i tried to play this with my own DL4, and the 14 second loop was not long enough to play the loop you played at the tempo you played it. how did you do it??
i really like this guys style. the video audio made it sound a bit harsh, but still awesome. i wonder what it'd sound like in real life. amazing playing.
You can use a basic digital delay on the DL4 with the loop engaged. You dont however have access to all the delay modes. I am using i think a Boss GT6 to produce the other delay in this video
I dont know. This was ages ago, my rig looks quite different now. Check out some more up to date vids!!! The loop function on the DL4 is quite handy! thanks for the comment
Yeh I tend to use delay on any remolo picking part i do in this song. Settings wise Im not sure, nothing fancy just a basic digital delay in sync with the bpm of the song via a tap tempo button.
its a nice song man. i have just got line 6 delay pedal too. but i cant use my loop function effectively. i play somethin to record.... and i press the button to record/ play back. and it does record and playing back, so far so good....=) but when it plays back it stops for 3 seconds because it cuts the signal when i press the record button. it does not sound like in this vid. it just stops for2-3 second and play me back again....do you know what can i do? (excuse my english hope younderstand
LINE 6 DELAY You have to step on rec/overdub at the exact second you start your loop and step on play/stop the exact second you stop. Start on the one and stop at one. it takes a little practice.
Man, thanks for this - I didn't even consider whacking it into half-time - I thought 13 seconds would be the limit in either mode.
It's a great bit of kit, especially as the dual inputs allow you to loop combinations of mic and guitar and overdub your own harmonies. Now I have double the
I love what you are doing here. Reminds me of Sigur Ros and Godspeed You Black Emperor. The future's bright, the future's Vinyl
I got a friend who's been watching your vids with the flextone II. He wants to buy one but they dont make 'em anymore. Is the flextone III comparable to the flextone II?
I would say the Line 6 Flextone III is probably better. It has a better interface, wider range of effects and settings. It also has a much better floorbaord controller, which offers much easier control of the amp. In short if I was buying them again, I would get the Flextone III. The flextone II is good however, I still use it alot despite owning a Hiwatt and Mesa Boogie.
this sounds really impressive. id love to know how to produce even half of these sounds. would you mind telling me what sort of effect that you use at 1:59. it sounds wicked.
inspired me to pick up my gibson again. thank you. im probably going to start recording again just because of this opening the window and bringing me back to what my love of music was about. the possibilities. i really think that where your band will succeed is where you innovate and if you keep doing this then youre well on your way.

