we have been gone all week on a cruise no news or phone. just found out about the fire and the horses. my wife and i have three horses in the last barn to burn wanted to thank all who risked there lifes to save the horses they are part of our family and have forever homes after there race careers. our hearts go out to all who lost one of these magnificent athletes. also thanks for posting the videos we cried watching all of them but needed to see what happend.
omg this is beyond horrible. just imagining the horses suffering...its foul and disgusting :( i wish there was some way they could of been saved, or hav emade it less painful :,( r.i.p...
i would do anything possible, risk my life to save them.
getting cause instead of calling 911 here they decided to record a video of the fire, so again please get all the facts before you bash someone or an organization, you never know one day they may be the ones coming to save you or someone you know!!!!!!!
@mrshtstarter Your post has been cut off, but I can gather from you saying "instead of calling 911 here they decided to record a video" that you are talking about my boyfriend, Steve Clark. I take personal offense to your statement. My name is Amber and I was there with my Steve (who I am EXTREMELY proud of). I PERSONALLY CALLED 911 AT 4:51am when we saw the fire from the Sheetz.
@mrshtstarter The woman that answered the phone stated they had already been called and help was on the way. When we arrived, which must have been around 4:52 - a fireman was on the main road attempting to hook a hose up to the hydrant. Steve's first video began at 4:53am and you can see what happened from there. Everyone has a cell phone that can take video these days, and his primary focus of taking them was for documentation.
@mr shit starter: His videos have proven valuable, as he has turned them over to the fire marshal to help with his investigation. The fire fighters did a fantastic job, and THEY were the primary focus of Steve’s videos. He couldn’t stop talking about how brave they were. So, I’m not sure where you are getting your information, but it isn’t accurate either.
@mrshtstarter: I have no association with the track, barns, or the fire dept. As we made our way up the hill to start pulling horses, I turned on my phone's video camera. Maybe that was crass, but it is what it is. I still entered a burning building, and helped pull 3 horses. From the moment I left the Sheetz and saw the flames, there was no hesitation on my part to do what I could..
Just to let you know that before you go bashing the fire departments on youtube like a sally sue and posting something that nots even true learn the facts. It was said that the people on scene waited betweeen 20-40 minutes before even calling 911 to report the fire(obviously not very smart). I believe it is recorded that from the time of dispatch and the time the first unit arrived on scene was only 7 minutes, not what you are stating here as 35 minutes, thats the time your...cont next post!
Yes not 50, but still yet a shame, and those barns ARE privately owned I have discovered - who is responsible for the transformer sparking though? That was reported by security who saw it (I read that online on a news link, but am now gunshy about info)
Up date your story. How many horses died? - Not 50- How about 27 and maybe 29. Any lose is tragic. And D.C. news station are reporting maybe set by an arsonist now.??????? We don't know if that's true yet and may never know. But it was not 50 horses. Old barns that aren't part of Charlestown Races and run down and real close to the Casino. Makes you stop and wonder now doesn't it!
Thank you for putting that compilation together with Steve's videos. We didn't have any good software to edit them, so just handed them off to the news crews. Nice job. It was a tough morning for all involved.
God Bless those horses who died! I would think that with plentiful slot revenue, they would have made sure that the wiring was safe!! Shame on the greedy slots!
27 horses died in the tragic accident and yes, it is absolutely heartbreaking. However, these barns may be adjacent to the track but are owned and operated by the horsemen who rent them. The racetrack DOES NOT own these barns and therefore are not held responsible. I worked there and believe me I would be just as enraged as you are but the fire spread too quickly. It is a horse lovers worst nightmare and everyone did all they could. Please do not go off of false information.

hey aly this is all very sad!! I am very upset..... but no the track is not affiliated with these barns but....I worked tonight and nothing was said about it....no tribute no sorry nothing!!! it is reallly upseting!
@horsedude12 very horrible!whats even worse is that the track doesnt care their races go on as normal and they continue to make millions of dollars even though this was all their fault!!!!
@ALYnAPACHE the barns are near the track but are not owned by charles town races, they are privately owned by trainers and are not even on the track grounds.. still sad no matter how you look at it though.
Brought tears to my eyes! Rip poor horses :( x
