thats not the point of a hybrid.....its not to create as much amissions and use less gas. while your at the stoplight in you diesel car wasting all that gas the hybrids are runing on electric only....

1) Google: Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage (1st article on top)
2) Google: HIDDEN COST OF DRIVING A PRIUS
PRIUS SUCKS because it handles LIKE A PREGNANT YAK, and brakes like a Semi flying downhill, and has no uphill passing capability, and cannot maintain any decent speed uphill, and cannot carry any real heavy cargo or five GROWN adults in comfort!
What it has is: cheap plastic interior and a loud & rough ride. Engine is WEAK and accelerates like a grandpa on his oxygen tank!
I draw to the honda, maybe it is less impressive "green" it does offers well more usefull performance. Because really you gotta be a slug to do 40:1 in a prius in the city. Why? It is to slow..to slow..so you have to push the gas more to get it's letargic weight forward and ugh!
Time will come when fossil fuel will be outlawed. First they will tax it for greenhouse gases emission. If the environmentalist wins they will outright ban it. Fuel cell will replace it and bye bye big oil and Middle Eastern despots! Good for mother Earth too.
Wonder if they finally went with comodity headlamps? Older Prius headlamps cost $600 to replace both when they burned out(!) at least that's what I read in the Mercury News....

German cars no matter where they are assembled are more expensive to maintain as replacement parts/labor are also much more expensive[than japanese/domestic rivals] this is true in the USA but not in other countries.
WTF... rear leg room complaints? Um, yeah... I've owned a prius for years and rear leg room was the best i've seen out of any car anywhere... people who are 6'5 have no problem in the back...
Love the new headlights, thats what would sell me the car, but still previous gen looking tailights which isnt really sporty looking in general, i'll wait until a more performance oriented hybrid comes out. I believe the Toyota FT-HS concept will be.
what a joke!the carbon footprint on this crap car is alot bigger then most cars out on the maket.look up how and where its made and you will get the real picture.
The Prius is shaped the way it is not for looks, but for aerodynamic efficiency. Leave looks for Ferraris and Lamborghinis. I really get a kick out of all the people who bash the Prius. Just goes to show how influential the car is.
In 100K miles, you save $2,736 in gas over this span with the Prius. You spent at least $6K more for the car...and you'll have those damn batteries to deal with later. The Civic will need a $50 tuneup.
Might I add that you bought an ugly car with 30 less Horsepower.
Holy shitballs...I just found out that the 2009 Civic has 30 more horsepower than the Prius and weighs 200 pounds less. I thought they were equal for some reason. Umm....perhaps if they take 30HP from the Civic...would it then be over 40MPG? yep.
Edmunds Prius owner review: "Not sure how anyone here is getting these crazy gas mileage numbers. I haven't even hit 40 MPG. I have even given up my lead foot and try to keep it at or below 70 on the freeway which is about 15-20 mph less than I'm used to driving." ...know how they get these numbers? Too lazy to break out the calculator and divide the miles driven by the gallons used.
My new Civic LX (36MPG every time!) cost $16400. At my average speed of 65MPH, I'd get about 3 more MPG with the Prius...from what I understand, and I'd pay $7K more equally equipped, and I'd have to worry about those damn batteries later on.
I can't believe how stupid people really are in buying this rediculously expensive battery operated car that will probably not be worth a dime with 150K on it.
Drive your Prius at 70MPH and see if you get 54MPG.
It's called real world driving.
Oh, and don't use the car's computer...use your calculator (you'll see a large difference).
And lastly, good luck selling a Prius with 150K miles and dead batteries. I understand they will sell you an extended warranty on the batteries (for those of you who are dumb enough to pay $22K for this ugly econobox in the first place). Oh, I'd imagine the 2010 isn't going to be cheaper either.
ech the stupid, retarded prius. i will never understand why people buy this shitty little thing, it's easily the worst car in the world. and this one looks even gayer. but aside from the looks, the car is really pointless. the materials going into it are environmentally harmful, the way its made is also environmentally harmful... the result: over 100,000 miles, the prius will be equally environmentally harmful as a land rover lr3.
so i've proven that the prius isn't a car for the environmentalists. but the other reason people buy it is because they try to save money... well real world mpg of the prius is around 37 mpg, and if you go around 75-85 mph (aka keeping up with traffic), you'll get around 19 mpg. every 5-8 years, the battery pack needs replacing which costs $7,000.
