I hope there's some sheet music floating around the internet for this, I feel as though I could feel the emotion of this piece to a much greater extent if I could play it, add my own rubato, etc... This plays much like a romantic era piece.
Celes was the only human character in FF6. It was her suicide attempt, and her character depth (meant for evil but wanted to do good) that made FF6 what it was. It was the human struggle between good and evil. The only other char with any depth was shadow but it wasn't explored like Celes was (nor was it so exposed). IMHO Celes represents what FF6 was all about... a sacrifice for a greater good... A loss of beauty, youth, talent, intelligence, for the greater good... so sad...
@forguh123 ? Celes the ONLY human character? Terra, mog, umaru, relm and strago and that mimic guy I don't remember the name of weren't human (or at least not completely) but the other 5 where.
If you mean her being the only one who had depth well, of course everyone is entitled to think the way they like, but please consider Locke having some depth, just think through his story, there where few as conflicted as he, loving a "dead" woman and feeling guilting for Celes for loving her to.
Plus there's also Edgar and Sabin's story. And there's also Locke as you've said to consider, the guy lost his freaking fiance and has had to live with it, even develop a protection compulsion/complex, gau has some depth himself what with being an abandoned child of a madman who saw him as a demon which when you think about it is rather a harsh story, Terra, it wasn't touched on our translation, actually lost all emotions due to the slave crown.
Celes is the MOST contradictory character in all FFVI, and that makes me hate her. First states that she's not a "love-starved twit" nor "an opera floozy", and ends up being both. She builds up a strong-character façade that falls easily apart, and ends up being an emotionally driven gal. She thinks herself strong when she's not. Shadow, Locke and Terra are, IMHO, the characters that really bring what FFVI is about.
@AngelofKaos This post is correct. Shes overrated in a very odd, obsessive way by her fans. Any character emphasized to be a strong woman that ends up being a nappy overemotional lovesick twit makes me sad. I'd actually say she's one of the most poorly written central characters in the entire series. That said, her song is certainly lovely.
Celes was my favorite character (the opera, the whole cid thing, if you let him die, turning good after being evil, the struggle to gain the trust and loyalty of her new friends, her love for Locke). However, Locke deals with abject failure (the whole rachel thing), Setzer and Cyan with loss (daryl/family), terra learning to love as a human despite being half esper. These elements may not have made all the characters human, but it made the game human. more human than any other game.
Eh.

@leesha People keep forgetting to add in Cyan.
