don't care if its writtin by a German, This gives me goosebumps so much it brings tears to my eyes! so many people there will be thinking of Scotland and feeling exactly what this music communicates which is Pride! and us Scots have it sack loads!
This is an absolutley beautiful tune, magnificently played. Our local pipe band play this for tourists in the summer, and i just have to go along and listen too.
@Tigger137 Why not? We aren't capable of composing anything close to this and who cares if the composers were German. Are we supposed to hate the Germans for ever?
@Tigger137 it may of been written by 2 germans, but the song is very much about scotland, its a terrific tune and id like to see it as scotlands national anthem
I have never in my life heard anything played on the pipes that was remotely as inspiring as this. My thanks to those who posted it, the sheer volume of pipers makes this such a memorable recording.
Boy is this atear jerker if you are Scottish...Yes it was written by two Geramns...But boy when played by a Scottish pipe band...Way to go ! Proud to be Scottish...No sound in the world is as unique as the Scottish bagpipes.
but with about 800 musiciens its hard to get them in one speed!
------
i would play it little slower and would start with "pianissimo" at the beginning and will end in fortissimo. like a band is coming from far far away an will stop in front of me.
Scotsbell My dads coffin was also carried to this tune and lowered into his resting place with a lone piper playing , It has been 5 years on the 12th of August , He died the day after he celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary , This should be Scotlands National Anthem .
SORRY!! clicked spam by mistake, ignore it!!! Sorry that you lost your dad so close to his anniversary. Your mum must have been gutted, bless her and your family xx
The melody composed for the bagpipes was written by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb[1] in a Scottish style. It has been proposed as the Scottish national anthem to replace unofficial anthems Scotland the Brave and/or Flower of Scotland. It has subsequently undergone various orchestrations and had lyrics added in English and in Scottish Gaelic.
AHAH ! My boyfriend was playing that night ! IT WAS JUST AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE ! I was a great show and pretty impressive to see all those musiciens from different country toghter !
A tune written for Scotland by two Germans, played in French Canada by musicians from around the world, Rabbie wis richt, 'Men the world ower shall brithers be for a' that and a' that.
So what Germans wrote it.they wrote it about Scotland and it's played by a Pipe band and it's internationaly recognized as Scottish so quite the jealousy
@ratonracine :D its great how everyone thinks this would be some kind of old, fancy tune tought by grey-bearded scottsman to their grandchildren...but actually it was written by 2 German guys in the 80s ;)
I first heard this beautiful music in November 2007 when I took my mother to the Menin Gate in Belgium. Her grandad (my great grandfather) was blew up in the first world war and his name is commemorated along with thousands of others on the Menin Gate.
Whilst this music was played by all the bands/guards etc we couldn't stop the tears from falling as we pictured all those men travelling through the Gate off to the frontline; many never to walk back through it again.
My friend introduced me to this piece of music, and I love it - We were having a bit of fun seeing what we could find on youtube regarding Highland Cathedral. This is brilliant. You only lose one point for leaving the beginning of this magnificant piece of music out. Otherwise this is a 5/5!
Apparently they loved the song of the Scottish blowpipes they wanted to compose a song for it.
For them nothing else but writing a piece for it was their way of saying they loved the blowpipes.
