  • This is "REAL" music not the fake sh*t they play now!!

  • @MrNASCARracing you mean that synthocrap? yea its painfull to hear.

love this old stuff, best way to listen to this is on vinyl though.

  • seen george and the boys in concert. best concert i have ever been to. plus they sound just like the record

  • 11 people must prefer Highway 48

  • I go on highway 49 every day. But be sure to use the I220 bypass around the Jackson hood. Unless you want to get shot!

  • Luv...Luv...Luv...

  • it doesnt get any better, and i been judging for thirty five years - its still the best

  • Thats a good road Highway49 driving into Jackson, Miss.

  • George Thorogood is the blues king . Yes they will be playing George when they carry me out too .

  • This guy is so enjoyable to listen to. I absolutely love the sound and energy he gives out! George will live on !

  • The man has pure talent, plain and simple, seen him in concert 3 encores and the only way he stopped is they turned on the house lights, he still went on, definatly got my money's worth not the like the garbage they have today

  • WOW what a guitar player, so did not get the recogntion he so deserves, Seen him in concert, 3 encores and the only way he stopped was someone turned on the lights and he still continued, real showman, pure talent, so lacking now

  • i live on hwy 49N

  • @brandonborick So do I!

  • Why's this mofo got more views than the original?

  • @01frosts cuz you touch yourself at night stupid fuck

  • the guy rocks. when he comes around my area i am so there

  • Saw George on the 50 states in 50 days tour, House of BLue lights.....

  • Blues rock electricity...bad to the marrow.

  • The first time I saw him was in the early 80s-and I have been listening since then-I am glad people finally started to know who he was-when I saw him he played a mean sax then too for his performance-

  • Seems to me that I have a recording somewhere of Elmore James doing Dust my Broom.

  • @kristjenm Big Joe Willimas wrote and recorded "Highway 49 Blues" in 1935. Robert Johnson wrote and recorded "Dust My Broom " in 1936. That's not to say that both songs had not been performed over and over in juke joints all over the south. It was common for the traveling blues men to "borrow" from each other. No telling which came first.

  • anyone know where you can get this dvd ?

  • 1981 JFK Stadium in Philly, George and Journey (who was big at that time) opened for the Stones. George got the crowd worked up in such a frenzie that they almost booed Journey off the stage.

  • im a george thorgood fan but this song ripped off dust my broom

  • @kristjenM Thorogood did not rip off Dust My Broom, Joe Lee Williams wrote Highway 49. Indeed, it does contain some bits of Dust My Broom, which was first recorded in 1936 and written by Robert Johnson or perhaps Elmore James.

  • @kristjenM its a 12-bar blues, many of them can sound similar because the progressions are the same, but I don't think George meant to rip off the song.

  • @pattyboy15 im not saying that hes bad or anything im just saying that it does have a couple of riffs that sound alot the same.oh and this question is kinda random but do u know what tuning hes in

  • @kristjenM he is bad - he's fucking bad to the bone!

  • @SecretMurder ofcourse its george therogood

  • @kristjenM open D. Both this song and dust my broom are standard I IV V 12 bar blues progressions in D that's the similarity. I do believe.

  • You could drop George into a Delta juke-joint, in the thirties, and he would not be out of place.

  • The Hound was a major influence on Lonesome George. "Everybody know the Hound"!

  • he channeld some hound dog taylor in this song

  • howlin wolf's version is 100x better

  • @coolhandloc1 Yeah but is Howlin Wolf still playing it live in Bars? You have to give George credit for keeping this music alive for all of us.

  • fuck this a good band

  • @slaver333 you are who is shit

  • I'm soooooo sorry George that Tulsa was such a let down for you. Not only did your band have to leave the stage when than fat chick started wailing on her man in the balcony but the fat audience couldn't even make it to their feet when you rocked you A** off. I WAS up on my feet! I'm not from here but am stuck here and appreciated you're preformance. Thanks for tossing me your slide. Been listening to you before '77. Love you~

  • look george gives his tribute to all the greats and everytime he sings one of those songs he is giving tribute to his heros.

  • What's that song where he says "Hey, can I stay here for a few nights? I dunno man, lemme ask my wife. You look kinda funny man, I dunno. Everybody's funny, you funny too"

    Humbucker's 4-Ever !! Nice Destroyer Les Paul Lead !!

Hail Yeeeaaah !! The Alcoholic's Best Friend - George Thorogood

    (tippin' the bottle)

  • Sorry, but its not a Les Paul, and they're P-90's, not humbuckers.

  • Actually, i take that back, I hadn't watched the whole clip.....(shuffles off, head down....)

  • I think it's a Gibson 135. Later they made them with P-100's. This model is now out off production.

  • everybody plays covers

  • Friggin deadly song...Idon't care if he stole it or not!!

  • Quand la musique est bonne!

  • has a little taste of hound-dog taylor...

  • everyone needs to just shut the hell up and enjoy a great song no matter where it came from

  • a-men brother haha

  • Great job, George!

Everything in rock and roll is both tradition or theft

  • OOOOH YEA!!!

  • This is "Black Cat Bone" by Johnny Winter but with different lyrics. Even Tommy Shannon's bass is the same. Great song though.

  • Howlin' Wolf - Highway 49. A typical Elmore James slide riff put to lyrics by Chester Burnett. Johnny Winter used this too, but about 25 years after it was established.

  • Thorogood basiclly stole everything he dose, but he pus on a good show.

  • hardly could say stole when he gives credit constantly where its due

  • oops sorry I gave it a thumbs down by mistake. I agree with you.

  • Whoops, that last one was for Smelly,

but once again Youtube did its own thing.

Anyway, Keep up the good work GT.