I do enjoy messin around with pedals. I like the DL4 for certain sounds. But I very agrew with you there r better pedals on the market. I am also using a TC Electronics Nova Delay and Keeley DD-3. I hav my aye on a few other analog boutique delay boxes.
Just lock yoursef away in a room and mess about with it. Slapback delays are simple, just have a very short delay time to produce the slapback effect and have the effect volume up fairly high.
I have a Flextone III XL and was thinking of purchasing a verbzilla to use the Octo effect. My question is, should I run that in the effects lool. It looks like yuo run a lot of effects - do you run them all through the effects loop? If so which amp model do you use?
I run some effects in front fo the amp, i.e overdrive pedals, wahs, whammy, compressors etc. Then others thru the effects loop e.g. delay, reverb, phasers, chorus etc, so depends on the effect.
As for amp model, I have no idea dude, I currently use a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb and Hiwatt head in my live rig, so the Line 6 gets used less and less. I also bought and programmed it YEARS ago, so have no idea hat I programmed in anymore, good tones form it tho!
Important to know that the loop function on the DL4 is somewhat of a secondary bonus. It is very much primarily a delay pedal with looping capabilities as opposed to a loop pedal. I would look at the Boss RC Series, and the new Line 6 pedal if your to play around more at home than on stage.
Age old question dude....no answer for you. They are fairly similar, but each hav features the other doesnt. Also look at the TC Electronic Nova Delay dude, similar price and features. I have the Nova and the DL4 very happy with both.
Haha yup, poor camera placement on my part!! Couldnt be bothered recording the video again so decided to post it anyways. Next time Ill wear tighter trousers for my 80's hair metal wardrobe :-)
Very close to picking up a DL4 after seeing the guitarist from From Monuments to Masses use one the other week in Manchester, but this might have just pushed me over the edge. What an amazing sound. Checking out your band now on myspace!
Haha no problem. I'm a guitarist and listen to pretty much the same bands as you (looking at the influences on your myspace page) and currently trying to buy a few pedals to help develop my sounds (I currently have a digitech digi delay, ernie ball volume, some sort of crybaby wah (don't know model offhand) and a bunch of crappy amp effects) Anyhow, I'm thinking of getting a reverb or phase shifter sort of pedal, I was wondering what you think I should get first?
Im a big fan of reverb on my clean tones to give things depth. Try the TC Electronic Nova Reverb.
Phase pedals are more fun initially and are defo cool, but I reckon you will use the reverb pedal more in the long run. Learning to combine ur delay and reverbs really helps in making good guitar tone in my opinion.
Alright, sounds good. My friend is letting me borrow his PH-3 Phase Shifter for a little so I'll get my chance to fool around with it for a little while and see how I like it. I do have a decent reverb on my amp so Its not to high of a priority especially since I'm still in high school and get like 24 American dollars, dunno what the equivalent of that would be for you. (basically Every five weeks I'll have enough for a new pedal xD) But my phase/flange type effects are terrible so yeah. Thanks
Yeh I have heard/rad alot of about that dude. I have been using mine at gigs/rehearsal/in the studio for about 2 years now and its never failed me. Must just be a hit or miss thing with the reliability. Cheers
Hahah, this is just me messing about dude with my practice amp. Full setup = PRS Singlecut + Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Head + vintage Hiwatt head + gig rig pro 14 analog switching system + 20plus stompers connected using gold plated george L cables.
Why is it a waste of money? Nice guitar, awesome tube amps, nice analog pedals, good quality cables plus awesome analog switching system. What do u play thats better?
Definetly not waisted. It's pure enterainment I spend a good deal on my toys too. I love loops and many different sounds rather the same boring one if you have not gotten to this point then you are not a Musician or you just haven't played enough material and nothing is old to you yet.
Not doing anything fancy for the tremolo pickin dude, I just the same delay I had on for the inital riff for the clean remolo pickin and then turn on an overdrive pedal for the heavier trem pickin. I just play fairly high up and reasonably fast i think that might produce the 'shimmering' sound. Cheers
I have a few different methods depending on how many pedals I am using. In my full rig I use a shitload and I use a combination of GigRig products to power everything, Gig Rig power generator, power ditriubutr and virtual batteries
I dont agree dude. I have had mine for years and I still finding myself using it occasionally despite using a Mesa Boogie tremoverb head and a hiwatt 100 head in my full rig. My bandmates who also play mesa boogie amps (Roadking and a Tri Axis, 2:Ninety rack setup) also own flextones and they still use them aswell. If your willing to spend time with them (a most guitar players arent) tweaking the dials u can get some decent tones from them.
hmm..but mines seems really dead in all the settings, its just lacking alot of tone on mine, its surely not the guitar. Even with the volume up high it feels completely dry and weak. Yours sure sounds good, mines probably at the end of its life.
Not sure what the prob is dude. Feel wise in my opinion all digital amps have less feel than tube amps, but I dont feel they are devoid of it. Dry and weak defo sounds liek rubbish settings dude! I do admit that rather alot of time needs spent to squeeze good tone from it, but it can be done. Watch the video on my homepage called Placido Disc, myself and the 2 other guitar players r using on flextones in that video and we get a wide range of tones. cheers
sure do envy you, its probably the speakers cause has a bit of brown stain like things on them, possibly mold. But i enjoy my vintage fenders and oranges a bit more than the flextone i have.
Hahh defo dude, I do much prefer using my Mesa Boogie and vintage Hiwatt myself, so I can see where ur coming from lol! I love old fender amps. Not had much exposure to older orange stuff I admit. Happy playing dude. Cheers
aye the old fender amps are amazing, and its not a old orange haha, probably either i replace the speakers in the line 6 or ill try to wash out the the mold from it, haha cheers.
hey, the dd-7 just came in today once i get my bros digital camera ill film the covers and demos also im getting the RV-5 on my next trip to guitar center 10% off next boss pedal!!! one quick question in the signal path should delay/the looper come first or after reverb pedal? and do you no wut your delay settings were in this?
Rverb should always be last in the signal path. Delay should be second last. I also put delays and reverbs in the amps fx loop.
No idea what the delay setting swere dude. Its just a standard delay sound, I used the tap tempo button to get the delay in time with what I am playing.
Dude, I live in Brazil. I'm in doubt. I don't know if I buy Line 6 DL4 or Boss DD20 or E.H. Memory Man with Hazarai. I need this Loop Function, but here the DL4 is more expensive than the others. What do you advise for me ?
If you need the loop and delay in one box then the DL4 is great.
If your buying just a delay pedal I would buy (and have bought)a TC Electronic Nova Delay pedal, its awesome. Then buy a dedicated Loop pedal like one of the Boss RC series pedals.
The DD20 is good also, not a fan of the Memory Man.
You get 14 seconds of looping memory in normal playback mode. If you engage half time playback mode before you record the loop you can record 28 seconds.
No u need additional effects for this sound dude, another delay pedal, reverb, an overdrive and an ebow.
My setup comprises of a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Head and a vintage Hiwatt Head connected to stereo Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12 cab, switched using a Radial Tonebone Headbone VT controlled by a Gig Rig Pro 14. I use 20+ stomp boxes.
Hey man. I liek my DL4, i have never had any probs with it. Had mine for about 2 years now. I havent played the DD7 yet, I have had a quick look a my local store but not in the market for a delay pedal so didnt bother playing it. So not sure of how well it functions as a loop pedal.
If your looking to play loops you should probs look at buying a loop pedal man, liek the Boss RC series pedals. I only mess about with loops on the DL4, it wasnt a factor in buying one.
Yeh eventually we will get round to recording it at rehearsal dude. The middle section of the song (without intro and outro, and the guitar solo) is up on myspace.
I have a few ACDC Power banks, relatively cheap 5 output 9V units that I use for when I am messing around at home. Similar design to the Jim Dunlop Power Brick. In my live setup the Gig Rig Power generator powers all my pedals via the Gig Rig Pro 14. The power is daisy chained from a 9V output at the side of the Pro 14
so i went to the store to try out the tc you recommended to me and yea fuck dude thanks so much. i walked out with it even though i barely had enough. it's the best delay i've had so far. the dl4 is good for like swells and things like that i find but this tc makes it look like shit for the money.
anyway thanks so much man b/c i'm a delay whore and i couldn't find a delay i liked for my new rig and now I'm set.
thanks for the recommendation :) --> nd-1 = orgasm

