  • this is a great song, huge darin fan. Reminds me of some of Stone Temple Pilots stuff as well. long live bobby

  • one of my fav. singers. he could do anykind of music. Even soul. ! What a performer. Too bad he died so young.

  • Lovein the great kiwi!

  • F&%ckin Mean Tune love it! He's pretty mashed too lol :-)

  • thats not expression on his face, hes off his face!

  • Great video! Thank you for posting!

  • and is now an advert for milk in New Zealand, sweet!

  • @JohnnyLightning15 cmon wanna fight fuck up!

  • BRILLIANT ! Love this phase of Darin's incredible career !

  • Bobby Darin, an incredible talent and a great chess player..

  • "WOW" I never saw this before, this is a gem,i really got the Bobby Darin bug big time now,i can't help it,the man and is music are contagious and i don't want healing!

  • This is some of the best work that Bobby done. To be it actually seems he wrote song for himself rather that to satisfy other people. Maybe it wasn't his best work commercially, but it seems to me songs like this and simple song of freedom meant a lot more to him than his others such as splish splash or mack the knife, although they were great songs and his best hits

  • I love it when people cant at least admit that it was impressive that he could write perform and arrange a wide variety of music genres even if you didn't like all of them. If you can't at least say that then go back to watching Glenn beck. Nothing makes me angry like someone saying that music is left-wing or right-wing. Music is the vehicle for ideas, the ideas conveyed doesn't change the quality of the music in anyway.

  • @JGCherokee I remember this song when it first came out and the story behind it. I had the Lp this was on. It was great and Bobby did a fabulous job with the song and sentiment. BTW, I have a BA in Constitutional Law and Jeffersonian era politics. I watch Glenn Beck and quite frankly - he's been very accurate in his analysis of who is doing what and why.

  • @tikijane

Please, write me more "the story behind it" of the song for me. I live far away from America... every point of view, unfortunately. But I'm impressed by your culture so...

  • @balkanigerle there was a prison in arkansas where the jailers were more corrupt than the criminals. prisoners were murdered, starved, worked as slave labor. a man went undercover there as a prisoner, turns out he was the new warden. he had been sent to reform the prison. rent the movie 'brubaker' with robert redford, it will tell the story better than i did.

  • @tranurse

Thank You for your answer. I've downloaded Brubaker. It's a great film, Redford was great also. And it was a surprise to me, that one of my favourite (Cassavetes) actor, Val Avery's starred in, I like his figure so much! It's important to me, that know more about the background of Darin's songs and lyrics. That's why I've read Michael Starr's book of Bobby Darin's life.

All the Best for You - from Hungary:-)

  • @tranurse

Bobby Darin - as I see it: In his last years he'd found himself and his real voice - Rhythm and blues, country, american folk dominated in the songs. Socially, politically, humanly sensitive and active was he. And who knows why, but this amazing performance had not been awarded by the audience. His art is current today (again) and not anachronistic - at least for me. That is why I miss so much, and because more and more trouble in the world, and a sensitive IDOL like him is missing!

  • @silverwbky well, it was his convictions.

  • Is this really better than the 45 version. I could be wrong but I think he's just lip synching it.

    Great tune though.

  • Definitely not a lip sync. The vocal inflections differ in several places from the original 1968 Direction label 45.

  • thanks for this video. I have always loved this song. Thanks again.

  • Praise to darinworld for providing a classic from one of America's finest entertainers, and thanks to Y T for allowing the space, and as always, Rock On Shindiggers!

  • I have a 45rpm copy of this song. This live performance is even greater!

  • I envy you! lol

I have the LP, which is great.

  • I could google-it but maybe you could tell me if the l.p. alo has "Sing A Song Of Freedom". I love those "oddball" albums.

Darin's shift to socially-conscious rock/folk was as smooth as his vocal on "Beyond The Sea". He was totally "real" in that period - his thoughtful philosophizing on the Mike Douglas Show is proof of that.

  • No, that album doesn't "Simple Song Of Freedom" was released as a Demo-Single on Motown records in 1970. The Mike Douglas Shows are great!

  • Im well into this song at the moment. ITs brilliant to see Bobby performing it

  • Great video. Glad Jerry didn't try to make BD water it down. Look at Bobby's face. His expression, those eyes, convey genuine emotion and conviction. We could use Bobby's courage and social comments today! Thanks for the post.

  • thanks for posting this, this is one of my favorite songs that Bobby wrote .He was so very good......
