Walther, Again a thoughtful minded video, because believe it or not some folks have never heard of fried green tomato's. I have and have forgotten how just darn good they are. So, folks should try this Southern treat, you'll be glad you did.
wow!! look so taste!!! just a question, they are 'green' cause is a special type of tomatoes, or cause they re just 'immature'? thanks a lot for the video!!!!
I’ve heard about Fried Green tomatoes all my life and only just had them a few months ago.
I had some late tomatoes come that were all green, but huge. A cold spell was coming in with snow expected so I picked all those green tomatoes and fried them. They were so good that I just can’t believe I never had them before.
Pwalpar you are a man of many talents - I tuned in for another of your excelllent train videos and got to see your fine cooking skills instead. Wonder who the one grumpy buggard is that disliked this - gotta be an unhappy soul not to like green fried tomatos. Keep up the fine work and thanks for sharing ....
I know you Georgians love you sweet tea. Did you have your sweer tea with that. BTW we have 2 things in common. We love our trains and we love our eats. Btw I seeing if my wife is off work during good friday/ easter weekend so we can make our way to Folkston. I am looking forward to the trip..
Cooking in the kitchen with pwalpar, cooking in the kitchen we go... I am going to have to try this just to say I have done it. Looks like it could be good. I'm always into trying new things...
"A messy cook is a good cook!" You crack me up! I've watched 100's of youtube videos on "How to make...." but I love YOURS the B.E.S.T.!!! Brutally honest, no special equipment, no crappy music in the background...just cooking, home-style! You are just delightful, Sir! xoxo Oh, and I love how you just flung that butter right into the pan...ca-chunk! LOL
LOL Thanks for the Kind comment.. That's me A no frillls traditional cook. I married A Yankee, and had to teach her a lot, and she does most cooking but I occasionally still get in the Kitchen.
@pwalpar Just to let you know, I followed your directions EXACTLY and all Summer long we were enjoying your version of Fried Green Tomatoes!!! I'm sorry for the late reply; I changed email addresses and this went into the old email box. Only 4 months until Fresh Tomato Season! Yeah!!!
Thanks for the compliment. I am delighted to know you like fried green tomatoes and that perhaps I had a bit of influence in that. I better start thinking of what im going to plant soon, Tomatoes will be top on my list for sure
My grandma used to make these every summer. She made them just like you do.My grandpa used to do this with pumpkin blossoms which was also very good. Thanks for sharing this video:)
Yours looked so good I had to try them your way. They were great..nice tip about pre salting them to get out the moisture! I had never done them in butter before, but thought the flavor would be great, so I tried it...wonderful! I had to make several pansful and did not want my butter to burn so I added a tad of oil to make the butter burn slower, but the butter flavor did come thru nicely. Thanks so much.
I thank you for those kind words, I'm glad you liked them. Your right the butter can burn, i was so busy trying to work the camera I almost burned the second batch, I will add some oil next time. Thanks for watching my video.
No, you don't have to use egg. You can if you want to. Some people use egg. it just make a thick browner crust. I like it better just using flour. Theres no set rule. Experiment a bit. Add what ever seasoning you may want. I just dont like to hide the taste of the tomato.
Ever since i saw that film I have been wondering just what sort of meal this would be . Now I know! Thanks for the experience! It all looks very appetising! Pitty we cant try a sample on Youtube!
It's not fair Walter, I've just finished my egg sandwiches, and just sat down to watch your Cook With Walter Video, and it looks absolutely delicious, and something I've never seen before. The only green tomatoes we get over here are unripe red ones, which you can't eat, soI suppose these are a different type that you have over there...5* Bob
No Bob, these are the unripe red ones, LOL I doubt any new versions of tomatoes have came on the market. So your statement the ones you cant eat is in error. Try it Bob, What ya got to loose other than a few mins of your time. Thanks for watching, and sorry bout wetting you appetite LOL Nothing wrong with egg sandwiches though
Well there you are Walter, never too old to learn something new..I shall have to look out for some green ones, and try it.....m-m-m-m-m-m...Thanks for the help...Bob
