  • *tears* i was planning to come here this summer... =( i didnt know that it got destroy.... at least i enjoyed my self the last time i was there...

  • its about time they fix that shithole.. as nostalgic as it was.. Coney Island became a shithole run by the low class where crime was high as teje area is full of government housing. The government realized too late that they ruined the area by building housing around water front land just as they now realize with the FDR east side NY.

  • What a shitty job to have, tearing down memories.

  • Very well done. I lived in Coney almost all of my life and it is sad to see how Norman Kaufman and Hy Singer let this happen to the land where i grew up

  • They should take a good look at what made the people come there since the 1900 hundreds make it a place where people can go back in time bring back some of the old rides and many of the other things that made coney Island the no.1place to be in the summer in new York

  • Sorry the greatest show on earth with rides to boot

  • Maybe they should all go back and take a real look at what was it that broght the people there in the 1st place it was in all everything a kid could think of think of it a the greati

  • sensational editing. the bit with the bobcat... at first I was like... :\ and then I lol'd.

  • Coney island may have been a small place and not as big as disney land or six flags..but thats what makes it speical..ther just something more to it rather then jsut a regular theme park.. i love coney!!!

  • Coney island may have been a small place and not as big as disney land or six flags..but thats what makes it speical..ther just something more to it rather then jsut a regular theme park.. i love coney!!!

  • coney island has been dead for a long time. owners of the rides didn't make any money anymore because nobody visited CI anymore. how is it anybodies fault but a lack of interest. if anybody wanted to save ci, they should have bought the land and run their own rides. i don't know how it is now, being you shot this video in apr 07, but that area you were videoing was desolate back in the early 80's when i worked there... and if astroland closed that was it, being they were the biggest there...

  • wow man i love coney this is wat makes me love brooklyn man how the fuck r they doin this man im gnna miss c.i my grandma used 2 take me here b4 she died nd its a memory i have with her fuck goverment man

  • well at least the cyclone is there i never knew about dis demolition first time wasnt even a month ago sad sad THE DEMOLITIONERS ARE STUPID MOTHER FUCKING ASSES!!!!

  • Blame that ass hat of a mayor. Why hasn't his dumb ass been impeached yet? He's a fucking retard. LONG LIVE CONEY ISLAND! LONG LIVE CONEY ISLAND!

  • Uhh there just doing there job.

  • its a shame.i grew up in woodhaven and would always visit coney island with my family.i even took my son there, all the way from az where i live now.all old things must fade,,,,,,sigh

  • One powerful piece of work! And to think this was once considered "America's Playground". I spent many wonderful summer days on Coney Island. And now, it's just a sweet memory. It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday. Great post!!!

    Thanx for sharing.

  • This is what happend with usa....

  • did this really happen? dont think me as stupid cuz i dont live here

  • This is real.

  • it was never distroyed i was there yesterday and the other day so it was never distroyed so people dont get your hopes up

  • Liar, this video is proof

But unless your not lieing, then good that it's not destroyed :D

  • Have they really demolished this ? We are visiting this August from the UK & coney island was one of the place's i wanted to visit ( scene of the warriors) will be real dissapointed if it's gone.

  • i live in coney island. its not completely gone and theres some of it left. most of it is a construction yard. its quite dissapointing. this is the last summer of astro land. i visited the scene from the warriors several times just to stand where they stood.

  • Coney island is amazing..and i hope they never destory it not even one single ride...Everything at coney island means so much to me..and some other people brooklyn woudl never be teh same without astroland aka coney island///i never had any fun in brooklyn util i found this amazing park thats whee fun started how the hell will i have fun now?

  • i dont go there for fun. i go there cause its a great place to be because its so lively in the summer and its great.

  • This is a great video, and I despise all of the money-grubbers who are using coney island's future to line their pockets...but people do still go there, as it is pretty crowded today, may 30th...as for the garbage however, that is not the developers fault, because people litter at coney island, including on the beach, as though it were times square on new years. How anyone could litter on or near a beach is beyond me, and this includes smokers throwing their butts in the ocean...uggh.

  • this made me cry, coney is part of my life...

  • Brilliantly done video, great job. It breaks my heart. I only got as far as 3:40 before I had to stop watching, I almost cried.

