  • this song breaks my heart

  • In the lyrics you say 'when her baby', I think she is saying when her old man..

  • emotional song, perfect sung by the one and only

  • I've been the wife, hated the other woman, kicked out the husband, then she dumped him after a few weeks. Later, I was turned into the other woman without knowing it, found out, but I was already in love and felt terribly trapped. The other woman was never a role I wanted to play and the resentment from being turned into the other woman to a chick that came after me was...degrading. I recently ended my stint as the other woman and found this song. It's hard to know that this has become me...

  • asecretdiaryoftheotherwoman.wordpress. com

is my blog that i just started. Here i'm talking about my experience as the other women. This song is so true...

  • I was the wife. After 20 years he wasn't worth it... Kicked him out so he's stuck with her cause he got ugly in his older years and can't get anyone else.......

  • I am the other woman too....

  • How is that the other woman sometimes has the most incredible night and she smiles for twenty four hours, when 48 hours later, her smile and heart is turned upside down? This is the price 'The Other Woman' pays. It's worth it sometimes.

  • I keep thinking he's my Prince on the white horse, but deep down, I know he'll never be. Don't they know we cry all the time, that we wish they would have never came into our view, but yet we can't imagine them out of our lives? How do we say goodbye to this man? Maybe we have to look at his wife and feel sorry for her and just for a moment, pretend you are her, cooking for him, picking up after him, but yet somewhere in the back of her mind, she wonders is he cheating on me?

  • @lindalovesmusic1 Hi Linda, your comment touched me so much as I too am in the same situation and I hate it and want out but too emotionally attached and don't want to let go. If you're comfortable to chat with me via email please feel free to reach out to me omarsh76@aol.com as women we need to learn to support one another in our time of need. If I don't hear from you I wish you the best of luck in your situation.

  • Amazing tune.

  • I'm an other woman - this song is so true. You know it's wrong but you can't bring yourself to leave b/c you're too emotionally attached. You know you can only see him on HIS time so you waste energy making yourself beautiful and desirable on the off chance that he might have time for you today. All the while you know he'll never make you a priority in his life.

When I was cheated on, I didn't understand how anyone could be the other woman but now I realize how easy it is and how painful, too.

  • ..I was reading all the comments in regards to this song...which has beatiful and painful lyrics at the same time...and also painful is the interpretation of the greatest Nina Simone....sadly I have been in both sides not by choice and I could not say which one is more painful and humiliating...........and to the one that is so sure is never been cheated on, please be more humble and don't feel so proud to cause pain to other women...what goes around comes around and no one deserves to suffer.

  • This is the beauty of music......it touches each woman in a different way. This is art comming to life for me right now...this is my life right now. But at the end thank you Nina Simone for giving me back my dignity. I dont want to be a cheater like him...so what do I do....RESPECT myself.

  • it's not a matter of dignity sweety, u cannot mess up with passion

  • it *is* tragic... i'm always the other woman...

  • I came here to listen to this beautiful song, beautifully sung. What do I find?

Women with manners like fishwives, using this facility to expose their sordid little lives. If you took time to listen to the song, instead of screaming at each other, you might find, that although some what sad, it is very , very romantic. Not like life at all, just touching upon it. And that is the point.

Art serves to lift life out of a place where whores and fishwives scream at each other in public. Now, think

  • @thirlestanelodge2 whores

  • being the other woman really does hurt... it hurts most when u actually fall for the guy when u hate being away from them... and u realize that if it really came down to it you wouldent win

  • What a sad song!

  • perfektna stvar...rijeci su premočne

  • i have this song on a record when i play it it sounds so warm and soulfull sheer perfection

  • There are just no words that describe how amazing this song is.

Nina puts so much feeling into it.

  • I am the other woman :P

  • @yildizffi i feel you... T~T

  • I am the other woman and i hate it, and i hate him for manipulating me like this. but i cant leave, i love him, but i know it can never be and dont want it to. fuck im too high to listen to this song its to emotional for me.

  • @suppbeautiful09 ur really with a married man?......

  • @Peace16Girl yeah it sucks :/ but i cant leave cause he bought me an apartment and like im so dependent on him...

  • @suppbeautiful09 19m and a marriage wrecking whore. Sad prick.

  • all true...

  • i hate being the other women and crying myself to sleep, i didnt choose this, he did, i didnt mean to fall in love, we were just friends, now im stuck and i cant say no to him, because he made me his, but he cant be mine...