Why is it a waste of money? Nice guitar, awesome tube amps, nice analog pedals, good quality cables plus awesome analog switching system. What do u play thats better?

He got burned!! hahaha nice gear man!
soupoftheday241 3 years ago 2
Definetly not waisted. It's pure enterainment I spend a good deal on my toys too. I love loops and many different sounds rather the same boring one if you have not gotten to this point then you are not a Musician or you just haven't played enough material and nothing is old to you yet.

gold plated cables make any difference?

How long does that pedal delay for?
PayasoLocaso 3 years ago
Not sure, google it dude.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
14 seconds.
bravelittlebeemer 3 years ago
Lol random comment. Rememeber if u put the pedal on half time mode before you record your loop u can actually record 28 seconds. Cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
awesome video, I love the tone you get out of your gear.

Hello men!!! Awesome melody!!!!Can you send me the tabs please? How many years are you playing the guitar?
I hope your answer...
Beautiful sound!
Bye!

nice ass... oh sorry i ment nice pedal yes, i want one :))
soundangel13 3 years ago
hey very nice.. what are you doing on the tremolo picked melody for that weird shimmery sound? is that just a pitchshifter and reverb?
sydb 3 years ago
Not doing anything fancy for the tremolo pickin dude, I just the same delay I had on for the inital riff for the clean remolo pickin and then turn on an overdrive pedal for the heavier trem pickin. I just play fairly high up and reasonably fast i think that might produce the 'shimmering' sound. Cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
how do you power all them? im guessing ac adapter.
freemanfreiman 3 years ago
I have a few different methods depending on how many pedals I am using. In my full rig I use a shitload and I use a combination of GigRig products to power everything, Gig Rig power generator, power ditriubutr and virtual batteries
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
oh i hate the flextone -_- i used to own one the thing has no tone, feels dead.
thewellgoodshow 3 years ago
I dont agree dude. I have had mine for years and I still finding myself using it occasionally despite using a Mesa Boogie tremoverb head and a hiwatt 100 head in my full rig. My bandmates who also play mesa boogie amps (Roadking and a Tri Axis, 2:Ninety rack setup) also own flextones and they still use them aswell. If your willing to spend time with them (a most guitar players arent) tweaking the dials u can get some decent tones from them.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
hmm..but mines seems really dead in all the settings, its just lacking alot of tone on mine, its surely not the guitar. Even with the volume up high it feels completely dry and weak. Yours sure sounds good, mines probably at the end of its life.
thewellgoodshow 3 years ago
Not sure what the prob is dude. Feel wise in my opinion all digital amps have less feel than tube amps, but I dont feel they are devoid of it. Dry and weak defo sounds liek rubbish settings dude! I do admit that rather alot of time needs spent to squeeze good tone from it, but it can be done. Watch the video on my homepage called Placido Disc, myself and the 2 other guitar players r using on flextones in that video and we get a wide range of tones. cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
sure do envy you, its probably the speakers cause has a bit of brown stain like things on them, possibly mold. But i enjoy my vintage fenders and oranges a bit more than the flextone i have.
thewellgoodshow 3 years ago
Hahh defo dude, I do much prefer using my Mesa Boogie and vintage Hiwatt myself, so I can see where ur coming from lol! I love old fender amps. Not had much exposure to older orange stuff I admit. Happy playing dude. Cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
aye the old fender amps are amazing, and its not a old orange haha, probably either i replace the speakers in the line 6 or ill try to wash out the the mold from it, haha cheers.

