LOL u guys get bit by snakes DAILY, but your afraid of getting bit by a spider? Tarantulas are not even venomous enough to kill a human being (except for the ones with a very low immune system like babies, AIDS victims, and very elderly people). Snakes and spiders are the same -> they have a horrible reputation and are looked down upon as scarey and dangerous.

I have spent the last 3 years of my life documenting rattlesnake roundups in the state of Oklahoma. I attended one festival in which there was so much fear mongering about snakes that no one brought up the fact that in the same community a person was killed by a dog a week before the roundup. I believe that only one person died in the US from snake envenomation last year but over 20 people were killed by dogs. I am fighting these misconceptions about snakes but I do need your help.

Woah! Way to go facing your fear of spiders! I have no problem with little ones, but tarantulas creep me the F**K out. They're big, hairy and got a load of legs. (I 'm mostly afraid if they're going to bite me too if I try to handle them.) D: My best friend owns a corn snake named Norbert and a rosy barb tarantula named Teacup. I usually stick to handling the snake, since she doesn't like taking the tarantula out anyway, but it still creeps me out to see it in it's terranium. :)
I have one for ya. I love snakesI have 2 suriname redtail boas and scared as hell to pick them up lol. One is 4 foot the other is 6+ but I have always loved snakes .

Down here in Australia, we don't have access to cool snakes like corns or balls, so what Australian snakes can you recommend?
@RonnyM88 There are lots of cool Australian snakes! I have a pair of Spotted Pythons, a pair of Stimson's Pythons, and a Jungle Carpet Python - all of which originate from Australia. My Spotted & Stimsons are all super mellow and fairly small, so those would be a good "starting snake" for your partner... mine are so calm, you can actually pet them on the head (which most snakes hate). :)

My biggest fear are horses lol. They scare the crap out of me. You may think its pretty stupid but when I was nine I went to my moms friends house who has two of them. I was sitting in a chair drinking a coke when the giant one got spooked and at full speed jumped over my head. It scared the living daylights out of me. I litterly craped myself. The following year my mom convinced me to pet one ate the fair. I did not notice the I bite sign on the stall. I reached out and you know what happend.

My girlfriend used to be terrified of snakes till i got a ball python and that made her curious what they were really like. That was like 6 months ago. Now she will hold all the ball pythons i have and she has held my 4ft male albino BCI.. She still wont hold the yellow anaconda or my 6ft het albino female BCI. My biggest fear is spiders too. Not so much cause there looks, but lack of knowledge of which ones can really hurt me. If i know it wont seriously hurt me, then its ok with me.

To be honest Kel, my fears are so small, tarantulas, spiders, some snakes, and rats. But my worst fear has to be watching George try on halloween costumes but the worst one was the red riding hood one... man that scarred me for life LOL!!!
Kel i usta be really scared of snakes and my friend talked me into getting one... so i nagged and nagged at my mom to get me one and she gave in... i had her for awhile (3ft corn snake) and it got lose my ex girlfriend went behind my back and told her and boy was she pissed! Love your show.
I really want a pet snake, but my parents have a huge fear of snakes and my friend has a corn snake and that is the same snake I want to get and even though they are small my parents are still scared of them so I am still trying to convince them to get me one.

I love reptiles.. not a fan of bugs and spiders... but I used to be way bad, couldn't even see them on tv. Now I'm okay with pink toes on me.. The bigger and slower they are, the less creeped out I am.

Ok I have a real serious question for every one I have a girl friend that I been with for 2 years and she is 7 months pregnant and I have a ball python that's around a year and 7 months old and she is harmless I love that snake but my gf is terrified and I need some help cuz If I even take my snake out the tank she will freak out bad so how can I do this where I can get her to slowly but surely get used to the snake with out hurting my unborn cuz of her freaking out

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of snakes or spiders or much of any animal for that matter. I know to respect their space and don't go storming in on them, like I wouldn't dare handle a Rattlesnake. I'll look at one from a distance if I see one, then go.
But one of my friends, she has a horrible fear of snakes. She was bit by one when she was five and was hospitalized; she's now almost 21 years old and has actually injured herself on accident when she sees a real snake.