  • @Killerlove911 whore

  • @Killerlove911 i agree with that! coz i am too,,,

  • @Killerlove911 slut

  • @clairekerrypike You have no reason to be calling me a slut. You dont even know what went down. I did not even know he was taken until half way in our relationship so you aint got no right to judge me because you dont even know me. What a pathetic move to call people here sluts. You sound like a child when you talk like that. But even children have more respect then you. Sounds like you have some problems yourself, and for that, im the one who feels sad for you.

  • @Killerlove911 i'm no the whore who wrecks marriages, I'd dump someone if I found out that they lied and were married. Sad SLUTS like you don't. Save your pity for your cheap desperate self you moronic desperate cheap piece of trash.

  • @clairekerrypike Good grief woman! Have some dignity! So u lost a man to another woman, save your hate for the man who cheated - HE'S the one who betrayed you! Better still show how superior you are to the whole affair by not rising to it. Venting at people on here in very bad english is just not a good show.

  • @CJSpencer77 I've not been cheated on sad bitch

  • @clairekerrypike Oh so you're always this sociable and erudite then? There's me thinking that some emotion went into your posts - silly me eh. I repeat my first post then - GOOD GRIEF WOMAN HAVE SOME DIGNITY and stop caning strangers on youtube! Have you really got nothing better to do? Or maybe this stems from resentment against women who CAN get a man???

  • @CJSpencer77 hahaha I can get a man sad bitch, fuck yourself you WHORE

  • @clairekerrypike see comments

  • @CJSpencer77 see comments

  • @thirlestanelodge2 I'm sorry I didn't think there was much diff in our posts? If you'd read them you'd have seen we're fighting the same corner? By saying anything you're getting involved - see what I mean? If you want to stand above everyone else the only way to do it here is not to respond at all. Please point out my failed manners?

If you'd read the comments you would also have seen that I was trying to come to the defense of the rest of the individuals scorned by certain other posters

  • @CJSpencer77 you may notice that my original comment seems to have gained some support. So, now, lets listen to the music. It is very beautiful , and is not, I am sure you would agree, as, as you say, ' I didn't think there was much difference in our posts" it is not enhanced by arguments.

  • @thirlestanelodge2 *figuratively shakes hands and calls it quits* I agree - which was my point - and I was merely defending myself. *Seats self next to Thirlestanlodge, closes eyes and drifts...*

  • @CJSpencer77 Best wishes for a peaceful New Year.

  • @thirlestanelodge2 I do resent being called names especially when its uncalled for - and nowhere in MY posts did I resort to calling people whores or fishwives! If you wanted to change the subject matter why focu on individuals in the first place - surely you are now as guilty of propogating the row as you seem to be holding me to be.

  • @CJSpencer77 Yes, my comments were really directed at clairekerrypike77 who, I would defy anyone to deny , has the manners and vocabulary of a Fishwife. However, though you have more dignity, you seem to be as argumentative as that person. I am "Fighting" nothing. Merely observing and commenting. You would seem to advise against that. This is a public forum. There is a youtube facility for private comment, though you like myself, may prefer to think that what you have to say is best said here.

  • @clairekerrypike I am no whore. Plus i never wreched a marrage and you dont know the whole situation so close your mouth and think before you speak. Now, all your doing is backing up my point with your behavior. Plus i am no piece of trash, people who speak like you are trash. You need to open your eyes and see what your saying. You have no reasoning behind your words. Your life must be terrible if you find time to reply to all these women just to bash on them. Depressed child you are.

  • It hurts as much to be the other man.

  • I do love Jeff Buckley's version too.But the both version are beautiful and interesting in itself!

  • Nina Simone was, is, and will always be the best!

  • Strange day for me to run into this song. The father of my child wants the other woman, tonight I'm the one crying myself to sleep. I fear I'm destined to live my life alone, because I don't thing I want his love to keep. Thank you for posting this song- I think it is helping in some way, me and many others. And infinite thanks to Nina Simone, what a woman!

  • Oh my God, my God..... it´s such beautiful!

  • my girlfriend was the other woman...and lied to me about it for a year. Just found out a few months ago. I'm playing a show tonight at an art gallery and i plan to cover this song as some way to express how crazy things are now because of this situation. wish me luck. and ps this song is amazing....absolutely beautiful, each lyric means so much more than it says, i'm going to listen to so much more Nina Simone

  • where's the other man?

  • Mmm he comes in after her little private pity party

  • to be honest, i was the other man. she felt it all the way trough and i knew from the beginning that i would hurt, not only her. then tindersticks came in with "desperate man". and now? i' m eager for someone else to give me reason to..., pathetic, that's me, for now.

  • Amazing.

  • Thank you, amazingphoebe!

