  • On this date in 1966 {Feb. 19th} "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 13 weeks in the Top 100...

Written by country music legend Hank Williams; he 1st charted with in in 1949 as the B/side of "My Bucket's Got A Hole In It" and then again in 1966 when it reached #43. Both these times on Billboard's Country chart...

    Other covered versions; Johnny Tillotson {#89 in 1962} and Terry Bradshaw {#91 in 1976}

  • I love this version, but I got so depressed listening to it, I just shot myself...

  • What a total hash of a beautiful song!

  • This is about the saddest song I have ever heard. Classic performance for BJ though.

  • The sadest song ever written. It hits all of us dead center.

  • Very nice indeed a song so true and sad I have felt this way in y life.

  • Great voice

  • @MrNYGOLD I was in the darkest place I had ever been. I was in a mental hosp. due to having chronic medical problems for so many years. This song came into my head when I was so closed up and hopeless. It was so soulful that it touched my soul. BJ Thomas had his hard times then he became a Christian and I was reminded of where he came from and it gave me strength. He was always one of my favorites as a child and it brought back happy memories from my childhood. Thanks for sharing this.

  • he is not hank williams but when this version came out it woke me up

Vários artistas a interpretaram. Entretanto, a gravação do B.J. Thomas antecede a do Elvis. Ele a gravou em 1966, enquanto Elvis a gravou em 1973, no Aloha from Hawaii.

  • the song of my life :(

  • Ummm, like the best version of this song, EVER! BJ takes me to a safe place in my life....wadda voice! Words fail me in trying to express how much I love this voice...

  • Hank's original was way better.

  • The 60s music was the best!!!

  • B.J. Thomas gives the most deeply moving version of Hank Willams imaginable. What a soulful singer. He was MADE to sing this song and he nails it for all time with his quavery voice, so emotionally expressive. Hank Williams was one of the finest songwriters who ever drew breath. Leonard Cohen wrote that Hank Williams was "100 floors above him in the Tower of Song." I'm playing this song night and day in memory of our beagle Star. "The silence of a falling STAR lights up a purple sky."

  • I found this because of Elvis....I AM SOOO GLAD I DID!!!!! This is Fantastic!!! I love him already!!!

  • I do believe this man could sing ANY song and do it justice. What a smooth voice and always a beautiful presentation.

  • Beautiful voice.....Love this one !!!!!!!

  • Sing it B.J. ........your the best !!!!

  • I have never had the pleasure of seeing B. J. live..........But I could play his songs all day( and do sometimes).....Always love to hear his beautiful voice....Please never stop singing B.J., you are the best.

  • I think this is my favorite version

  • One of those rare songs, done by this man, that brings you home to baseline. Seems to touch some deep chords that makes all pretense melt away. Hank Williams wrote it a long time ago but this version brings out the full potential. Very simple song melodically, but so powerful. I feel it every time.

  • Great talent. He is wonderful live!

  • it would be good to see that duet again now with BJ and Kenny...funny but I know who would steal it.

  • Beautiful voice

    beautiful man

  • Such a unique sound.

  • BJThomas is timeless! Thank you for posting video. His voice amazing !Great peformance. Lovely !!!

  • BJ's lonely voice. Best version of this song.

  • hi i would like to say that B J is a man gifted with a voice of feelings that transpose into what some of us feel day by day happiness saddness joy and many others that are in our soul i enjoy all about this man and he has no time limit to his songs for the song sound so meaningfull for the time they were writen to the present ,,,,,,,,shaolin

  • BJ is a great singer

  • To me, there are only three people that could do a song no wrong: Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, and B. J. Thomas.

  • Taking nothing away from Hank Williams, but BJ can flat sing this song! This is the best version I've ever heard of it. BJ sings every song he ever sang like he means it.

  • wow i listen to this over and over he does this song the best

  • wow what a song and what a job by b j

  • What a magnificent voice. Awesome.

  • one of the greatest voices ever to be on this planet. i read once that BJ was Elvis' favorite male singer. he definatly is one of mine.

  • B.J. Thomas could sing the ABC song and make me shiver!! He is the BEST!

  • I am happy in knowing that B.J.Thomas is going to thousand for hoar. It is very great to see in the video. Love you BJ!

  • What a voice.

  • What an absolutely amazing and unparalleled talent. Oh top of it, he is what my people refer to as "muy simpatico" with a gift for touching your very soul.

I hope that the difficult times are all behind him now.

    God bless him.

  • I have always liked Mr Thomas and after listening to his songs again, I remember why he is still a favorite of mine to this day. Thanks for sharing this awesome song here.

  • What a Man.....what a voice....beautiful...thanks for posting. Never forget seeing him in 2000 in my hometown and getting a signed 8x10 pic! What a memorable moment as I was right up front for the concert and a foot away during the signing. Woo hoo!

  • Eduardoirs84,

Could you tell us when B J did this performance?

    Thanks do much for posting.

  • This performance is part of the DVD "BJ Thomas in Concet" which was recorded live in Austin, Texas on October 12th, 2002.

  • @rockyroadsaloon Don't know when this performance was but B.J.'s original cover of this song was back in the 60's when he was still with a group from Houston, Texas called the Triumphs. It was a pretty big regional hit. Not sure how it did nationally.

  • Amen to oviedoc.....

Absolutely the most beautiful song with the best artist EVER!! I get chills everytime I hear this by our love BJ!

  • Amen my brother. You are right on target. BJ takes it to another level, just like Jimi did with All Along The Watchtower. No doubt about it. Happy Holidays! Terry

  • magnificent. NO offense to anyone, but this may be one of those rare cases where the original is eclipsed, I dare say even Elvis could NOT top this. Of course Hank's will always, as it should remain legendayr.

  • heard him sing Rain drops on Laugh In whenI was 10. & have an infatuation ever since. Hell he gets better looking with age. And the voice

  • Beautiful comments. Hank Williams (Sr.) wrote this song so long ago and it's a very simple with just a few basic chords, but so much heart. B.J. Thomas brings out it's full potential. Makes me tear up, every time. There's a lot of love in it. God Bless.

  • If I could sign like ANYBODY, I would wanna sign Like B J Thomas !

  • anybody know what his initials stand for?

  • Billy Joe

  • one of the best voices of all time

  • I couldn't agree more . Perfect !

  • Very soulful version of Hank's lovely hillbilly poetry. I am so proud BJ turned his life around all those years ago. He was one of the lucky ones in the music industry who did...and gives God the glory for it! btaylor

  • Great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh yea!!!!! sing it B.J!

  • I saw B.J. Thomas in concert at Six Flags Over Texas in the '70s and he still looks and sounds as good as ever!
