@JoeHensson I know what you mean but its quite unusual for a pattern based sequencer to hold notes, it's more like something you would expect from a linear sequencer like Cubase or Logic etc. If notes were to linger on too long it would be difficult to move to blocks on different chords or keys without it sounding a mess. The key to Aurora is wise use of the Note Length feature to obtain longer more interesting patterns.

Just a word of note. You can increase the duration of notes in the sequencer easily enough (using the ADSR Release time), and in the Sampler so long as sounds are looped. If the sound isn't to your liking you can always assign a synthesizer to a layer and tweak the sound to your hearts content. This is actually one up on my Tenori-On which where I'm stuck with lots of staccato type intstruments that can't be edited.
:-( Putting release-time to max makes the sound fade away in just three seconds.
I mean the gate-time feature looked like a good workaround. But up to 10 or 20 secs would be more like it than the 1 sec given.
Nice warm Strings that can give music quite a bit of deepness. Or for ambient music this app would be perfect. It's already there right in the software, but sustain notes are essential. Even now, when holding down your finger it sustains, but the software doesn't record length.

@pacomacman Yeah I do see what you mean. But even though it be a bit more challenging to work with long notes in this manner, having the option of doing so will open up tremendous possibilities in Aurora.
Also,I believe the name of the "Note Length" option is a bit misleading. For example a whole note is played for a whole measure. What Aurora does is play the note very shortly and then wait until the measure is over and then play the next note.So rather it should be something like "break length"?
@JoeHensson You are technically correct Joe, possibly 'loop speed' would have been better which is what I believe the Tenori-On uses as I'm not sure people would get their heads around 'break length'.
I can see an option to hold the notes as long as the note length coming in useful here, or maybe a longer gate time would be more appropriate?
@pacomacman: Break length is indeed not very good, loop speed sounds great. :-)
Concerning the length, I believe anything that would allow those awesome synth and pad-synth sounds to be played up to 20 secs would be great. Can't wait to see (hear) that...
@pacomacman Come to think of it, to me it seems best to use both the Gate-time and Note-Length Options. Currently the default gate-time is 250ms right? I imagine the gate-time Feature could correspond with the note length. In default mode it would always stay the same, but the max value would vary. So for example: whole notes could go up to say 16 secs but for sixteenth it would only be up to one second and so on. Does that sound practicable?
@pacomacman There is of course a way to hold one or two notes indefinitely during the song, but you have to do it as you are recording to file - if your able to.

Guys, sounds can only be triggered and not held, however you can change a notes release time which makes the sound die away much more slowly. To do this you need to edit the instrument in question, and to do this you need to activate Advanced Mode from the File menu. Once in advanced mode select 'Edit Instrument' from the 'Edit' menu and change the release time in the ADSR screen. This allows notes to last for several seconds.
I am playing with this right now and it's awesome!
What I can't figure out though is how I have sounds play longer in the matrix view. All it gives me is a very short triggering of the sound and then it recedes. Am I missing something?

Other than that, the software is very, very awesome!

Okay, I found the gate time option, but 1 second is not the longest a note can be held, is it?
