u know she's prob not picking up any UVB there, those UVB tubes only have a range of about 1ft. how r u retaining the humidity in an open viv like that? they need a humidity of like 75% at least, or are u just giving her a bath regularly? also u need a proper hide, they like to hide under something when they go to sleep.
@19green90 I give my Tegu ground turkey and cod liver oil a few times a week to help it poo! to much of anything creates problems. Just be careful of fatty liver disease with some cod liver oil.
very nice tegu was it from varnyard? Ive just made a tank just like yours and used 3/4 plywood. use a 250 watt heat light that is controled by a heat temp sensor and a fan all toghet cost was about 450 but i used storm windows instead of glass so that was about 40.00 bucks a window but just in chase flood lights are cheap and most walmarts have them and are open all night just so if you need a light in a hurry.great video look forward to more.
@pokelegofan I buy it separate it into meals sizes in ziplocks and freeze it, just thaw it in the micro wave (boiling is messy with turkey) add some cod liver oil and maybe some fruits or greens. make sure its not to hot because Tegus just get mad at the turkey and keep trying to eat it.
Hi, my lizard also poops in the same spot everyday. I use puppy training pads and place one on the ground. The lizard poops on the pad and i just throw it away little or no clean up. Lizard becomes potty trained.
@dinomanj they definitely need a lot of taming but then they can be very nice. they can be food and cage aggressive if you dont feed them the proper way. also they need a lot of attention and taming every day to make them tame and keep them that way. they go through around 6 months of "teenage years" as well which is pretty hard for a lot of people to deal with. its definitely something that takes patience and time. the more effort you put in the more tame yours would be. :]
Hi great looking tegu, and cage!! im really thinking about getting one. and would make a cage for her. i prefer a female, we have one at out pet shop and they have no idea if its a male or female. they let me try and hold it but... it was really wiggly, and i dont know how much presure i can put on it so i put it back. they feed it in its cage which i read was not good. i also read u can overwelm the tegu if the cage is too big? so if i got a baby do i keep her in an aquarium then upgrade?
@lifted2500 honestly dude easyest way to settup a tank would be...
for a baby, a 100gallon is perfect for good while. keep it clustered with stuff in the begining then take stuff out as she grows.
as for lighting, all you need is a "exo-terra Solar Glo" bulb that has heat+UV in one, whitch is the cheapest and smartest path to go. and for bedding i use coco hust mixed with plantation soil... its light and fluffy so they can burrow easy.
@friguy400 Yes but you should cook them first. Either scrambled or hard boiled, nothing added. Raw eggs can carry salmonella, and there's a certain enzyme that can give them bad skin and/or make it hard to shed.
@punkmonkey61 You should supplement the turkey with calcium, and maybe mix in some fruit. They can eat chicken and rarely some super lean beef (even lean, it's fatty). It should all be raw. They eat rodents and chicks too.
Damn dude, that's so epic, a good size tank for a female is 6x3x3 and she gets that and a run of the house!? I hope I can give mine a good run about during the day when I get my female tegu because she'll be in a 6x3x3 for the same reason yours isn't bigger, it won't fit through my bedroom door lol
Gorgeous Tegu, i wanted to ask, Do they climb on the sofas and tables? a poop on a sofa would be nasty, it's interesting how these are like cats and dogs ok to be kept roaming around the house while you're out.
she is a argentine black and white tegu. i've been looking up tegus alot i'm getting one soon. i ju want t know hat knof vitamins do you give her and how often. no you can't have a basking spot in your room they ussually need 60-80% humidity.
@SeniorTegu You should use Zoo Med repti calcium WITHOUT D3. It is better quality and not made of ground oyster shells like most others, which makes it easier to absorb. You also want to get it without D3, because you should be supplementing all non-whole food meals to make up for the lack of calcium in them. If you did that with the one with D3 you can overdose them. So I bought both, but a smaller container of the one with D3 for once a week, while the rest of the time I use the cal without.
Beautiful tegu nice vid and wonderful setup tegus like to roam and explore they are very curious so letting her run around your apartment is perfect I'm subscribing
Thank you for having similar dimensions that I was going to use for my future argentine. I was planning on building a 6 ft long 2 ft high and 2 ft back cage is this good enough?
@Virtualpixel they do need alittle bigger. but thatll work till hes full grown.. Columbian tegus dont need as much room because they ar smaller. so maybe that would work better for you. good luck
just wondering could a argetine b&w tegu live ina 4 foot by 3 foot cage considering it will be able to free roam around during day only in cage at night please reply quick
