This song meant a lot to me years ago. Spoke of things in my life. Great album I still have the LP. Wish she would have done more.... Stevies best music was with Sandy.
This song meant a lot to me back in the day, spoke about everything in my life. Great album too. Wish she would have done more, and I think Stevie's best music was with Sandy.
Back in the pre-reality TV days when video music channels actually played music videos. Cat Dancer is out on cd and it sounds great! Thanks to the poster this really takes me back, so great to see Sandy and Dave again.
@shanemiro Do we know for a fact that Stevie and Sandy ever had a falling out? It seems I’ve read this even before Trouble In Shangri-La was released yet, every so often a song that Sandy has written or co-wrote ends up on a Stevie or Mac album.
I've got great news! Supposedly, the record label called "Wounded Bird" is releasing this album on CD (finally) November 10 this year! If you go to amazon and search, you can pre-order the album.
Wow! I can't believe I found this song! I thought I was just imagining hearing this back in the 80's...I always thought it was Martha Davis solo...thanks for posting this!!
My father actually dated Sandy Stewart around the time this video was made. As a child I used to watch a video tape copy that Sandy had given my Dad. Sandy was friends with my Mom, and it's through her that my parents met each other. I guess I have Sandy to thank for being born!
the seting in this video looks kind of like something stevie nicks would devise, by the way i know sandy stewart i email her from time to time she did work for stevie nicks as a PR public relations personel plus writeing songs and some back up for mis nicks, thats enough information to give out so ill stop now , if this ofends anybody im sorry, it wasent ment too! Great to see this video again. I have it on VHS, recorded on one of the very few occasions that MTV played this song. It's one of my all time favorite albums. The LP was released on Feb. 12, 1984. I know this because I bought it the day it was released and put a note inside the cover so I'd remember. I sent a letter to Sandy C/O Modern Records, and much to my surprise, she called me to thank me for the nice words! My answering machine recorded it, I still have the tape today in my archives.

Jeff- You've not posted my comments about her being fat and fifty now. Sounds like you didnt know her. I did. Big mistake on my part. On this album she tried very hard to sound like Chrissie Hynde, whom she greatly admired. Listen carefully and you can hear it. Have you heard her speaking voice? Pure Texas trailer trash.
I usually don't post comments for other people as I haven't ever been aware of being clairvoyant... that also goes for the content of Ms. Stewart's character as well. You're quite right... I didn't/don't know her, so I have no idea what she was/is like. I just enjoy the songs she made and her voice, even if her singing style is influenced by Chrissie Hynde. Thanks for commenting anyways.
To finally see Sandy belting out these vocals and Dave manhandling his guitar is incredible! All the hallmarks of classic 80s videos are here: rain, fog, pillars, swooping cameras, light breaking through veiled windows. The video plays on the ol' heart strings as well. Notice that Sandy's note (obscured in rain) transcribes the opening lines of the song: "Dear David, Don't have to fight; there doesn't have to be a war...." I also have Blue Yonder, but Cat Dancer--in my mind--is a masterpiece.
Thanks for the comment... yeah, I agree that Cat Dancer is a masterpiece. The Blue Yonder LP failed to have the same magical sound... For some reason, I find a lot of the production values and overall "sound" of the early 80's more enjoyable than the late 80's. This album always felt like a cool extension of Stevie Nicks' Wild Heart LP to me.
I think back to MTV in the 80's, turning on the tube and always hearing the VJay saying "...and that (last video) was Sandy Stewart with Saddest Victory". Needless to say, I never EVER got to see this video until now. That's like 20+ years, aint' it? lol
I enjoyed Ms. Stewart's debut (and only) album alot. Glad to see the planets of the universe are coming together to
make this video available for me to FINALLY see.
JeffD8382, you are a miracle worker! Thanks for posting this.
You're very welcome! Glad you finally get to see it! ;) Not sure if you've heard it or not, but Sandy Stewart did actually have a second solo album, although it was billed under the artist/band name "Blue Yonder". If you do some searching online, you can find it and download it... I do much prefer "Cat Dancer" though. Definitely an under-appreciated album.

Thanks for posting this. I've always been a fan of Miss Stewart. It's too bad she only did the 2 albums. IMO she's very underrated.

Stevie and Sandy wrote a few songs years ago and Sandy co- wrote a tune on Stevie's 2001 Troube in Shangri - la
troy2troy 2 years ago
Yes... and the song is "Too Far From Texas", a duet with Dixie Chick Natalie Maines for anyone who's curious.

1983 - The Wild Heart
1984 - Cat Dancer (Stevie on guest vocals)
1987 - Tango In The Night
1994 - Street Angel
2001 - Trouble In Shangri-La
That is almost a span of 20 years.

I don't really know much about sandy stewart but perhaps this song was a hidden message to stevie if they had fallen out at this time...
"so you have won and you have conquered and you have lost a friend indeed..."

I've often wondered the same thing myself... but not really sure about the timing of everything back then.
