@Renessme4eva actually santa is the word for Saint in Spanish (which oringates from Latin) and I dont speak of things I know nothing about so I cant say for sure whether or not santa is the name for saint in italian... I could google it I'm sure and claim credit for knowing. Anyway, San is the spanish term for a male-saint, and santa is the name for a female saint in spanish... I'm sure the Italian (also derived from Latin) version isn't that much farther...

In this case, it was not a feminine suffix; the word evolved into Santa, which only coincidentally looks like the feminine form of saint in some languages.

(The Dutch word does come from the same origins as the Spanish and Portuguese, incidentally; most Germanic languages borrowed this Romance word and made it their own.)
