  • @Sortsitar yeah, I was totally serious about that comment...

  • Women are also notorious throughout history for their ability to manipulate good men and turn him against his cause. The sirens, Cleopatra, and the courtesans of old to name a few. Although less barbaric then men, women have the capacity for greater long term planning. Problem is, segregation, civilization, tradition, and sexually biased agendas will still exist. Free community should be upheld! Men and women working together to create a future for children of every nation, not just our own!

  • women should never leave the kitchen. that way the world would be at peace!

  • @snertok ya......guess dat's y v had world wars n dat's y v've terroists' attacks!

  • why are people against this? It's another way to help! Another way for people to get involved and motivated and change the world! If it's not your thing, okay. This is my thing I can believe in and support.

  • I think the reasoning is very convoluted and not convincing. It's like I could just as easily make up a story about how killing a butterfly led to there not being a hurricane in New Orleans because it fluttered its wings a bit less.

  • It's not about money?? LOL!!! It's all about money. Replace the word "Girl" with "boys", "the elderly", "the poor and the sick", "tree", "cow", "dog", "cat", whatever - and you have the same ad.

  • take a deep breath

2 think of someone you like

    3 press f10 five times

4 send this to five youtube videos

    5 look at your background

  • this video is really inspiring

  • and shelby6413, do you have any proof whatsoever to state that "this video is NOT sexist"?

  • I think this video is great. I am a man, and the only problem i have with this video is why can't a man do these types of things also? i'm not sure if this is intentional, the fact that they use a girl over a boy or wheter it's just an example of someone changeing 3rd world countries. however if i did find out that this was made by a strongly opinionated feminist, I wouldn't be too happy. Great video apart from the possible sexism.

  • well over all these years and still even today, people are still sexist against girls. so y cant u just let us girls take the pride for once?

  • @clengoflord That's the point. Men are already doing those things, and boys get the opportunity to do those things. Girls in developing countries do not get those opportunities. In developed countries, girls and women have a completely different role in society. They are allowed to contribute their effort and are seen as valuable assets, most of the time. If a girl in a developing country is allowed the same opportunities, her potential productivity will help the world become a better place.

  • I would call it the "woman effect" but otherwise a good idea.

  • @cfish88 This effect isn't about women, though. It's about what will happen if a GIRL gets the chance to contribute to society and make the world a better place. Boys get to go to school, boys earn money, boys do a whole lot, but this is about allowing girls to contribute their effort, hopefully becoming a successful WOMEN.

I understand where your thought is coming from, but it's about a girl becoming a successful woman, and not being cast aside for her gender. =)

  • @cfish88 Aww, man! Typo fail! I put "women" by accident when I meant to use it singularly.

  • I LOOOOVE THIS VIDEO. It's so inspiring.

Does anybody know what song is playing??

  • actuallly...it is the governments fault :) pluss id say the boy effect is a much better solution than the girl effect :)

  • @smathee92 i dont think it is better cuz in class today I learned that girls dont get to go to school some places because people think they are not good enough and that is really sad. Think of how lucky you are

  • @smathee92 Males are already doing those things...and it's obviously not working. Who makes up their government, anyway? People...with penises. Believe me, I'm not writing off men. I like guys. But developing countries are very, very sexist towards women, and don't think they are valuable, much like Islamic countries. 90% of women are more likely to reinvest their success into their family, rather than 35% of men. By helping the people around you, the domino effect will change the world.

  • This organization is great bcuz it's not giving charity but teaching these women and girls how to better themselves and their futures! Read Half The Sky by Sheryl WyDunn and her husband ... truly inspirational

  • What is the song that's been played?

  • It's basically the domino effect re-aplied

  • this video is so inspiring! when i first watched this (on oprah lol) it made me cry and want to give my money to all girls in need. this video is NOT sexist, its not stupid and it IS worth the time to watch. :D

  • this is so true i loved it....im gona share it with everyone i know..

  • BELLISSIMO!!!

  • WOW .... AMAZING AND INCREDIBLY TRUE !!!

    Grazie :-)))))

  • this is sexist

  • Honestly this was a great video

  • I've worked in International health in places like Africa, China and Haiti. And if these girls get a chance at education and microloans, it really does transform the village.

