That's awesome, also thanks for posting the vid. I've been a fan of lasers since I was a kid in the early 1980s. I remember learning about ruby lasers back in 5th grade and found the whole concept fascinating (photons aligning along the axis of the ruby rod, the flash tube and reflective mirrors on either side)
It's a multi-line laser, so it's a combination of i believe 6 or 7 wavelengths. I don't remember exactly what they were. It can be tuned to a violet-like color to a pale green.
they do...but that was a size of an 18 wheeler...if you mean micro plasma cutting instrument then that should be the way of the future (aka light sabers butter knife? lol)...but for now water jet steel cutting are pretty damn effective.
Probably not for a very very long time. No diode laser that I know of is capable of cutting steel. If you wanted to cut steel with a laser, you'd have to use a fairly large co2 laser.
Yeah, I would've killed (and that says a lot because I'm more against killing than the average person) to go to the London Live 8 concert, and they only played six songs! I can't even imagine what lengths I'd go to to see a full-length Floyd concert. O_O
Pretty awesome video.. I don't know much about lasers themselves, but I DO go to laser shows a lot, and love them with a passion. My local laser dome is currently showing Floyd, Leppelin, Grateful Dead, Rush, and RHCP, which are all my fav bands, so I spend a lot of time there. :)
Thats awesome. I wish there was a place like that in my area. A while back I went to a Floyd laser show and it was really great. Not long after that I saw Roger Waters perform the Dark Side and some other early stuff. It was a really great concert.
Wow, same for me. The first ever laser light show I ever went to was Dark Side, then I saw Roger on October 10th, like a week after the show. The concert was absolutely beeeeeeeeautiful. It was my first concert, so I don't think I can ever fully enjoy another concert again. Plus, I'm totally obsessed with Pink Floyd, so that made the concert soooo much better.
It was my first concert too! The band did a really good job at capturing that Floyd sound, but I still hope they have one more re-union concert. It would be cool to see the real Pink Floyd just once.
Hey, iPig, it's me, Tatsu from WL forums, I have been busy lately and dont' come very often. What's the nm range on that there Argon? give me the details, looks like it's 435.

It burns through paper in under 2 minutes. Just think of the applications!

It was used for DNA sequencing before I got it to use for professional laser shows.

Wattage isn't that high, really.
Although white paper was the worst choice of target. White reflects light energy pretty well.
Probably less than a watt. If it were five watts it would have sliced through that paper in seconds.

oh and something else:
i guess you can burn your hand also on this thing... if it can burn white paper it should also heat/burn you ;), right?
Sheik1111 3 years ago
is such a white-blue laser as powerful as red.. or maybe green ones?
is the laser beam visible at night?
if you have a green 10 mw laser and a red laser. the green one is visible clearly at night. the red one has to be 100mw + to be visible.
how much did u pay for it :D?
Sheik1111 3 years ago
fake. the paper is not burning. nice fake laser.

randomlugia 3 years ago
I dunno what to tell you buddy. It isn't sped up.
The laser is air-cooled and there are three rather large (noisy too) fans blowing air around.

where does the laser point at, when ur not burning the piece of paper .. ?

blue lasers are extremely expensive, and a 400mw argon laser is not very common and even more expensive. THUMBS UP!
azcheron 3 years ago 5
That's a very nice laser!
Is the light coming from an argfon laser visible with the eyes or only with a camera? It looks like light blue, but is it actually that color?
mremmig 4 years ago
Yeah, its visible to our eyes. The camera actually does a really good job at capturing the color of it.
iPig 4 years ago

how much did that cost?
fireandsmoke123 4 years ago
About $11,000 after refurbishment.

iPig 4 years ago
Don't even try to par with these morons. They don't know jack about lasers. That thing must be doing close to 1W! Nice!
hightechstuff2 4 years ago
You must use a yellow or red paper instead of white and will have more fire.
ALBERTOPABLO67 4 years ago
Actually black would be the best, but the point of this video is that the paper is white, therefore making it more difficult to burn.
iPig 4 years ago
you can get lazers that burn stuff for 199.99 at wickedlasers . com
look for the pulsar and the nexus
phazonxl 4 years ago
I know. I have a few, but the power of this laser is greater than the ones they sell. It's also a gas laser, not a diode/DPSS .
iPig 4 years ago
how much power does that thing use and where can i get one
DualNightmare 4 years ago
It uses 240V and a lot of amps. They show up on ebay a lot. This particular one was about $11,00, but much lower power ones can run as cheap as $400.