Thank you for making this, it's really poignant.

  • its like empty. no one wants to go on the rides even or even into the water. its gross now and garbage all over. im sad and happy at the same time that the rides are going down, maybe more people will come and it will be back to the way it was.

  • dude this shit is mad sad. like i live about 10 minutes away from coney island. im only 15 and i been going there since i was a baby. every year this place gets worse and worse. no people whatsoever. and its sad. like in the 40s there were like a billion people there everyday even in winter.

  • New Yorkers should unite to stop the utter destruction of the city, Coney Island being just one place! I left NYC because it was being taken over by a rich and upwardly mobile society that was hell bent on destroying the rich enthic and cultural heritage. New York is hardly affordable anymore for most people.

Despite being a mecca for the arts, fashion, etc. New York is losing its most valuable assets, its native sons and daughters! Wake up NYC before its too late!!

  • Why are they tearing down the heart and souls of our city!?!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?! Im gonna miss it. So many good memories! Its hard not to cry think'n how that park isgone and my aunt just died! I promised we would go one more time........We used to love that lil ghetto ass amusement park lol R.I.P aunt Cindy

  • :'(

  • why cant they just clean it and stuff?? not tear the crap out of that place!!!!

  • some very reason when i think of coney island i remember the warriors

  • very impressive video

  • The park itself is gated. You can't through it until it opens. But then again the security will jump at you. Best thing is to ask for permission before you there. And you should go visit when they open, first, to plan out your shots. Good luck!

  • dude that was a long time ago long time ago its 2009 not 2007 smart one and now there acually destroying astroland ok not in 2007 in 2009 and u suck at camera skills but nice sound effects

  • The video was done in 2007.

  • @serggpimpzz

allow me to help you here.

1: who cares what you think

    that is all

  • to each our own

  • to each our own

  • how can they do this to such a famous place? haha yeah mrSwanz - the warriors were there!! :( x

  • wow

  • I dont understand, why does Coney Island have to be like Six Flags? I love Coney much more than any major theme park. They have long lines ad overprice everything. At coney you get your moneys worth without the lines and still a lot of fun!

  • yeah!! The Warriors were there!!

  • yea!! haha sooooo true (of course)

  • THEY REOPEND THAT

  • Coney Island is more than just an amusement park. It's a community of people who deserve good paying jobs from the redevelopment and affordable housing.

  • save coney island. the REAL coney. and no shopping malls and condos, thanks.

  • Hey listen. Gloom and doom crowd. The cyclone, the freak shows, the wonder weel, and Nathan's hot dogs along with the boardwalk will still be standing. They are taking the projects down and building new stores and attractions on top of the that while preserving the aura that makes Coney Island so special. Stop crying, and start embracing this long deserved face lift. Coney Island will still be Coney Island after it's all said and done.

  • We all know that those you mentioned will stay. This is a propaganda message. We are fighting to preserve the tradion of Coney Island and not let it end up like every-where-else America.

  • also the parachute jump

  • @Pella5000 Yeah, once the yuppies move in and make the place swanky and white washed instead of unique the way it's been. Stop acting like poor and old=bad, it's so American.

  • I am sick and tired of these ohhh noooo they are tearing down Coney Island doom and gloom people. They are not tearing down Coney Island. They are giving it a much deserved face-lift. It's still going to have the "ole-time" feel with a modern 21st century twist. The freak shows, Nathan's Hot dogs, the cyclone, the Wonder Weel, and the old Parachute Jump are all staying up, along with the board walk. They are tearing down the projects and adding a few new rides stores and attractions. Jesus!

  • It's a beautiful video showing progress at work! Coney is finally being cleaned up.

The truth is it's a dump and Thor Equities is making it a great place to live and visit again. Go Bulldozers!!!!! Yaaaaay!

  • I dont think it is really all torn down actually.I think this video is a drastic measure.I myself who lives in Queens am planning on going to Coney Is sometime this month Sept 08.I hope to see some things still there.I heard they have not torn it all down, only small parts.I believe some are still there. So maybe the weekend of the 20th i will go also.

I have never been to Coney Is before in my life and my parents and grandparents have been there.Feel free to write me.