the jetta diesel is a much better car, its much more reliable, gets better mpg, and has the power of a normal car, with over 200 lb ft of torque.
one of my relatives have a 2001 PRIUS..They Have over 280Xxx Miles and they told me they have NEVER had issues with the battery pack..Its Just HYPE about when the ODO turns 100 Thousand Miles "OH U NEED 10 GRAND to REPLACE IT" ITS JUST HYPE!!
it's not just hype, those are estimates as to when they need to be replaced. eventually, they will need it replaced.
but i really don't understad why hybrids are more popular than diesels in america. a diesel is much cheaper to maintain, gets much more mpg, and has the horsepower of a normal car, and more torque than a normal car. plus in america, the jetta diesel gets every tax break that the prius gets, so it seems a bit ridiculous to get the ugly, slow, impractical prius.
the prius is practical in the same way the hummer h2 is. the hummer has loads of space, and has that go anywhere attitude (although it fears wet leaves), but it is a gas guzzler. the prius is a gas guzzler for what it is. in europe, vw sold a car called the lupo which was about the same size as the prius, and wasn't a hybrid, and got more power. it got the same gas mileage. they have a diesel polo, non hybrid, that gets 80 mpg. plus, the prius is very costly to maintain. very impractical.
WRONG! The VW Lupo was nowhere near the same size as a Prius. It was almost a metre shorter, had much less power and averaged 50-60 mpg, the same as my Prius does (UK gallons). You can comfortably get 5 x 6ft adults and their luggage in (you certainly could not in Lupo, a bag of shopping filled the boot). Likewise the diesel Polo, again it in fact averages 50-60mpg, not 80 as you state. The Prius is also very cheap to maintain, insure and tax here in the UK, hence why it sells so well.
in the uk, the polo costs like 7,000 pounds less than the prius. the prius cannot seat 5 6 ft adults and their luggage in a prius. i'm 6'5'' and can't even sit in the front seat of the prius, well not comfortably anyway. in the back, strangely, i can sit though. the luggage space is ok... i guess. honestly, id never buy a prius. i have a mazda 6s, and it's avg 23 mpg is fine for me (in america, 23 mpg is about average, since gas only costs the equivalent of like 1 pound a gallon)
My previous car was a BMW 5 series estate, the luggage capacity in the Prius (seats up) is identical at 408 litres, plus there is a huge compartment under the boot floor. You CAN get 5 x 6ft adults and luggage in, I've done it! The car saves £2000 a year in congestion charge fees here in London, costs only £15 per annum road tax, runs on petrol which is much cheaper than derv, comes as standard with superb auto transmission, cruise control, JVC audio etc. A Polo simply does not compare.
ok, good for you. i live in new york, we have no congestion charge. a clean diesel or a hybrid gets you discounts at the verazano/george washington bridges/holland/lincoln tunnel tolls for going to new jersey. if i ever decided that what i need is a very green car, i'd probably buy a jetta diesel. in america, you get real life gas mileage better than the prius because we mostly drive on the highway, while the prius is better in the city. good luck, but its too small/ugly/underpowered for me
I frequently drive my Prius from London to Scotland, a 680 mile round trip. Did so just last Tuesday in fact. Sticking to the legal limit (70mph on motorway)) the car returned 59mpg, last summer I was getting 64mpg doing the same trip. The car never averages less than 50mpg, even in traffic. It's not a fast car to drive, but far faster than a Polo diesel and much more roomy, comfortable and quieter. My only dislike is the poor visibility out of the rear, other than that it's a superb car.
Really. Don't forget we have imperial gallons here. Most UK Prius owners average in the fifties/low sixties mpg. A UK motoring magazine called Auto Express ran a Prius on long term test and averaged 60.8 mpg during the several months they had it (google it and you'll find it as you might not believe me!) The Prius also came first for customer satisfaction in the JD Power survey of all cars available in the UK (google that too, I might just be making all this up!)
that's true. im still not buying one lol. im 16 years old, my first car now is an 04 mazda 6s (with the 3.0L v6, 220 bhp XD) and my next car will hopefully be an alfa 159, they're making their return to the us next year. i like the mazda because my parents own a nissan altima and a toyota camry, and it's so much more composed than them. i learned long ago that any car made specifically made for the us market sucks, and the nissan was, but the toyota camry was sold in europe (98)
im not really going to look for a fuel efficient car unless gas prices go to like $5.00. in some parts of the country, like louisiana and mississippi after hurricane katrina, it went higher than that briefly. here, the highest point was last summer which was like $4.50 here in new jersey. my state has one of the lowest petrolleum taxes in the nation. now, it's $1.52 near me, and its lowest point was in december at like $1.25. my mazda is fine for me now...
