Yeah, the Americans lost battles in WWII, no one denies that. But it seems to have gotten that if there's EVER a movie made showing a victory the US had in war, every non-american out there starts screaming bloody murder about "propaganda".

I don't care whatever some people would criticise this movie, I think it was masterfully done. I read the book by Ambrose back to back several times and the movie captured the unfolding of the events pitch perfect. Plus, these actors are top notch, many from across the pond

1. it is based on actual event - they teach infantry tactics on that

2. these are first hours of D-Day - Germans are shocked and these are not elite troops

@goodchessactor if he said anything, the Germans would have turned to shoot at them or take cover/escape and they would have lost the element of surprise. they went to that flank QUIETLY with making little noise as possible to surprise the gun crew with grenades. it was more effective to sneak up then throw grenades without saying anything and risk being heard.

Something is wrong here. Paratroopers are athletic, physically coordinated and superbly trained yet Hall runs into that gun emplacement like the dorky guy who gets picked last to be a schoolyard stickball team.

Its only realistic in certain situations. This is an armored emplacement which would receive less training in small arms than a normal squad. Also the Americans would have panicked the people causing confusion and distress reducing accuracy. This is presented when the German troops fire on their own emplacements. But I do agree, in most movies the American troops are made from some bulletproof material.

The attack on the guns at Brecourt was considered a TEXTBOOK manoeuvre which is still referred to when teaching combat manoeuvre at West

Point military academy in the US.

And yes, by using surprise, ambush, 'base of fire' and 'fire and manoeuvre' tactics, a FEW (approx 20) paratroopers totally buggered the German garrison at Brecourt Manor. Engage brain before commenting...lesson learned.