  • Been a "Lonesome George" fan for years, and I never heard him sing this one.

    Thanks for posting!!!

  • does anyone have the lyrics? i don't understand the third and fourth verses

    -the ghoul

  • George still 'Bad to the Bone' great slide !

  • best version after Elmore james....real slide blues....

  • Great fuckin band!

  • this is so good im hula dancing round room....aloha!

  • tey elmore james or hound dog taylor

  • you guys wouldnt know the blues if they walked up and smacked you in the mouth

  • The blues might not come from Delaware but the Delaware Destroyers do and they definitely know how to play the Blues. You can take that to the bank...

  • Not bad...but the blues doesn't come from Deleware... if you really want to see a real bluesman check out Floyd Lee at Ground Zero (same location)...Part of the Full Moon Lightnin documentary about Floyd. You can't match Floyd's voice along with Joel Poluck and his slide work. Oh and through in the legendary Sam Carr on drums.

  • yeah, blues doesn't come from delaware, it comes from youtube.

  • LMMFAO!!!

  • George sounds better now, I think, than when he was first having those hits. A bit of craggy Dylan in his voice and it works...

  • Howl brother howl.

  • He,s wearin my Dam Fedora Hat George is with the Red Feather in it I bought in Nawlins in July 2003 when i was in the USA Bugger lol Om from Australia play those Mean blues George Love it

    Dave Penetana.

  • Blues.

I couldn't say it better if i tried.

  • Go ahead anyway. We all need to try...

  • if you wan't to hear some great blues check out Jim Suhler( destroyer guitarist ). He plays with his band monkey beat on his free time.

  • im fifteen, and have been bad to the bone since i first heard it!

  • SLIDE ON, GEORGE, SLIDE ON !!(With many thanks to Elmore James & Robert Johnson) !!

  • Thorogood is my favorite classic rocker

  • no,no hes my favorite,lol

  • Fuckin Legend killing it!!!!

  • im 12 and i love it

  • yeah, young people begin to realize the ultimate coolness of the blues again!

  • ya! me too!

  • simply the best

  • still kicking ass after all these years!

  • American Icon!

  • that's burbon, scotch and beer, not a specific kind of beer you tool.

I agree that he does pretty basic things, but as a slide player... i've come to realize something. There is really not that much you can do with a slide compared to playing fingerstyle without one. Give the guy a break xD

  • you a slide player? would you happen to know what tuning this song is in? it would be a big help

  • seems like George is in DADF#AD, the guy with the Les Paul is in standard.

  • I think George usually plays in open G, but I could be wrong

  • I play with a slide. Nah dude, he does not have a Les Paul, he has a Gibson ES-125, sounds to me like he's playing in open "D" I might be wrong but either way it's an open chord.

  • Oh Frick, I thought you meant George had the les paul for a minute, my bad!

  • technically good or not, GT can put on a show and write great songs.

  • George must have had too much "Bourbon, Scotch or Heineken" when he mixed up "Broom"(R.Johnson/Elmore style) and "49" of Big Joe, I'll forgive him for that.

  • You like slide? Try Muddy Waters, Hound Dog Taylor ( a master for george, he said it often) Bob margolin, ,talking about people you can watch videos easily on youtube

  • Good point, willwad re GT-technically, there are better slide players out there-but he's better than I'll probably ever be. ...but in terms of showmanship,GT nailed it. Many purists don't like him, but he's exposed people to the blues and other American roots music. I've seen him in bars and arenas starting in 1978(?), and he's never disappointed. The only thing of his I wasn't too keen on was that Christmas vid from 1981-having what looks like an inebriated John Lee Hooker as Santa Claus?

  • I remember seeing GT back in Massachusetts during the 70's for $2 entry fee and 1st beer free. Those were the days. Thomas, which Homesick James album would you recommend if you could only have one?

  • Thanks man, i didn't realize Elmore was the same way, or that he had a cousin. But i guess you have to give Elmore a break because he was kinda starting that whole slide blues style, so he probably just stuck to the new phenomenon that he stumbled upon. thanks for the info.

  • George Thorogood knows one lick on guitar, that Elmore James lick at the 12th fret. He's a one trick pony and can't even compare to any other decent slide players. If you want to see some real slide playing look up Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, or Derek Trucks. God i hate Thorogood.

  • Att; willwadd...That's all true about being a "One Trick Pony".. the funny thing about it is that Elmore James was a "One Trick Pony" also...! But Elmore had a cousin named "Homesick James" Williamnson who really played a fine slide guitar. "Homesick" made several recent albums, but his very best were made in the late 1960's and early 1970's... I have three of them. Those are hard to find but well worth the effort, use your Internet.

  • I agree with Duane and Rory bein the pinnacle o' sliders, but George is good. I like his tunes and his attitude and playing style. One trick pony, sure, but it's still a sweet ass sounding trick. hehehe...

    God I enjoy his tunes.

  • Yeah..but the slide riff is from Elmore James' DUST MY BROOM...Probably one of the most ripped off blues licks in history.....G.T. rocks it though !!!

  • The Destroyers have the best covers :D

  • george é um dos caras mais roquenrol do mundo...

  • Hey All...I found the full-length DVD that includes this great GT & TD performance on eBay ... I just typed in George Thorogood & Eddie Shaw and "bam"! There is was ... check it out!!!

  • The Destroyers are the absolute baddest. GT ROCKS!

  • These cats, man! They can can groove, rave, and howl with the best of 'em. This is what's happenin'. This is what always gonna be happenin'.

  • Long Live BLUES!

  • shyeah. LONG LIVE THE DESTROYERS!!!

  • Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Awesome George!

  • Awesome. This tune was part of Howlin' Wolf's repetoire.