Observation test. for you. What was the red car that stopped at the junction before Clarkson walked into the road? That's the car to drive - just a shame it didn't run him over, though I do agree your cars are hideous!
I've obviously stumped you on this one! Clarkson, 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly:- Why American cars are horrible.' Only one car worth having in the whole clip, the red one at 2:45 when he walks out into the junction. Don't believe all he says about cars, we don't take him that seriously over here, like I say, shame he wasn't run over.
well... i just got first-hand experience he was right on one of the things he said. i drove a mustang convertible for around 50 miles around the new jersey countryside... holy shit is it a horrible car. that quote he makes when he says "you just don't realize how important brakes are... until you drive an american car and it hasn't got any". i thought he was wrong about that until now!
stick to your prius. it's for people who don't like driving. i like driving. so ill stick to normal cars
I actually drive about 25,000 miles a year, if I didn't like driving I simply wouldn't do it. I drove my Prius 2400 miles on 2 weeks holiday last year, the CVT gearbox makes it a delight to drive, always in the right gear and far more efficient than any other manual or automatic I've ever had. I've owned 4 x Jaguar XJ's, 4 x Mercedes E Class + 1 x S Class, 3 x BMW 3 series + 2 x 5 series, various Volvo and Saabs too. The Prius is as good and indeed better than many of them.
seriously...people who drive those hybrid cars are soooo gay and tree hugeeeerrss!!! its sad to see them pretend to save the world buying that shit.....ofcourse they do 40+mpg's!!!! but have you seen the way they drive? ur doing 65mph in the freeway and they are doing 50mph.......they drive like they dont care if they are causing traffic.....i could do 32mph in my 07 civic si if i drive that way......so i really hate them!!!
No one is saving the world by buying a Prius...but at least they are a bit more responsible than the zit-faced, small dicked douche bags who go around in 07 Civic Si's racing other small dicked douche bags. God knows there are plenty of you penisheads around...GO GO GO GO..get that light before I do in a whole 0.4 seconds!!! Then go tell mommy.
hahahahah!!! you people get offended fast....the only people that i see driving that shit is, gays, lesbians, more gays and really old people......shit, i own a 87 civic with all kinds of mods in it, and still do 42mpg's...so fuck you fag...shub that fag car up your ass and then call u nigger friends to your house and have them rape you..and the next morning you'll feel really gay to drive that prius..if u wanna save the world, go pick up tons of trash from beaches, then ur doing something good
you people is united!!!! one attacks, you all attack...let's compare...my car is $21k the prius is $25k my car has 200hp, prius has like 95hp, my car can do 32mpg's, prius 45mpg's....my minor services are $45 on average, prius $175 on average. 5 years cost of ownership...civic $12k, prius $28k....does that make sense to anybody here? and if you drive 50mph when the traffic is doing 80mph..
LOL...yeah...I'm the one running around with a zitface and fart-can exhaust Civic that's "modified."
Your car is what? A Civic SI? If so, that car is $23K...a base Prius is $22K. And it's getting cheaper. The average mileage with a Prius REAL WORLD is 48-50MPG...average REAL WORLD for an SI is about 27-30 MAX. Almost 60% less.
Buying a Prius makes sense to people who are adults and can afford it...not a zit-faced punk like you who thinks he's a racer in a Civic. Got it?
How can a Prius look sporty? The designers should shoot themselves for making such an ugly car. Design disaster comparable to: The Mustang II.
Anyways, purchasing a Prius saves you no money, and it harms the environment just as much as a normal car. Why not purchase a diesel? They get better mileage than a Prius, they're cheaper to maintain, and they can beat a Civic si off the line! Haha!
