What I don't get about these GM hybrids is if they are trying to maximized fuel economy by having a lighter truck why does the Yukon Denali and Escalade Hybrids fitted with full-sized 22" wheels, regular hood, bumper fascia, retractable running boards, automatic liftgate, tow hooks AND a spare wheel. Doesn't seem practical to me to have strip down entry-level hybrids and fully equipped luxury hybrids using the same 2-mode system and performing the same way.

i think its so funny, i drive a diesel car in the UK and i get on average 60MPG, its got a 2ltr engine with about 130bhp. I can cruise on the motorways at 70 - 80mph no problem and have been to germany with it on the autobahn and cruised on there at 110mph. It can seat 7 adults no probs.

When will people realise you don't need a 5.7ltr petrol engine just to go the mall?!

Diesel engines get much better mileage. There must be some reason the USA doesn't have as many diesel pumps as gas. Diesel costs a little more, but the mileage is amazing. The new Honda Accord will be diesel. I think we use gas coz it's only $3.50 here vs. $6-8 in the UK. Gas taxes are high there & u have the CO2 tax. Our U.S. gov. sucks on the environment. :(

I would put them at large cars ... this could go on for days (oh no wait it already has!! lol) The Ford S Max does drive like a car unlike some of the bigger 7 seaters.

I think the USA doesn't have Diesel that much is because it costs more and there is a general mindset in there that bigger is better! Who really in USA wants to be seen driving a small diesel car?!

I think your perception of the USA is skewed a bit. Lately there r a LOT more small cars on the road. I don't live in a city & I've seen those tiny Smart Cars driving around. Many I see r Honda Civics. Big SUVs are worth very little now. That's why they're switching to hybrid-only for big SUVs. Only 20% I see r big SUVs.

One other thing too is our minimum wage here at the federal level is $6.50/hr ($7.25/hr next year) and it's almost $10 in the UK. So when our gas prices go up, it affects the "little guy" a LOT. That's why people here have been ditching their SUVs for smaller vehicles or at least excited about a hybrid.

And diesel is about 20% more than gasoline here. That's not bad at all when you consider you could get 60mpg on that vs. 30mph on a gasoline version.

Sorry for another one, but this has also pushed the USA to invest heavily in battery power with hybrids. Within 10 years they're talking about having cars with 150mpg and all electric to reduce or GET RID of using gas or diesel period. Regardless tho, the USA uses much more oil per person than any country in the world! We've beeb addicted to it like a drug, but we want to get off it badly.

You must remember though about the minimum wage over here maybe the equivilent to $10 an hour but a beer costs like $7 so its all relative. If our prices were the same as yours we'd all be laughing. (hence why my wife and I always holiday either in Canada or USA)

The general largest car over here is something Mazda 6 or a Ford Taurus so something like a Mazda 5 is pretty big for us!

Right, but just a few years ago or so, gas was only $2 a gallon. In 2000 it was a little over $1. But our wages haven't went up enough to account for the higher prices, so coz many of our cars fuel efficiency sucks compared to Europe, it's killing a lot of people here. I work at home & don't drive much. But my only vehicle (big SUV) gets only 13mpg. That's laughable. My point was, higher gas prices are making Honda Civics sell big & dealers have 20+ big SUVs on their lots with no one interested.

Lol - dont moan that there not too harsh about environmental issues - here in the UK it is way over the top CO2 taxes are measured on a sliding scale yet the top band sits at just 225g per km and over - to put that into perspective, a dodge avenger 2.4 runs close to sitting in that catagory - IF you have a var that puts out over 225g you face an annual car tax of up to $900 a year!! - some people are finding that theie cars are worthless because the annual tax is worth more than the car!

Hybrids are nothing but gimmicks. You will not get any more MPGs than a regualr car. A lot of times you will get less MPGs in hybrids than regular cars.You dont need a big engine to get the performance you want. FOrget hybrids. DIESELS ROCK. I agree you can do away with a 1.0L engine and still get the wanted power. The Tahoe should have square wheels.

Your argument is BS. This FULL SIZE SUV gets 6 MPG better City MPG than the closest competitor, including Toyota and Nissan. And they are now priced the sam as gs models. At least GM is trying. Diesel gas also costs at least .50 more per gallon, which negates any mileage increse--using less fuel.

I agree man i get 20 mpg with a 7.3Liter V8 diesel dually pickup truck with a crew cab and 8 ft long bed. The truck weighs over 3 tons and gets the same mpg as a mustang or brand new charger.lol Hybrids are a joke. The environmentalist can't stand the possibility that the best economical green option is diesel powered vehicles . If honda accord was diesel then it would get atleast 50 mpg in the city and more on the highway and thats without any unproven costly battery powered setups

The Power Retractable Assist Boards use on the Denali and Escalade is the best aerodynamic running board GM can install ona SUV. And what about not loosing anyting? Hmmm.... We are loosing the front tow hooks, fog lamps, bigger Chrome wheel option and the luggage rails on the top.

Hybrids are gimmicks. They don't give you any better MPGs. Even though diesel costs more per gallon, they burn a lot less. Diesels are cheaper to operate because of the extremely low fuel burn. Take a VW Jetta TDI, from my test drive experience, I got up to 70MPG's on highways and 58 in the city. So don't tell me this shit that american car factories made great strides.