I really don't have a fear of anythin....except VOMIT! Ughhhh If somethin is in your stomach, it should stay there, not come out of your mouth! I have a Phobia of chickens. Haha, ever since I was a little kid and I saw the Jimmy neutron movie where they go to some planet and they fight a giant Alien chicken I've been freaked out by them and how even if you decapitated one it'd still jump around like its on fire. I'm not as much any more but I'm pretty sure that contributed to atleast 60% of my Nightmares when I was a little kid haha.

i've been trying to fight my fear of snakes for about 5 years now. i used to not be able to watch shows like croc. hunter because of them. my best friend is a biologist and encouraged me to try and get over my fear by watching the shows. we found a pet store that had snakes and i would go a look at them too.
finally about 3 years into the process, i touched my first snake at a science center and then i held my friends ball python.

My irrational fear was dolls cause i always thought that the eyes were watching me and when i wasn't looking they would move, and i didn't even watch Chucky yet. I maybe a girl, but dolls were not my favorite toy when i was younger. I'm 16 now and over the years of getting porcelain dolls from my grandma my fear of them are almost gone. I do still have a little time once in a while that I get freaked out and don't even go in my room.
Regarding your question of the week - my irrational fear is not specific to some animal, but I have kind of a fear of being infected by some kind of wild animal carrying rabies - I really love to watching foxes but only from a safe distance... *g*
It is usually easy for people with cats and dogs because they are all around us and we grow up with them, but it is tough with snakes of which most people just try to stay away from. Additionally there is the problem that wagging the tail does not have the same meaning as it has with dogs... ;-)
By the way - my experiences about the "regular" fear of snakes basically matches yours. I think the main problem is missing education. The second problem I see is that people are afraid of animals that they have no experience to judge in which mood that animal is.
The right show at the right time! Although I already have some experiences with getting some "regular" snake fearing people used to snakes, I have a comparably tough case right now. When a female friend of mine visited my apartment for the first time she sat in the corner of the room for 2 hours trying not to look at the snakes or anything moving in the boxes. And now I am thinking about how to invite her for dinner - if the table is standing in between 2 rows of terrariums... ;-)

Well snakes are beatifull animals!
But spiders are really freakin me out!
I hate big spiders like Tarantula or something, when some of them are walking on my hand dang I would shit 20 colours shit in my pants.

Hi Brian,
Love the show, very interesting and informative :)
So my partner is afraid of snakes, but not so bad, just doesn't like to handle them.
But she doesn't mind me having them (love her to bits for it :) ) So I was wondering, what snakes would you recommend introducing to her to help feel at ease handling a snake?
Down here in Australia, we don't have access to cool snakes like corns or balls, so what Australian snakes can you recommend?

@RonnyM88 There are lots of cool Australian snakes! I have a pair of Spotted Pythons, a pair of Stimson's Pythons, and a Jungle Carpet Python - all of which originate from Australia. My Spotted & Stimsons are all super mellow and fairly small, so those would be a good "starting snake" for your partner... mine are so calm, you can actually pet them on the head (which most snakes hate). :)

my biggest fear are butterflies. I once was taking a pee outside and i butterfly tried to nectorize my balls. wtf butterfly. Everyone thumbs this up so snakebytes can see it.

My biggest fear, other than my wife in the morning... for some reason im afraid of the bottom of a lake or ocean. Its all creepy and dark. I dont even like swimming deep on video games. uhh. Love my snakes though!

My biggest fear are horses lol. They scare the crap out of me. You may think its pretty stupid but when I was nine I went to my moms friends house who has two of them. I was sitting in a chair drinking a coke when the giant one got spooked and at full speed jumped over my head. It scared the living daylights out of me. I litterly craped myself. The following year my mom convinced me to pet one ate the fair. I did not notice the I bite sign on the stall. I reached out and you know what happend.

My worst dfear are the Croc's and Alla's at the wildlife reserve I work at *shudders* One time someone there almost got bit by one (There Really mean) but I'm ot even afraid of a venomious Conbra that lays on my neck all the time :3

My girlfriend used to be terrified of snakes till i got a ball python and that made her curious what they were really like. That was like 6 months ago. Now she will hold all the ball pythons i have and she has held my 4ft male albino BCI.. She still wont hold the yellow anaconda or my 6ft het albino female BCI. My biggest fear is spiders too. Not so much cause there looks, but lack of knowledge of which ones can really hurt me. If i know it wont seriously hurt me, then its ok with me.