People buy Priuses for the same reason they buy iPods - The brand name.
i rented a prius the other day and it drove like stank, looked horrible, had a cheap interior, but it did get good mileage. I was able to get 46mpg much to the disdain of drivers behind me. I took my good ol time accelerating from stop and drifted when I could... hehe
thats cool. i rented a dodge magnum and went to miami from atlanta. only had to refill 3 times from half tank. so i spent about 80 on gas back and forth. driving about 80+ mph. faster in miami :D
thats not bad but gas is cheap right now. I think a magnum doesn't get very good mileage normally. when I was in Miami I rented a mustang convertible. it was fun.
yeah and thats what pisses me off. you see ppl still crying at the gas prices. i want to buy a stang. one of the 03 or newer models. a roush would be awesome.
48/45 combined = 46.5
51/48 combined = 49.5
So overall combined difference is 3 not 4MPG

They get better gas mileage from a larger engine because the new engine has more torque, so it has to work less to move the car.

but i really don't understad why hybrids are more popular than diesels in america. a diesel is much cheaper to maintain, gets much more mpg, and has the horsepower of a normal car, and more torque than a normal car. plus in america, the jetta diesel gets every tax break that the prius gets, so it seems a bit ridiculous to get the ugly, slow, impractical prius.
coolerdude44 3 years ago 3
how is the prius impractical ?
Gonzalor29 3 years ago
the prius is practical in the same way the hummer h2 is. the hummer has loads of space, and has that go anywhere attitude (although it fears wet leaves), but it is a gas guzzler. the prius is a gas guzzler for what it is. in europe, vw sold a car called the lupo which was about the same size as the prius, and wasn't a hybrid, and got more power. it got the same gas mileage. they have a diesel polo, non hybrid, that gets 80 mpg. plus, the prius is very costly to maintain. very impractical.
coolerdude44 3 years ago
VWK70 3 years ago
in the uk, the polo costs like 7,000 pounds less than the prius. the prius cannot seat 5 6 ft adults and their luggage in a prius. i'm 6'5'' and can't even sit in the front seat of the prius, well not comfortably anyway. in the back, strangely, i can sit though. the luggage space is ok... i guess. honestly, id never buy a prius. i have a mazda 6s, and it's avg 23 mpg is fine for me (in america, 23 mpg is about average, since gas only costs the equivalent of like 1 pound a gallon)
coolerdude44 3 years ago
My previous car was a BMW 5 series estate, the luggage capacity in the Prius (seats up) is identical at 408 litres, plus there is a huge compartment under the boot floor. You CAN get 5 x 6ft adults and luggage in, I've done it! The car saves £2000 a year in congestion charge fees here in London, costs only £15 per annum road tax, runs on petrol which is much cheaper than derv, comes as standard with superb auto transmission, cruise control, JVC audio etc. A Polo simply does not compare.
VWK70 3 years ago
ok, good for you. i live in new york, we have no congestion charge. a clean diesel or a hybrid gets you discounts at the verazano/george washington bridges/holland/lincoln tunnel tolls for going to new jersey. if i ever decided that what i need is a very green car, i'd probably buy a jetta diesel. in america, you get real life gas mileage better than the prius because we mostly drive on the highway, while the prius is better in the city. good luck, but its too small/ugly/underpowered for me
coolerdude44 3 years ago
I frequently drive my Prius from London to Scotland, a 680 mile round trip. Did so just last Tuesday in fact. Sticking to the legal limit (70mph on motorway)) the car returned 59mpg, last summer I was getting 64mpg doing the same trip. The car never averages less than 50mpg, even in traffic. It's not a fast car to drive, but far faster than a Polo diesel and much more roomy, comfortable and quieter. My only dislike is the poor visibility out of the rear, other than that it's a superb car.
VWK70 3 years ago
really? most american reviewers say that they get around 37 mpg average driving normally.
coolerdude44 3 years ago
VWK70 3 years ago
that's true. im still not buying one lol. im 16 years old, my first car now is an 04 mazda 6s (with the 3.0L v6, 220 bhp XD) and my next car will hopefully be an alfa 159, they're making their return to the us next year. i like the mazda because my parents own a nissan altima and a toyota camry, and it's so much more composed than them. i learned long ago that any car made specifically made for the us market sucks, and the nissan was, but the toyota camry was sold in europe (98)
coolerdude44 3 years ago
im not really going to look for a fuel efficient car unless gas prices go to like $5.00. in some parts of the country, like louisiana and mississippi after hurricane katrina, it went higher than that briefly. here, the highest point was last summer which was like $4.50 here in new jersey. my state has one of the lowest petrolleum taxes in the nation. now, it's $1.52 near me, and its lowest point was in december at like $1.25. my mazda is fine for me now...