    Brennen

  • i cant watch this i think i am going to cry

  • That will be like new brighton

    Gone

  • it should keep cuz the Warriors

  • This is a great shame. I am going to NYC on the 20/09/08 and was going to spend a day visiting the park and the surrounding area. Can anyone tell me if it is worth going, or should I not bother. Thanks

  • dont even bother

  • dont even bother

  • This is a great shame. I will be in New York City from 20/09/08 from England and was hoping to spend a day looking around the park.Looks like thats not gonna happen. Can anyone tell me if the area is worth a visit or should we not bother.

  • dont even bother

  • Worth to visit

  • this makes my hart bleed, i visit coney island a couple years ago and it was a highlight of my trip to nyc, i told all my friends in belguim to go there, this is so sad !

  • The WHOLE friggin park should be considered a landmark! I went there once when I was a kid, and I'm glad that they're keeping the cyclone and the wheel but so many memories are gonna be demolished T_T Some way I must get to Coney Island before they tear most of it down, for one final trip.

  • my dream has been ruined to ride the coney island cyclone and wonder wheel im 16 and couldnt wait to see them in person looks like its only gonna be a dream for me :(

  • when is coney island going to be back in operation?

  • this really sucks why did they have to destroy it?!?! i mean i've only been to coney once my hole life...Somthing has to be done

  • ive got a lot of memories in coney im going to kill the guy driving that CAT hahaha but seriously does anyone no whos driving it

  • wankers!

  • this is horrible belive it.i come from the city and I take my kids down to coney island almost every weekend in the summer and boy they love it there.I heard they are making the coney island a better more exciting place because in all honesty its sorta run down but I hope they put some good rides there in the future cause I dont want this to be another palisades park story

  • OH NO! T_T Where will I see the Hotdog Eating Contest! NOOOOOOOOOO.....=[

  • mm, never been to new york, live in georgia.. sounds like a great amusement park.. god damn those park tearer downers.. Change is bad.

  • Hotels and casinos are comeing.thats the new alantic city with expansive apartmnets that only europeans can aford. thats the truth!

  • The Warriors will miss the big wheel if it closes:-(

  • it's so sad..i live right across the street from coney island. since its brooklyn theres not much to do, coney island was the only thing i ever did. i heard this year is the last season, and then they are closing it down.

  • ahh good times i used to live on brighton beach

  • very creative way to tell a sad story

  • i went in september.i love it. i just wish it could have been open so i could take my children there.

  • their not going to rebuild it i saw on the news that they were going to built hotels.....are they going to destroy the cyclone and big wheel....cause i never had time to get on the cyclone and the wheel

  • they are not destroying them, they r basically "landmarks" they'll remain open

  • can somebody answer me???

  • no those all landmarks - they won't be destroyed. Coney will change but it will take a while.

  • are they going to destroy the cyclone, and the big wheel?????

  • fuck coney island

  • i love coney island, its not like disney!!

  • OMG did they destroied the wonder wheel that I saw in the movie "warriors"?

  • i dont think so

  • Very nicely done, the music and sounds really added a dramatic feel to the whole thing. Made me wanna go out there and stop those machines from tearing down anything else. Historic things mean nothing when money is involved.

  • that place is fun. they shoulndt take it down. the only thing that sucked was that u had to pay for EVERYTHING. u have to pay for the rides the foods antd the other stuff except for admission. you even had to pay for the bathroom XD

  • I don't know why so many people are so upset about this. That place was an absolute shithole. Not worthy of bareing the ledengary Coney Island name. I NEEDS to be torn down, and rebuilt. It's all for the better.

  • u did not live there so u cant talk

  • I was just there yesterday and talked to some people. The only rides that are garunteed to stay are the wonder Wheel, the cyclone, and the PArachute Jump.

  • why? why? man coney was the best alot of nalgas translation alot of ass man those were the good days got b.j ,fuck in the restroom, had more girls than g-unit & b2k put together man i miss dose days

  • historie ruind

  • im so sad!!!!:(

i never got a chance to get on the cyclone...

i thought dat roller coasters was cool..

everyone liked coney island i dont know y their goin 2 destroy it....:(

  • the sounds in the counstruction zone sound like that Jurrasic Park ride in Florida

  • Thank you for the compliment. ALL the sounds were taken from other elements that were reproduced at other locations. None of the sounds came from the actual environment.

