I think you are unknowingly treating the sustained part of the lyrics as if it were another instrument - in plainer language, I suppose you are slightly humming along to the tone of the guitar - sort of trying to sync the vocals and instrumental parts together.

Record the guitar part seperately, perhaps with one earphone listening to the original version. Then record the guitar and finally use software to sync them. Easy?!?

This is still the most accurate cover on Youtube. I have heard some very creative renditions, including ones that use power chords and major chords (C,D,G,E and A). But still, this is the only one that is accurate if it were to be played through an amp with effects. Very solid work.

You have a decent voice and your playing is pretty tight. You shouldn't mumble the words so much as it spoils the enjoyment for the listener even if you think it makes sound your voice deeper or whatever (I've noticed singers do that often). Don't force the voice so much. You're pretty much in tune but sometimes controlling your voice less with the potential of going a bit out of tune is a lot nicer to hear.
