interesting that people are so hung up on sound and turbos that they miss the fact that this car is a faster, more competent car on track with a more advanced, more efficient drive train.
I won't for a second deny this car's capability and usable, real world performance but it's sad to know that the days of the E39 are gone. BMW's just completely changed recipes on us. I miss the simplicity.
You must have never heard the old V10 in person, there is no denying the V10 was powerful, but it sounded pitiful, sounded like a G37. That is why everyone that had the old M5 changed the muffler system. This is the only thing all M's needed to be complete and BMW delivered. Now the new M3 has a new muffler system as well.
@jalmonte91 there is no denying that the v10 M5 sounded like a beast with a different muffler, this new m5 wont be able to sound just as because it cant, for one its a 8 cylinder, and for another, its turbocharged, which means the exhaust velocity is reduced, and hence it doesnt sound as loud as say a Naturally aspirated engine.
@arunmfive I'm sure with engine upgrades it would turn the engine into a naturally aspirated race engine which would increase exhaust velocity which would make the sound much much better : )
like say a GT upgrade.. it's like kind of making BMW enthusiast who have the knowledge and power to make it from a basic force induction high performance family car to say full race force induction race car.. like make them do it.. forcefully : )
@arunmfive I think BMW is trying to target the business market.. this is AMG performance for half the price and without the loud noise coming from the exhaust everytime it's on.. I too thought the M5 sound was great but after hearing it for a while it starts to get old.. I mean if u can afford this and love the sound race cars make by a used Ferrari..
it sounds beautiful... anything more than that is just unsubtle and remember subtlety is the key behind an m5

The exhaust note is a bit off but it's better than most turbo cars which typically sound like vaccumm cleaners by comparison.

der Sound ist leider etwas öde/langweilig/profan...
S54 (e46 M3) und S85 (e60 M5) klingen im Vergleich z.B. einfach um Welten besser!
Auch der neue 1er M mit seinem R6 hat nen verteufelt guten Sound!
Der neue M5 allerdings... Schade!
(Live hört er sich leider auch nicht besser an)