There were a total of more than 65 sounds effects layered on five different tracks aside from the two music tracks.

  • I wonder how long it will be before the bulldozers work their way over to the rest of Coney island...

  • LMAO!!

  • AWESOME!

  • Will Nathan's Be staying?

  • yes

  • i hope so cuz i love there cheese fries!

    lolz

  • ya they didnt i went on it a month ago

  • does anyone know if they took down the wonder wheel?

  • The wonder wheel is not part of coney island's Astroland. It is part of Denny's park, which is right next to coney island's astroland. The wonder wheel park will be around for another few years.

  • the wonder wheel is stayin and the cyclone the rest is doomed

  • This is a great video. This is another example of how corporate greed takes precedence over historical value and sentimentality. Soon this country will be nothing but high rise condos, malls, and office complexes. This is very sad!

  • go to six flags darlin

  • Coney Island was the best place on earth...it was not the rides that made Coney it was the people. Without the White American people that once lived and enjoyed CI it is nothing and will never come back. :(

  • A petition went around on the last Sunday, to get another year of the park open.

I would reach out to the owner Carol Hill Albert (if you google her, you can find her email address). Or look up SKYRIDE, INC., 1000 Surf Avenue, Brooklyn, NY for their phone number. Make some noise if you want the park to stay as much as I do!!

  • I last heard that they will be open for one more 2008/summer.

  • i am going out to coney island for the film festival next week

i am afraid of what i will

    (or won't) find there

  • i never went on the cyclone and there gonna close it down. WTF!

  • Don't worry! The Cyclone will not be closing - only for the season. The Cyclone is owned by the city and will continue to be operated by the Alberts who ran and hopefully will still be running Astroland for next season of 2008

  • that place should have been protected for its historical importance. Coney Island should have been restored and modernised to keep it open for future generations. Its all very sad. People may need places to live, but they also need places to enjoy themselves and take their kids for a day out.

  • I was at Astroland on the last day Sunday. It was indeed sad.

  • I was there that last Sunday as well. I use to work in Astroland in the summers of 1984 - 1986, so it has become a huge part of my life. I actually went to see the manager who I worked for (still worked there after all these years) and he didn't seem to be taking it too well, since it's all he's ever done for work was manage the concessions.

I agree with airons1972 - it should have had protections from distruction. Why couldn't they build their money-making crappy ideas further down?

  • It's sad, glad i visted Coney before all this happen, great video, thanks :-)

  • I can´t believe what i´m seeing. That makes me cry.I think New york is loosing its soul, and i will never get real my dream of visit Coney island and ride the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone.

  • u have the same dreams like me :'( im so sad to see this i thought that some day i will be mounted on the wonder wheel now i know it will never happn :(

  • so are they tearing the whole thing down den, even the cyclone? that place was well worth an hour subway trip from new york city wen i was over dere.. great video btw...

  • sad.....hope they (the developers) all get rabies!!!

  • I live near southport where plesureland yous to be and we lost that too its said just couse somet isent doing well it can be saved just add new rides and keep are relly old rides couse when its gone we cant get it bk. bevelops just dont care there just blinded with gread

  • The rich also BUILT Coney Island.

  • The Beast from 30,000 fathoms...well done. I know that CI site well! Sorry to see it go...fond memories as a kid!

  • omg ma mom said dat dey need more white ppll back 2 make it like da 50s again n all that!

  • With the way you write with such poor english, I would not be putting any non whites down.

  • The rich are destroying NYC.

  • Sorry to say it, y'all, but Coney (as well as all of New York's waterfront) needs a serious makeover/fixing. I'm one of those Brooklyn natives who wished for a theme park (six flags or disney, but keep the Cyclone). That Astroland concept is sooooo dated, it's not funny! I don't know if I agree with the condo concept, though!

  • You know I agree with you. Just because this video shows 'destruction' doesn't mean I don't want change. I agree that today's Coney is not thriving enough. I also wish for a theme park - but an open one - not gated. Coney is broken and needs fixing - so it can thrive. I want to make sure the area stays a place for amusements.

