When you know someone is that unstable, you never allow them to be put in stressful situations by themselves.
That basic principle is taught in ROTC (of which I am no longer a part of), Boy Scouts, Management training, and the like.

I have to agree with you. Police beat and kill people at airports with much greater frequency then the media reports. I used to think people who got arrested or beaten by police were bad people and criminals. People who fly through airports are travelers. Not criminals. The airport police beating these ordinary people is out of control. It does nothing to make us safer. They beat mothers, daughters, grandmothers. They have no shame.

They have to arrest 265 people a year!!!! They have 3-5 Irate customers in a low season week. Have any of you flown lately? The last 3 times that I flew- I had two 6 hr delays & one for 3 hrs. The laws today are that they can lock you up 4ever without a trial & no one knows where you are. Now imagine an intelligent and disturbed woman who is a foreigner having the police arrest her.

This is NOT police brutality. This is a person with no self-control. She killed herself remember? The police didn't put the handcuffs around her neck. My wife works at a small airport and sees this behavior. They scream, jump up & down, yell profanities, and threaten the airport employees. Who wants an unstable person on a plane? Not me! The police action was totally justified. The real tragedy is when one of these unstables isn't arrested before killing other people and then taking their life.

Police brutality at airports is out of control. Especially when the police beat up and or kill young women and mothers. They never released the brain, heart or neck to the coroner that the family hired. It looks like they choked her to death and are covering it up with a fake story. I have never heard of anyone chocking themselves to death while handcuffed in a holding cell.

Now the husband states when he called the airport he told them his wife was suicidal and 'you're playing with fire.' WHAT? He and her well-connected mother in law need to re-examine their reasons for letting her travel alone. Can you imagine if she had been aboard a flight delayed on the runway or had a breakdown in midair? Thank God she wasn't allowed to board, for the safety of everyone else on the plane.

Police brutality in airports has become commonplace. We need to stop it now. We can't let them keep beating and killing women, girls and mothers. This is similar to the girl who got beat up at Reagan National Airport in DC, except she survived the police beating with a concussion. She is lucky to have lived. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gotbaum family.

After viewing the video, I felt the police did a good job. I saw no excessive abuse from the officers, so even though I'm not a fan of TSA's procedures, I do give the Phoenix police high marks for following their job - I guess the woman snapped for some reason (or drugs?) that led to her sudden death. Just sad.

He punched a black girl in the face pretty hard and then peppersprayed her.. And may I mention she was not endangering him and she was a very small,petite girl.. Cant wait to hear Alex bitch about this one.. These cops really are getting tottaly out of control..

Did you see the one where the cop beat the kid inside the holding cell while he was cuffed just because he wouldn't sit down? Thier IA said that stuff was no big deal, routine even. And spraying the girl, well she bit him, so the cop should have all the right in the world to punch her in the face and then, while she was still being held by him, spray her in the face. What a stand up guy!

Thanks for illustrating the police and TSA personnel did nothing wrong. If anyone is to blame for this woman's tragic death it is her family for allowing her to travel alone on a lengthy New York-Phoenix flight (including changing planes) knowing she was disturbed, on her way to rehab. They also knew she would have access to alcohol at airport bars/restaurants and to the airport. The husband states further that she called him from the airport screaming and suicidal.
