Radiohead Wolverhampton 2006 - Let Down

The whole 2006 tour was a treat for the hardcore Radiohead fans. If you caught 'em during the theater tour, you were treated with old, old, old favorites (Let Down, Black Star, Planet Telex) and rare occurences (I Want None of This was only played four times the entire tour! True Love Waits was always played before EIIRP on the final four shows).

I love this song and video, but it demonstrates the one potential problem with having a perfect studio recording of a song. They will never top it.

"Let Down" to me is one of the greatest songs ever written. In history. Ever. There is no doubt in my mind this is the greatest band working today. Arcade Fire, BSS, Animal Collective? Ya gotta bow down to the veterans here. "In Rainbows" was a magnum opus too.

One of my favorite Radiohead songs. So full of depth and interweaving melody, the way the song turns as it nears the climax, the gentle but not overpowering effects used in the album version... it's everything I love about OK Computer-era Radiohead.

Rolling Stone had a great article (don't hear that often) about the evils of sound compression in recent recordings: this song is a perfect example of why songs are better without compression.