  • lol invest in a girl and she will do the rest.....that sounds like something i would say to a friend xD

  • ha. and you think once a guy rapes a woman he is going to take care of the kid? yeah i hate to break it to you but the world really isnt like the fantasy one in your head

  • OMG wooow i'm speechless very touching :(

  • love this video

    love the concept

    so inspiring

girls have the power to do anything and change the world

guys just don't have that power, enough said.

  • why couldnt it be a MAN who did this? why does it HAVE to be a girl that does it? How does a girl getting on a council help orevent aids or hiv or any of that? how does even a man help that? why does the girl have to be in poverty first? none of this makes sense. really, ANYONE could do this. It IS common sense, besides, there's also the question of, what if they wanted to be a doctor instead? or a lawyer? the cow thing would therefore be a waste. and this whole this was awaste for me...

  • @AndyBloodvain - Girls have a lot more to lose, and a lot more to gain by taking an investment. Girls in third world countries are usually considered to be worth less than furniture. By getting a loan, they can find a way to make a small amount of money. And every bit they make goes to pulling them out of poverty, and gaining the respect of the community and the men around them.

  • @endaphia - And? Anyone, I repeat, ANYONE could easily be considered worthless. I'm not by any means disagreeing with this, all I'm saying is it's illogical to say ONLY a woman could do this. Yes, it's a good idea, but to get a cow alone would be...unimaginably hard really. and if your in poverty, almost impossible to care for.

No one has more to lose than another, in the eyes of the Lord, we all have the same amount to lose. Same in my eyes. Respect, dignity, life.

  • isn't ** feminism

  • Yes but then the education should not happen only in female cases as you said. For a woman to be respected the male should be educated and learn what respect stands for. For as much as a woman can ask for that respect, unless the male or other females aren't educated then respect is not going to happen. and Rape can happen even if the woman is educated. Rape is somethign that can happen to any woman sadly, rich and educated or in poverty and uneducated and vice versa

  • Chill out guys. This isn't a sexist thing, this is feminism, this is FACT. Let's face it: GIRLS are the ones that make babies, and the main problem why this world is in such poverty has to deal with too many children in countries that can't afford to feed them. Where is rape happening the most in this world? Where women are uneducated and not respected. Education and Respect for women = less babies = less poverty = better world!

If you want to be "rational," GET REAL. It's economics.

  • WOW!! This put a HUGE lump in my throat.. just magnificent... the possibilities. Thank you, Stephanie, amazing vid. And thank you so much, my dear Patty for sharing it. I love it.

  • if you could just get people to buy into this its going to work eventually so true and a start would be maybe stop paying the entertainment industry so many millions and help out a cause ............ such as this good vid and keep up the good work

  • Of course mans will always react like i've just read in the comments bar. And why not in their minds transform this into a sexual thing....Female- the old tradition....The one who must raise the kids....and thats about it.

Stephanie I think this is amazing. I think it will help allot.

The girl effect....man i would love to do that!

    Thank you!

  • beautiful..... im touched...

  • cant u also do this with a boy? so isnt it just a human effect? but cool vid!

  • I think we also need to educate the men as well in those countries. They need to learn to value the lives of their women. If only one strong man would stand with these women to show women are just as important to their country.

  • then he would get beat down by all the other men. the reason they feel women as inferior in these countries is religion, mainly Islam. Thats why women in afghanistan had to wear burkhas, because the Islamic government mandated it. You dont fix this, bcuz its about religion. You cant sway someones beliefs.

  • I think we also need to educate the root of the problem, the men in those countries as well. The need to learn that all life is valuable. We need a strong man to stand up for the women.

  • I saw this on oprah... I thought it was a little sexist to guys, but heck, they can take it if we can... Anywho, we're going to have to realise that women or men (or even transgendered) black, yellow, red or white, gay, straight, anything in between... regardless, we're all human beings. This is a step that I strongly support. Amazing.

  • Amazing video!

Thank you to the Batonga Foundation for being an important part of the Girl Effect!

    Keep up the good work!
