I have to say, stop ruining a wonderful song! Hayley Westenra's version is heaps better. The choir and the stupid beat in the background ruins it all. I recon it would be much better just with her voice.

But Te Kanawa hasn't made the song famous. She tried to, but failed. She can't do crossover. Westenra's O Mio Babbino Caro is better known and on more compilation disks than Te Kanawa's Pokarekare Ana, which no one but opera freaks rate. Pokarekare Ana recently featured on a best 500 songs of all time list -- but it wasn't Te Kanawa's version that was rated. It is more likely to be Elizabeth Mavelly or Deborah Wai Kapohe's versions that are famous than Te Kanwa's bland and boring version.

But there are many variants. I see that the translation of the Norwegian bits justifies Sissel's style. This, in a way, is more Sissel's tribute to Pokarekare Ana than just another version of it. I shouldn't have been as critical of her as I was.

but for me the best one is Dame Kiri
cause when you sing something you need to be able to give the person is listening to you all the emotions the song has.