wow!
julantro 3 years ago
how do you set up all those effects on stage?
do u have some kind of massive power supply or anythin?
judasthelion 3 years ago
This setup doesnt resemble my live rig. I dont use the Line 6 amp or the Boss GT6 in my live setup dude, this is just my home practice rig.
Watch some of my more recent vids and u will see the roper rig: Hiwatt 100 Head + Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Head + Gig Rig Pro 14 + approx 20 pedals!!
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
im just sayin you've gotta be some kind of monster to pull out that low down dirty dog looping
judasthelion 3 years ago
Hahah right ok. Cheers man
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
you monster

Cool nice one.
Rverb should always be last in the signal path. Delay should be second last. I also put delays and reverbs in the amps fx loop.
No idea what the delay setting swere dude. Its just a standard delay sound, I used the tap tempo button to get the delay in time with what I am playing.
Look forward to your videos. Cheers

dude that pedal is so sick!
discodan1251 3 years ago
Dude, I live in Brazil. I'm in doubt. I don't know if I buy Line 6 DL4 or Boss DD20 or E.H. Memory Man with Hazarai. I need this Loop Function, but here the DL4 is more expensive than the others. What do you advise for me ?
Sorry about my english and thanks.
minduimhc 3 years ago
If you need the loop and delay in one box then the DL4 is great.
If your buying just a delay pedal I would buy (and have bought)a TC Electronic Nova Delay pedal, its awesome. Then buy a dedicated Loop pedal like one of the Boss RC series pedals.
The DD20 is good also, not a fan of the Memory Man.
And your English is perfect.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
my english is terrible... i hope you understand what i want to ask you...
how much time you have for looping?
yureigp 3 years ago
Your English is good dude.
You get 14 seconds of looping memory in normal playback mode. If you engage half time playback mode before you record the loop you can record 28 seconds.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
can you make this sound with only the DL4??can you say to me what is your setup?
toke182 3 years ago
No u need additional effects for this sound dude, another delay pedal, reverb, an overdrive and an ebow.
My setup comprises of a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Head and a vintage Hiwatt Head connected to stereo Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12 cab, switched using a Radial Tonebone Headbone VT controlled by a Gig Rig Pro 14. I use 20+ stomp boxes.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
i want your pedal setup. i just recently bought a dl4, i only have that and a distortion pedal but its definately alot of fun
skateplayguitar 3 years ago
You need a pedalboard!
jacksoncustomshop 3 years ago
hey i tried playing this on the dl4 for the first time at guitar center in seattle
it was umm....very weird
like i couldnt get the timing down when trying to loop
the guy who was trying to sell me one said i shouldnt buy it because there were so many returns of the dl4 and because they break easily
u think i can do this with the new boss dd7?
StanwoodSpartans 3 years ago
I only mess about with loops on the DL4, it wasnt a factor in buying one.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
u guys ever gonna do a rough recording
of never run with scissors?
ic300x 3 years ago
Yeh eventually we will get round to recording it at rehearsal dude. The middle section of the song (without intro and outro, and the guitar solo) is up on myspace.
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
this is straight up a bad ass composition dude. killer .
thedeathmachine666 3 years ago
you using dunlop power brick in this?
and what brand do you use
to daisy chain or w/e from the 9v input of the pedal into the power brick or gigrig or generator?
ic300x 3 years ago
I have a few ACDC Power banks, relatively cheap 5 output 9V units that I use for when I am messing around at home. Similar design to the Jim Dunlop Power Brick. In my live setup the Gig Rig Power generator powers all my pedals via the Gig Rig Pro 14. The power is daisy chained from a 9V output at the side of the Pro 14

sounds real familiar, like something from coldplay

hey man,
so i went to the store to try out the tc you recommended to me and yea fuck dude thanks so much. i walked out with it even though i barely had enough. it's the best delay i've had so far. the dl4 is good for like swells and things like that i find but this tc makes it look like shit for the money.
anyway thanks so much man b/c i'm a delay whore and i couldn't find a delay i liked for my new rig and now I'm set.
thanks for the recommendation :) --> nd-1 = orgasm

Haha nice one dude, glad to help. I agree the DL4 is very good, but I am also loving my Nova Delay
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago

Local music store...or online dude.