  • Wow, so powerful..Wish I heard this earlier

  • Yea this is depressing.

  • i'm the other woman

  • @Monail slut

  • oh my god...i am the other woman. this song is making me cry.

  • @eileenspl whore

  • the truth really hurts

  • Captivating xxx

  • The other woman: She spends her life ALONE.

These words resonnate in my heart.

    Beaytiful song.

Lyrics wrong here...is "when her OLD MAN comes to call"...not 'baby'

  • i hate to be the other woman,so sad!!!!

  • Me too :)

  • @maldita1225 trash slut whore

  • @clairekerrypike ,i dont know what's your problem is but are more trash slut and whore more than me FOR SURE!!!!!!!BITCH

  • @clairekerrypike,i dont know what's your problem is but YOU ARE MORE TRASH,SLUT AND WHORE MORE THAN ME.THAT'S FOR SURE!!!!BITCH,STUPID WOMAN!!!!!!!!!

  • @clairekerrypike ,saying bad words to a person that dont do anything bad to you is a sign of mental illness.you better see your doctor.YOU NEED HELP!!!or perhaps you need to go back to school and once again learn "GOOD MANNER" and RIGHT CONDUCT"..BITCTH!!!!!!!!!!

  • @clairekerrypike ,what a damn woman are you to call trash, slut, whore a person that you even dont know and done nothing wrong to you.you're such a bitch and illiterate fool person.you better go bact to school and once again learn"GOOD MANNERs and RIGHT CONDUCT"!!!!SO SHOULD FEEL ASHAME OF YOUR fucking SELF!!!

  • @cuteexxx13 - It's 'BACK' to school NOT 'bact' as you said. 'Ashamed' is not spelt ashame as you also said. Can you use proper grammer and proper sentences as well please? Calling me a bitch and an 'illerate fool person' is not 'RIGHT CONDUCT' so you might want to get yourself some manners. You can disagree with me while being polite, try it sometime. Bye.

  • nina sings it from the heart like it is her!!!

  • hey jojo

  • Nina's truth goes on....

''I don't want him You can have him. he's not worth fighting for besides there's plenty more where he came from'' is the tune I'd like to hear Nina's truth as she sang it during that period of her performing at Village Gate Our splendid Nina's truth as early 60's showed her to me.

  • This song is stunningly beautiful.

  • There is no one more perfect than Nina.

  • What is it about Nina Simone that demands your absolute attention? I think sometime it's the raw emotion and honesty in her delivery that makes her on of THE singers of our time.

  • @mrbrandon71 whore

  • @clairekerrypike haha who do u call whore do u think ur clean? hahaha

  • @krizzia232323 whore

  • @clairekerrypike u aint got no life eh? pity u... what a boring life u have =)) and are u a god? to call us whore or sluts? anyways pity on u.

  • @clairekerrypike Are you like... Extremely cheated on or something?

It warms my heart to see al those comments which show i'm not the only one... Being the other woman hurts as hell..

  • @Mrrloez You're a cheap self obsessed marriage wrecking slut. Feeling sorry for yourself, pathetic. You've nothing to lose. The wife is the one who is being humiliated and lied to. You know know he's married.

I've not being cheated on slut.

  • @clairekerrypike Lol, he is NOT married :')

His girlfriend is a slut and cheats on him all the time, i don't know why they are together and i don't really care. Besides, he started this whole mess. I just wanted to be friends.. In the beginning i indeed had nothing to lose, now it's a lot.. My reputation, him..

I'm just curious, why are you calling everyone sluts here?

And excuse me if my English isn't correct.. Normally i only speak Dutch

  • I wonder why she plays "the wheels on the bus go round and round" at the end...

  • possibly a hint life goes on like nothing ever happend.

  • never noticed that before!

  • Truth in every word.

  • The other woman is his mistress, "There are never toys that's scattered everywhere." This means that she has no children with the man. She 's in love with him. But because she is emotionally invested and he isn't, she "spend(s) her life alone". Basically, a sad song from a mistress' perspective.

  • You're not listening. The song is from the wive's perspective. "The other woman will spend her life alone."

  • It might be a third person, but it's written in such a way as to sympathize, whereas one would suspect the wife's perspective would be outright negative. My guess, a God narrator, who knows all and sees all. Not quite her perspective, because I know the difference between "I" and "she", clearly, but near enough as it is.

  • JiggersGenius, that's a very interesting comment (rare on youtube).

I certainly agree it's not sung from the perspective of the wife. I hear it as coming from the perspective of "the other woman" herself. The use of third person adds a touch of sad sarcasm as she sings about the person that others see her as--the other woman.