To be honest Kel, my fears are so small, tarantulas, spiders, some snakes, and rats. But my worst fear has to be watching George try on halloween costumes but the worst one was the red riding hood one... man that scarred me for life LOL!!!

Kel i usta be really scared of snakes and my friend talked me into getting one... so i nagged and nagged at my mom to get me one and she gave in... i had her for awhile (3ft corn snake) and it got lose my ex girlfriend went behind my back and told her and boy was she pissed! Love your show.

I love reptiles.. not a fan of bugs and spiders... but I used to be way bad, couldn't even see them on tv. Now I'm okay with pink toes on me.. The bigger and slower they are, the less creeped out I am.

Im terrified of spiders and fish.
Not gold fish or like pet fish, but the kind you find deep in the ocean. I was bit by a big fish as a kid.. never got over it. Oh and now I probably wont sleep because of seeing that spider Dx.

Ok I have a real serious question for every one I have a girl friend that I been with for 2 years and she is 7 months pregnant and I have a ball python that's around a year and 7 months old and she is harmless I love that snake but my gf is terrified and I need some help cuz If I even take my snake out the tank she will freak out bad so how can I do this where I can get her to slowly but surely get used to the snake with out hurting my unborn cuz of her freaking out

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of snakes or spiders or much of any animal for that matter. I know to respect their space and don't go storming in on them, like I wouldn't dare handle a Rattlesnake. I'll look at one from a distance if I see one, then go.
But one of my friends, she has a horrible fear of snakes. She was bit by one when she was five and was hospitalized; she's now almost 21 years old and has actually injured herself on accident when she sees a real snake.

I have a Phobia of chickens. Haha, ever since I was a little kid and I saw the Jimmy neutron movie where they go to some planet and they fight a giant Alien chicken I've been freaked out by them and how even if you decapitated one it'd still jump around like its on fire. I'm not as much any more but I'm pretty sure that contributed to atleast 60% of my Nightmares when I was a little kid haha.

i had one friend that was very scared of snakes. she couldn't even look at a picture of serenity and lucipher my ball pythons, but i slowly worked her up to hold one. it only took me 1-2 days. but after that she loved them, 2 weeks after she went home she bought a corn snake.

i've been trying to fight my fear of snakes for about 5 years now. i used to not be able to watch shows like croc. hunter because of them. my best friend is a biologist and encouraged me to try and get over my fear by watching the shows. we found a pet store that had snakes and i would go a look at them too.
finally about 3 years into the process, i touched my first snake at a science center and then i held my friends ball python.
now i kinda want a ball...they are so beautiful

My irrational fear was dolls cause i always thought that the eyes were watching me and when i wasn't looking they would move, and i didn't even watch Chucky yet. I maybe a girl, but dolls were not my favorite toy when i was younger. I'm 16 now and over the years of getting porcelain dolls from my grandma my fear of them are almost gone. I do still have a little time once in a while that I get freaked out and don't even go in my room.
I love the show and the snakes you all have. =)

Regarding your question of the week - my irrational fear is not specific to some animal, but I have kind of a fear of being infected by some kind of wild animal carrying rabies - I really love to watching foxes but only from a safe distance... *g*

It is usually easy for people with cats and dogs because they are all around us and we grow up with them, but it is tough with snakes of which most people just try to stay away from. Additionally there is the problem that wagging the tail does not have the same meaning as it has with dogs... ;-)

By the way - my experiences about the "regular" fear of snakes basically matches yours. I think the main problem is missing education. The second problem I see is that people are afraid of animals that they have no experience to judge in which mood that animal is.

The right show at the right time! Although I already have some experiences with getting some "regular" snake fearing people used to snakes, I have a comparably tough case right now. When a female friend of mine visited my apartment for the first time she sat in the corner of the room for 2 hours trying not to look at the snakes or anything moving in the boxes. And now I am thinking about how to invite her for dinner - if the table is standing in between 2 rows of terrariums... ;-)
