He'd have insects with the vitamin powder daily. I'd get the piglets for a while, about once every six weeks. Fasting would be used to keep the weight under control.
I'd later discovered the Southwest Herpetology Society (local org) and replaced the piglets with large freeze-dried rats that vendors brought to meetings. It was cheaper, mainly because I avoided a long drive.
This was in the early 90s, and my memory isn't too fresh. An expert would advise better. I think insects are important.
DAMN! Be sure to stay on the You Tube air waves till then! That will be so damn cool to see! Be sure to include feeding time!!!! That is a most impressive lizard, I didn't know that Monitors were available as pets or even suitable to be so.
You can find them in specialty reptile shops or breeders, though without constant handling, they may become aggressive. I'm not sure about the city of Chicago, but many places have restrictions on certain exotic animals, or require a special license to own one.
Christ he's growing quickly, how long do they grow for?
I see he's still very led back too :-)

He'll probably be growing for a few years, and will reach a length of 4 feet. And he's VERY tame.

OH man! Spot is *Cool*! I have a turtle named Sparky Darwin, but he's not cool like that. What do you feed him?

Right now, I'm feeding him thawed fuzzies and crickets, with thinly cut strips of meat and boiled eggs as treats.

Is that a Savannah Monitor?
I had one of those. He got to about 4 feet. Got expensive buying baby piglets to feed him

How often did you feed him? I was thinking rats and steak. I know variety is important in their diet.