I think that's why it's sad and not angry. And how it puts a very human face on a normally disliked stereotype. It's the other woman, alone, looking back on her life.

  • This made me laugh. Rare indeed.

The other woman is a sad position, and honestly something I'll never do again (I was the other...man?) You can feel an emotional surge and hopeful, but most times nothing comes of it.

Hence, I feel this song relates well. I think it's the saddest song I know. It doesn't feel forced or contrived. Simply put, it's gorgeous.

  • Truth in every heartbreaking word...

  • This is a sad song. I think that the other woman needs to find someone better and leave the "no good" cheating husband alone. The wife should be careful about her cheating husband and the husband should stop and take a moment to consider his wife's feelings and also his mistress's feelings.

  • One of Nina Simone's best.

  • Two Words: FUCKING Amazing!

  • perhaps she herself is the other woman... speaking about her own dilemma... he probably complains about having the house a mess, sees his wife a mess, so she does everythin the wife doesnt, clean home, hair done... but she sees the downfall of her own battle as u can hear at the end

  • Esa voz temblando, ese feeling innato, esa categoria...Gracias por postear las letras de las canciones, amazingphoebe, verdaderamente eres especial, tanto como tus preferencias. Un regalo.

  • This song is about a woman longing for a love that isnt there, and never will be there....that is a sad scenario..

  • Well, actually it's not. It's aboout a woman, who knows, that her husband has a mistress. It's painful for her, but she reconciled with her faith. Now she not only feels sorry for herself, but also for her rival.

  • Ah thankyou for the clarification. But I was refering to the "mistress" crying herself to sleep and never having his love to keep"...The married man being that love, and never having him for herself, because he is married. maybe that is a wrong interpretation of the song?..

  • True, but this poem is not about her. She's not, so to speak, a lyrical hero of the song. The main character is the wife, hence "the other woman will never have his love to keep".

But I like your aproach - interpretation is good as long as you can prove it :) there is no such thing as "only one true interpretation".

  • Oh you a very right:)...for some reason I just like to sympathize for the mistress, because most of the time they are scolded

  • Exactly. That's why this poem is so powerful. Because we actually take the side of "the other woman", even the wife does.

  • The name of the song is "The Other Woman"... it most definitely is about her and not the wife. She can be seen as the tragic hero, not the hero. The wife is also spoken about in 3rd person and is referred to as the other woman's "rival." Since they're both spoken about in 3rd person, however, we are only given insight into "the other woman"... it is logical to that the song is about her.

  • there is also a great version of that song by Costello (music) and Sophie von Otter (vocal), but Nina Simone - the best. Stunning everytime.

And what a song! What lyrics! One of the best love poems I've read.

    Thanks Nina!

  • jeff buckley grace legacy edittion note perfect rendition

  • esta mujer cantaba con el corazón.

  • my god....

  • anyone from us? lets chat :)

  • this song is dedicated to the other women who dont mind being in the backseat...lol...

    that is not ok.....at all...

  • jewel covers this song so well!

  • haunting vibrato

  • Beautiful but also very sad!

  • Fantastico, una excelente versión de un tema tremendamente triste y fuerte.

  • What a sad song.

  • nina's version is the best...but all you people should hear jeff buckley's version better than any other cover.

  • Damn Straight!! It's utterly heartbreaking.

  • amazingphoebe, thank you, you did the perfect video for this wonderful version

  • jeff buckleys version of this is incredible

  • Nina's great!

Jewel does an amazing cover of this song!

    xo

  • There was only one Nina Simone - never to be duplicated again. I'm glad she was in my lifetime.

  • have you heard Patti LuPone's version of this song? Get it from iTunes...she is more true to the actual melody...stirring, sad, hopeful...gorgeous.

  • Sorry friend. It is good... but the original reigns... followed closely by Jeff Buckley's rendition. Un... REAL that a man should nearly best her range...

  • you don't have to hate the other woman ... she already hates herself.

  • Amen to Nina Simone....the other woman may have the mystique but she'll never have HIM.

  • Wow, well put! But somehow it seems as though the other woman reigns supreme these days. I mean look at Amy Fischer and Buttofuco that shit didn't even last

  • One of Nina Simone's best. It speaks to MEN, who, in my estimation, universally have the same tendencies: to cheat. "Strange sex" is too much for men to resist and "the other woman" knows that. She knows she can survive because of HIS 'weakness.' Too bad for married women who can't keep "the mystery" going for more than six months.

  • amazingphoebe you are truely amazing. Nina simone is a legend and the most talented woman ever. may she rest in peace.
