  • Update. I have a set of 85hp carbs for sale! I already have a 85hp motor so could do with oversized pistons. Anyone? I heard wiseco manufacture these but until I can get some £££ to throw at it can't continue. Determined to return it to sewing machine smoothness ready to sell..

  • Curiosity got the better of me, whipped off the head and lower cylinder scored. Probably got broken ring too. Definitely needs rebore and oversized pistons. If I buy new pistons I'm gonna get the 85hp ones so I can use the 85hp carb's and reeds I already have. Will post a few piccies soon.

  • I will need a complete gasket set to rebuild this engine and probably a new exhaust fire plate. I believe most of the cooling water is being pumped up and escaping through this plate rather than cooling the engine. I'm keen to whip off the head to see the damage but will wait just a while to establish a work area (other than on the back of the boat). Boat needs new floor too. Lots on the list but I love this kinda project.

  • I know what your saying @MrMrtiki, but I custom re-wired the engine/boat electrics to take advantage of all the engines facilities as opposed to the standard key (push to choke) key which I now use as a emergency backup. I sure will never manual start this lump. Just recovered the boat after trailer failure so another item on the list to fix.

  • are you pushing the key in while turning sounds like choke not working

  • If you need any info on this motor I have the Mechanic book ,I still have this motor from new had not one problem till last fall when the fuel diaphram finally quit can get any part to for this .

  • Hi @carcrusher001, might take u up on that offer. I've been offered the block/pistons my set of carb's came from for a small fee but ain't allowed to spend any money on it. While I'm on a fixing mood, I'd kinda like to fix the boat floor too despite repeatedly asking folk not to walk on certain areas it's now in poor shape. Im in 2 minds, scrap or fix. Only reason to scrap is that it's not got ptt.

  • NOOOOOOO. ITS A CHRYSLER IT WILL NEVER DIE. best out boards ever made. sure they had the quircks like the cdi pack going bad, but you convert it to a car coil and they will literally run for ever. honestly i have thousands of hours on a 70hp chrysler and it sit unwinterized(other than making sure theres no water in it)alll winter long, but in the spring, as soon as the starter motor hits the fly wheel. BOOM it fires right up and idles right down. I love these motors. If u need parts message me

  • And... It's broke. Engine seized at high rev's despite carefully warming up. Will asses damage later but good excuse to fit those 85hp carb's/reeds, with the potential rebore/hone and/or oversized pistons. Will be good as new.

  • Just secured a set of carb's and reeds from a 85hp outboard, my 70hp now just got 15 more horses. Wahoo!!

  • All fixed! Turns out pump shell had corroded.