Observation test. for you. What was the red car that stopped at the junction before Clarkson walked into the road? That's the car to drive - just a shame it didn't run him over, though I do agree your cars are hideous!
VWK70 3 years ago
I've obviously stumped you on this one! Clarkson, 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly:- Why American cars are horrible.' Only one car worth having in the whole clip, the red one at 2:45 when he walks out into the junction. Don't believe all he says about cars, we don't take him that seriously over here, like I say, shame he wasn't run over.
VWK70 3 years ago
well... i just got first-hand experience he was right on one of the things he said. i drove a mustang convertible for around 50 miles around the new jersey countryside... holy shit is it a horrible car. that quote he makes when he says "you just don't realize how important brakes are... until you drive an american car and it hasn't got any". i thought he was wrong about that until now!
stick to your prius. it's for people who don't like driving. i like driving. so ill stick to normal cars
coolerdude44 3 years ago

07SiPOWER 3 years ago
No one is saving the world by buying a Prius...but at least they are a bit more responsible than the zit-faced, small dicked douche bags who go around in 07 Civic Si's racing other small dicked douche bags. God knows there are plenty of you penisheads around...GO GO GO GO..get that light before I do in a whole 0.4 seconds!!! Then go tell mommy.
Still wet behind the ears I see.
Nozferat 3 years ago
hahahahah!!! you people get offended fast....the only people that i see driving that shit is, gays, lesbians, more gays and really old people......shit, i own a 87 civic with all kinds of mods in it, and still do 42mpg's...so fuck you fag...shub that fag car up your ass and then call u nigger friends to your house and have them rape you..and the next morning you'll feel really gay to drive that prius..if u wanna save the world, go pick up tons of trash from beaches, then ur doing something good
07SiPOWER 3 years ago
Actually I'm not offended. I don't own a Prius nor do I want to. But making douche bags like you get a rise is more interesting.
Now go run along and get to that next light and Vtec it all the way.
You stupid fucking moron. Get a life. Go take a vacation instead of pissing away your money on a car and wasting resources.
You dumb fuck.
Nozferat 3 years ago
you people is united!!!! one attacks, you all attack...let's compare...my car is $21k the prius is $25k my car has 200hp, prius has like 95hp, my car can do 32mpg's, prius 45mpg's....my minor services are $45 on average, prius $175 on average. 5 years cost of ownership...civic $12k, prius $28k....does that make sense to anybody here? and if you drive 50mph when the traffic is doing 80mph..
07SiPOWER 3 years ago 2
And your point is?
firstmusic00 3 years ago
United?
LOL...yeah...I'm the one running around with a zitface and fart-can exhaust Civic that's "modified."
Your car is what? A Civic SI? If so, that car is $23K...a base Prius is $22K. And it's getting cheaper. The average mileage with a Prius REAL WORLD is 48-50MPG...average REAL WORLD for an SI is about 27-30 MAX. Almost 60% less.
Buying a Prius makes sense to people who are adults and can afford it...not a zit-faced punk like you who thinks he's a racer in a Civic. Got it?
Nozferat 3 years ago
this prius has 134 combined. the current prius has more than 478nm of torque thanks to the motor. does a civic have that much?

Design like concept car. I think that white is suited. It looks sporty than before.
pxa640 3 years ago

I took my good ol time accelerating from stop and drifted when I could... hehe
ironchopsticks 3 years ago
thats cool. i rented a dodge magnum and went to miami from atlanta. only had to refill 3 times from half tank. so i spent about 80 on gas back and forth. driving about 80+ mph. faster in miami :D
BlazingCheerio 3 years ago
thats not bad but gas is cheap right now. I think a magnum doesn't get very good mileage normally. when I was in Miami I rented a mustang convertible. it was fun.
ironchopsticks 3 years ago
yeah and thats what pisses me off. you see ppl still crying at the gas prices. i want to buy a stang. one of the 03 or newer models. a roush would be awesome.