just wondedring could a argetine b&w tegu live ina 4 foot by 3 foot cage consiidering it will be able to free roam around during day only in age at night please reply quick
@CJELLIOTT666 i wouldn't hold your tegu in there for more than the first year. the tegu alone from head to tail can get up to 4 1/2 feet. the need room to stretch and walk, even if they are not in there long. besides that they like to burrow, so, thus needing more room.
Have you had her since she was a baby? If so do they get darker? Because yours' colors looks much darker than mine, and mine's still a juvenile; about a year old.
How does your tegu do with an aquarium in the house? i have a few and i noticed you have a nice looking oscar so im guessing she doesnt mess with it much as long as its up off the ground a few feet, right?
@mrtegu can you just have a basking spot in your room and a place for the tegu to potty when the reach adult hood like do they need an enclouser when adult
@ShonPhoenix stay away from citrus, grapes, cherries mangos are good... they also need rodents in there diet... and ground turkey and eggs (scrambled) are good too
She is BEAUTIFUL!!! Love her tank too!! My boyfriend and I are in the process of building our Tegu's new tank :) This gave me some wonderful ideas :D thanks for posting!! What is her name?
@XcXdualchamp50 ur probably gonna have to build it inside the room ur gonna put it in cuz 4' 1/2 is to large for a door...MAKE SURE when you build it, it can be taken apart LOL. so dont scilicon the edges use tape or somthing
@sinsnake89 When they are small they are the perfect killing machines and you best watch what your doing with your hands, face etc. when they are older (about a year or so) they calm down. Males are more calm than females. This is not something to cuddle or pet on a regular basis. Mainly a very smart and tempermental show pet.
Owch! my Tegu was a recent escape 2 weeks ago i captured her under the couch sleeping... I startled her tryin to grab her but she ran and when i liftted the couch her tail must of gotten caught:( she detached about 1ft and now it's stuby:( she seems fine but some of her bedding like cypress mulch and cocunut bedding seem to be on the wound,,,,is there danger and will it grow back?
@redluv777 Yes it will grow back, but it will not be stripped like before it will just be a gray color. And as for the open wound theres not much you can do for it unless you take it to a reptile vet and have them look at it. Other than that just try and clean up any poop in its cage asap bc thats where any infection would come from.
@ViscoHD Yes if you do the wrong thing and sometimes if your doing nothing wrong at all. They have little tombstone shaped serraded teeth all around their mouth and when they bite down they hit like an alligator and death role. Mine has bit me twice and it hurt for about a week each time, infected instantly, swelled up, and bled for a really long time. And that was when it was a baby. Now I think it could take a finger off.
ill be getting my tegu soon but im curious about leaving the door open for him to walk in and out while im out just in my room i have a tile floor so poo isnt a big thing but is there anything else that should be tegu proof would they chew on wires ?
If you have tile then there should not be a problem, and dont leave anything bite sized laying on the floor, or anything you dont want pooped on. Their best letout under supervision. Mine is just out all the time bc its almost an adult
It's $150min. for the tegu and $500 for the cage making it yourself, and these things eat a TON. The mice and meat are expensive, the UVB Bulbs are $100 every 6months, the thing eats better than I do most days and I make a lot of money at my job. Not reccomended for those without serious cash flow coming in.
i see u have cod..... ^.^.......my 360 just go the red rings of death lol and i think imma get a tegu to......we want him to roam around to but we have a dog...and we don't kno if theyd get along....hope so!
The video card went out in mine and had to ship it off for $100 6 days after the warranty was up. And as long as the dog is in a cage or something till you get home it should be fine when the tegu gets older. I also have 2 ferrets and between him and them they get the afternoon and he gets the day out to play.
u know she's prob not picking up any UVB there, those UVB tubes only have a range of about 1ft. how r u retaining the humidity in an open viv like that? they need a humidity of like 75% at least, or are u just giving her a bath regularly? also u need a proper hide, they like to hide under something when they go to sleep.

a cheaper route is to buy a tall cabenit and tip it on its side and put plexiglass in front its super easy

thats a beautiful cage, but how do you go about cleaning that monster?
NairbXFilms 2 years ago
I actually have never had to clean it, she never goes to the bathroom inside it, because she could always go outside of it

i want one but which type is the best to get and i dont have tons to spend
SmokeyStunna 2 years ago
if you dont want to spend money, then dont even think about getting a tegu.
octavian300 2 years ago