  • Yeah you're right but this guy has been knowed to buy places and then sell them for a higher price just to make profit then someone always comes in and ruins everything. Coney Island won't be the same anymore. An open theme park would be good. Most of the time I went there I just went to hang out I barely gon the rides one of my favorites is break dance but I see is not there anymore.

  • fuck that mean, i live 8 blocks from coney island and they're tearing that shit down. FUCK THEM fuck thoes fuckers planning to built thoes futuristic shit fuck that bullshit non-sense flooding shit. And if they put fucking condos and shit up, thats history and memmories and they're taking that shit away from us. New born babies dont even get to see the history of coney island. Self-fish motherfuckers hope that die and burn in fucking hell.

  • there gonna make it like time square and price people out to the streets.its a shame the charm of coney island was its grittiness. the rich are killing new york

  • right on brother

  • They should go on strike. They should not destroy Coney Island!!!!!! Im so mad!!!

  • because of these dirty cock sucker's that live there now they made coney island bad i hope when they re build it everything is more money and all the dirty rat basterds have to find someplace else to live and take down all of the shit apartment buildings and bring more italians back

  • there just re-building it thats all

  • i am going to miss coney island. my friend's and i come all the way from brentwood long island just to enjoy our selve's there. it may be dirty and it need's too be cleaned , but doesnt need to be torn down !!! SAVE CONEY iSLAND !!! and what's going to happen to the cyclone , wonderwheel , nathans and the beach ??

  • They're getting rid of the beach. And paving over the ocean.

  • great job . . .

  • To tell you the truth, they do need a improvement in Coney Island but removing Astro Land is not the key. They need to first of all clean up the pollution and trash on the beaches. They should rebuild all the buildings and organize cleaning groups that volunteer.

However sad to say that it is too late, pictures is all i have of the big CI

  • Omar! Excellent Work! It is unfortunate about CI. Lots of childhood memories about this place.

  • In the 30's and 40's each Sunday one million immigrants were able to get away from their tiny apartments to bath, get the sun, eat, drink and enjoy this wonderland. It was once called "Dreamland" Now it's up to the NEW immigrants, if they want to have a place that will be there own.

  • I agree. Unfortunately, people today are not the activists we had before. People try a little but don't try hard enough. Therefore we are at the mercy of those in power: be it big developers or the government.

  • Beautifull video; well edited, but maybe a bit to long...

  • I used to go last summer, because it was easy to get to from my apartment in Manhattan by subway. My impression of the place was that it was dirty, vandalized and run-down. A far cry from the CI of my mother's youth in the 30's and 40's. Whats going to happen to the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone? Are they getting torn down too?

  • This is an amazing video--brought me to the verge of hysterical tears. Asked myself why, and realized it was because I was watching something I love being destroyed.

Gotta say though, the true spirit of Coney always makes it through no matter what, so I always have hope.

  • Its time for Coney to make a majer comback

  • I watched this video despite the warning, and I'm in tears right now. I can't believe what has happened to Coney. I almost feel like going down there and screaming at all the construction workers for taking away our amusement land. And I'm sure they laugh as they do it while they patronize Nathan's.

  • Don't worry too much. Fortunately it has not ALL been destroyed. Only a few amusements have been cleared up. Our hope is to keep what little is left of the amusements as just that and still have the right kind of development.

  • nice video. i too live in coney and will miss it very much. originally we were from bed stuy--moved the island back in '75--best thing we did at the time. the parks the sand, nathans hot dogs, the warriors. damn!

  • I live in coney, not even 2 blocks away from the arcades. It hurt me so bad being there watching them take those rides down, and knowing fate will soon follow for astroland. If only i had a camera i can post just like you guys

  • i love coney island as much as the next person. Being from Brooklyn, i've been there plenty of times. But it is time for change. For those of you who haven't been there to see how dirty it has become, it's time to clean it up. There's a new face in Brooklyn and it's gonna be better.

  • Well made video, Coney will be missed.

  • i hate those annoying booth people

  • Dear God I really hope this doesn't happen to Coney,

I'm not a native New Yorker but I always love going to Coney Island I can't imagine New York without it.

  • interesting video watched it all the way through nice!
