Actually the story I heard was that it was cocoon that landed on Pulse and proceeded to interrupt that natural flow of the population there. Kind of like going against the prime directive in Star Trek.

i'm starting to think that they should've made lightning a little more womanly...like ok dont change her face , her clothes, but those legs are anorexic x.x and in general I believe that there was big space for better character design. Inluding their outfits also. I wonder what concept they were based on to keep this style. It's quite boring to see almost the same characters over FFs with just some slight changes in their features

Square-enix doesn't it's more money for them if it's on two consoles instead of one. your train of thought is outdated. you'd think people would enjoy it going onto another console, i have some friends who only have xbox360 and i have some friends who only have ps3. now they both can have a conversation about how good the game is.
