion thus you resort to making things up.
YOU should call yourself the village idiot cause again you acted like a left leaning fool by attacking me and running around the point to avoid the question and try to divert and deflect stupidity in a different direction.....
so i ask again how does running Linux put you on the " fail train that is Linux " because if you are trying to say that Linux is a lesser OS than windows you are sadly mistaken and i will question your lack of quality judgment in making sound decisions....
Your reaction is hilarious since you initially insulted me and now you try to play the victim.
How is Linux a failure? Have you ever looked at commercial ventures that deal solely with Linux? There aren't very many of them and they aren't making that much money. Linux as a platform offers horrible backwards compatibility and lacks cohesion. Meaning it is not very appealing to ISVs. Linux is basically a pot-luck dinner. You get some nice parts but as a whole it's lackluster.
Linux is by far the most backwards compatible operating system in existence, you can litteraly compile 15 year old code and just run it, as if nothing happened.. Now I'd like to see how many of the win95 apps still work in windows 7..
That's a very uninformed statement. Whether or not it works depends highly on how you compile it and whether or not you have access to fifteen year old dependencies. Sure, your hello world program will probably compile and run--which is true on Windows as well--but more complicated programs will most likely not. Then of course you ignore the amazing amount of backwards compatibility Windows has. I can install a wide array of software that is ten to twenty years old but of course, not all.
Well, let's say that I don't want to "evolve", let's say I like some particular piece of software that's not being currently maintained or proves too difficult to port. Then it's pretty damn bad. It's about choice, and freedom.
Of course it's a matter of choice, everyone is free to use whatever software they choose.
I mean... in 2009 I was running XP X64 Pro till 7 Ultimate X64 came along and I had no problems all year long. On the other side, a good friend of mine who loves Linux put a lot of work into his machines running all sorts of distros and they still don't run right.
That's just a random fact :)
Linux is great on servers, it's the ultimate OS for that.
Further in the server role UNIX offers a more stable and mature product. Linux is really large for embedded devices and thus cannot be use in a multitude of devices. That's the reason why Cisco (Linksys) ended up dumping Linux. On the desktop OS X and Windows provided much better platforms for developers than Linux. Linux has been very hostile to developers and hardware vendors which will forever keep Linux in its current place.
you must be kidding. Linux is awesome. I have everything I need with it. I really miss nothing.
A few years ago I joined the fail train and it was called Windows 95, joined by 98, me, 2k, xp, vista and that was too much for me. No more chance for backsteps with Microsoft. Really, they killed development of new technologies!
Looking at this on my Ubuntu Jackalope comp, its flash tho' so the sound doesn't work on it. And my intel on-board ICH5 isn't supported in linux either (found that bug report) so I had to get a soundblaster card from 1998 to get any sound at all. I wonder if listening to the sound makes this video any better, hmmmm I guess I'll just have to check with my windows comp.
Yeah, it is... It's because whoever ripped it from the old SWF file didn't do it all that well, and that bad file got passed around to everyone putting the vid up on youtube.
Has anyone noticed that all the videos on youtube telling others to go to Linux are just videos with CompizFusion eyecandy? It makes me sad. Those people wouldn't even use Linux if it weren't for the eyecandy. I hope compiz dies.
It's like "Ubuntu!" And you watch it and it's just Compiz tricks.
Doesn't do me any good. I'm already running it anyway, and I've actually left Compiz off since it's ... How do I put this... Compiz is good, but it's not great. Or necessary.
